Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 72: Chapter 72: Working Together

Liu Hai’s health isn’t great, but it’s not any major illness; he just tends to get sick quite frequently. If he’s not careful, he might fall ill.

In the past, Liu Hai often took herbal medicine as meals; if he wasn’t catching a cold, he was coughing or having a fever. Even when they were fleeing, they always carried a medicine pot with them.

This is also why, even with a family of four working and prioritizing a small child, their household still remained tight financially.

That’s why when Liu Yang caught his first prey and sold it for money, he spent it on buying candy and meat for his son.

When they first settled down in Fu’an Village, they still had some money on hand. After all, not many were like the Jiang family, who got separated from their elders.

Everyone knew that all the family’s belongings were with the elders of the family; as long as they stayed with the elders, they would have something to eat.

The situation with Jiang Hu’s family, getting separated with their kin, was quite an exception.

Getting back to the point, when they first settled in Fu’an Village, they often went to town to fetch medicine, but at that time there was no income, only expenses, making the entire family anxious and stressed.

Later on, as Liu Yang got closer to Jiang Hu and frequently caught prey, the situation at home improved a bit.

Still, Liu Hai would get sick no matter what, until one day Liu Yang suddenly told his son to play with the Jiang family’s eldest child.

Previously, it didn’t seem significant, even Liu Shu thought his own son was making a fuss over nothing, that there was no point in sucking up to others since they weren’t even kin, and weren’t favored by the village. If bullied, no one would help.

But now, the more Liu Shu thought about it, the more unusual this seemed.

”Old woman, think carefully, hasn’t Xiao Hai barely been sick ever since he started visiting the Jiang family?”

Wang Xiang, being Liu Hai’s mother, was the most familiar with her son’s health condition. When she heard her father-in-law asking her mother-in-law, she immediately chimed in.

”Dad, now that you mention it, it’s been almost three months since Xiao Hai last needed medicine.”

After she said that, even she found it unbelievable and showed a surprised expression.

”Could it really be related to that Little Lucky Star?”

Could it be? Wasn’t it just the talk of Fu Xing? Could it really be that effective?

Liu Yang’s mother was using the hand windmill, her hands couldn’t stop as she needed to fan out the debris from the corn.

Although Liu Yang loved to chat, acting as the village’s all-knowing, his mother wasn’t a gossip. Hearing her husband and daughter-in-law’s conversation, she remained remarkably calm.

”Why wouldn’t the Lucky Star be good? With a Little Lucky Star in the village, everyone’s lives have improved, even Xiao Hai, who’s been visiting the Lucky Star’s house regularly, is healthier; this is a good thing.”

”And daughter-in-law, Liu Yang and Jiang Hu have a good relationship, appreciate the Little Lucky Star, but don’t go around talking about it. Someone who doesn’t understand might think you’re talking about your husband and Jiang Hu’s wife.”

Wang Xiang hurriedly defended herself: ”I’m not talking about the second mother.”

When she wasn’t busy, she often found time to talk to the second mother since her sewing skills were good, and she learned some techniques from her.

Besides, every time her husband sought out Jiang Hu, she was aware of it.

Liu Yang’s mother looked at Wang Xiang: ”We know you didn’t say anything, but if others hear it, who knows what they’ll spread.”

Wang Xiang was instantly disgruntled, wanting to rebut something, but hesitant, given it was her mother-in-law she was confronting.

Liu Yang’s mother didn’t continue the topic, only saying, ”As a woman, mind your own business. Liu Yang may talk a lot, but he knows where he stands, don’t make trouble for him.”

After saying that, she continued her work.

As for whether the Little Lucky Star was real or not, everyone had their own opinion and didn’t need any further declaration.

Wang Xiang, after being gently scolded by her mother-in-law, did not dare to say more and continued her work.

For just a moment, she suddenly felt that the life of the second mother and Jiang Hu’s family seemed quite nice, doing whatever they wanted without anyone overshadowing them.

But soon, this thought was dismissed. While such a life was free, it also came with pressure. If Jiang’s family had the grandparents’ support, wouldn’t raising four kids be much easier?

Then Wang Xiang went back to working, and the sorghum could also be harvested. After sorting out the corn inside the house today, they could start collecting the sorghum tomorrow.

The recent weather had been very sunny, with five or six consecutive days of sunshine, but farmers knew it couldn’t last forever. After a sunny spell in summer, heavy rains would inevitably follow.

So everyone was anxious, wanting to harvest all the grain before the rains came.

The situation with Liu Yang’s family was unknown to Jiang Hu.

Though it was just the two adults, their pace of work wasn’t slow at all. In these past few days, while drying corn, the couple had already taken the opportunity to collect all the cornstalks.

All the cornstalks were piled up under the eaves nearby, left to dry for a few days, then could be used as firewood, or bedding for the cows in winter.

All the corn was packed into sacks and moved to the empty room. Jiang Hu had already procured bamboo beforehand, layering it thick on the floor and the walls to prevent the grain from getting damp during rainy days.

After finishing all this, it was still early, so Jiang Hu and the second mother packed their things and took the children to the fields.

The sorghum could still grow for a couple more days, but looking around, many had already started harvesting. Having worked on the farm for most of their lives, they knew when to wait and when not to.

The sorghum tassels in Jiang’s family grew so full that they bent over; it was a delightful sight.

”Jiang Hu, your sorghum looks terrific, I wonder if your corn is just as good.”

The sorghum had visible, full tassels, unlike corn, which was wrapped in leaves and couldn’t be seen clearly.

Jiang Hu kept moving, responding casually: ”This year was lucky, the corn’s not bad either.”

”That makes sense, since you have a Little Lucky Star in the family, how could luck not be on your side,” that person said with envy.

Jiang Hu just smiled and then took his family away; they were busy and had no time for small talk.

Jiang Hu’s second wife was tall enough to stretch her arms and cut down the sorghum tassels, but not the eldest child or second daughter.

Jiang Hu handed a machete to the eldest child and scissors to the second daughter.

”Who knows when this weather will turn to rain, let’s get the sorghum harvested early. Eldest, you cut the sorghum stalks directly and lay them down, second daughter, cut them with the scissors, can you do it?”

The eldest child pounded his chest: ”Don’t worry, Dad, these sorghum stalks aren’t as thick as corn stalks; of course, I can do it.”

The second daughter, holding her mother’s fabric scissors, happily declared, ”I can do it too, Daddy, don’t worry.”

Jiang Hu patted their heads: ”Then your parents will go to work, take your time, no rush.”

On the other hand, the second mother was also instructing Xiaomi and Tie Dan, mainly Xiaomi, Tie Dan was just tagging along.

This little guy, seeing his mother only speak with his sister and not with him, would certainly get jealous!
