Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 71: Chapter 71: Liu Yang’s Family

At the same time, while the Jiang family was bustling, other families weren’t idle either.

Especially the Liu Yang family. Liu Yang’s parents only have this one son. The daughter was married off, and they got separated during the escape.

Besides Liu Hai, who is not even five, the four adults in the family are great workers. This time, they opened up about ten acres of land combining sorghum and corn fields.

This land opening has its pros and cons. The downside is naturally the low yield of barren land. However, the advantage is obvious; there’s no need to spend money buying it. The vacant land they clear themselves can be reported to the village chief, and they can get a deed. In the future, it will be theirs.

But this kind of good thing is only for the first year. After this year, even if it’s barren land, you still have to buy it, albeit at a cheaper price.

So this year, as long as the household has labor, they’re desperately trying to get more land so that in the future, when their sons and grandsons establish themselves, they can share more.

The Liu Yang family is large, and they received a lot of sorghum seeds from the court. Later, by selling the hunted prey, they bought many corn seeds, so they have a fair bit of farmland. Even though the fertility of barren land is poor and the yield is a bit low, adding it all up is still significant.

But this is all not important. What’s important is Liu Yang has made a great discovery!

Liu Yang, carefully peeling the kernels from those super large corns, roughly about a pound or so, packed them into a small bag, and then directly hung it on the beam with a rope.

This way, it can be moisture-proof and also prevent rats from eating it.

Besides these, there is another small bag, about ten pounds or so, stored in the same way.

And these ten or so pounds were from corn watered with manure water exchanged from the Jiang family, which grew plumper and better than other corns. These are to be kept aside for planting next year.

Previously, Jiang Hu also shared half a bucket of manure water, which he used to water the sorghum a bit. Later, with more exchanged manure water from the Jiang family, he watered it again. Those are to be kept for seeds too.

”Dear, is it necessary to be so cautious? At worst, can’t we just buy some corn seeds from the Jiang family next year?”

Wang Xiang, holding the ladder for Liu Yang beside him, seemed dismissive of Liu Yang’s actions.

Liu Yang finished hanging the corn and climbed down, pursing his lips, ”What do you know, woman? Do you really think everything can be bought? What if they are unwilling to sell it next year?”

Wang Xiang pursed her lips, ”So what if they don’t sell? It’s not a big deal.”

Liu Yang rolled his eyes, ”Do you remember where these corns grew from?”

Liu Yang was pointing precisely at that small bag.

Wang Xiang: ”Of course, I remember. We found them in the sorghum field and moved them out.”

Wang Xiang knew what Liu Yang was going to say and interrupted him before he could speak.

”But so what? That sorghum field used to be barren too. Who knows what was planted before? It might have been seeds left in the ground from before that happened to sprout this year.”

”Besides, it might be that there were a few corn seeds accidentally mixed in the sorghum seeds distributed by the court. You’re making a fuss over nothing, insisting it’s brought by Little Lucky Star.”

Thinking about her husband, caring so much about someone else’s daughter, Wang Xiang felt a bit uncomfortable in her heart.

Even though she knows her husband doesn’t have thoughts about others’ wives, whenever Jiang Hu isn’t home, her husband wouldn’t visit them.

But he was always concerned about someone else’s daughter, even though she wasn’t even a year old, and Wang Xiang just didn’t feel happy about it, even frequently scolding their own son, while being eager to please someone else’s child.

If he wanted to curry favor himself, that’s fine, but why did he have to make the family treat that little girl well, can’t show a dark face or be cold? This preferential treatment made Wang Xiang understandably unhappy.

Liu Yang gave his wife a look, ”What do you know? Just needlessly jealous. Think carefully, in our family so many sorghum fields, is it only one field that grows corn?”

Wang Xiang pursed her lips, ”So what? Do you expect all the sorghum fields to grow corn?”

Liu Yang: ”Then think again, isn’t that field near the Jiang family?”

Wang Xiang was stunned, frowning slightly, ”What do you mean? Are you suggesting this is because of Little Lucky Star again?”

Before Liu Yang could nod, Wang Xiang shook her head, ”How could it be possible? Even if she is a blessed reincarnation, can she magically make crops grow out of the ground?”

Liu Yang: ”Certainly she can’t magically make crops grow, but what if it’s their fortune making this corn grow better?”

After farming for so many years, in the same crop, there’s occasionally one that grows exceptionally well. This situation isn’t unheard of, but just relatively rare.

So, with suddenly so many growing well, Liu Yang’s first reaction was surely the good fortune brought by Little Lucky Star! That’s why so much corn grew so well and big!

Wang Xiang still didn’t believe it and scoffed at Liu Yang’s explanation.

However, Liu Yang confidently remarked, ”You may not believe it, but I saw Brother Jiang also dug up more than ten corn stalks from his sorghum field, and it’s not just him, others did too.”

Saying this, Liu Yang frowned slightly, ”I was curious, so I kept watching. Those I saw seemed to be near Brother Jiang’s place or spots where they would pass by.”

Wang Xiang was shocked, ”Really? Is it really that mystical?”

She thought the manure from the Jiang family was already impressive; now good fortune, too?

Liu Yang slapped his thigh, ”I have to find out and see if that’s the case!”

Speaking of which, he hastily climbed down the ladder, indifferent to the hot weather outside, eager to rush out.

Wang Xiang chased a few steps, ”Hey, where are you going?”

”You just secure the grains at home, don’t bother with me.” Liu Yang marched off without turning his head.

Liu Yang’s father, Liu Shu, was with his wife drying the corns in the sun. With the good sunlight these days, they would all be dried in a few days, ready to be stored, waiting for the Government Official to collect the tax, and then they could eat the corn they planted themselves this year.

Seeing his son running in a hurry, Liu Shu asked his daughter-in-law, ”What’s up with him? Why is he suddenly running?”

But knowing his son’s habit of acting impetuously, Liu Shu was used to it and continued his work without a pause.

Wang Xiang helplessly turned back to continue her work, ”Isn’t it still about Little Lucky Star?”

She retold the words Liu Yang said to her father-in-law and mother-in-law.

After finishing, Wang Xiang added irritably, ”Seriously, even if that Little Lucky Star is really a blessed one descended to earth, does he think she will recognize him as her father? I don’t know why he cares so much.”

After listening, Liu Shu didn’t complain about his son but pondered for a while instead.

”Don’t say, in the past we all treated it as a joke, just kidding around. But haven’t you noticed, our Liu Hai doesn’t seem to get sick as often as he used to?”

He gestured to his wife, ”Wife, you’re the most attentive. Tell me, isn’t that right?”
