My Sister Stole My Mate, And I Let Her

Chapter 541: Chapter 541 AFTER (BONUS Chapter 8)

KIERAN’S POV

I used to think being an Alpha meant standing unshaken through battles, politics, impossible decisions, even death.

Then Sera got pregnant again, and I discovered that none of those things had ever truly tested my composure.

The real test came every morning when she cracked her back before getting out of bed, and I worried whether she’d slept comfortably enough.

It came every time she reached for something on a high shelf before I could get there, every afternoon she insisted she could carry a basket of laundry despite my two perfectly functional arms, and every evening when she disappeared into the garden without telling me, sending me into a mounting panic until I found her peacefully reading beneath the pergola while Daniel practiced his sparring.

She found my concern endlessly amusing.

“Kieran,” she sighed one afternoon after I rearranged the cushions behind her for perhaps the fifth time that day, “I’m pregnant, not made of glass.”

“I know.”

She folded her arms, one eyebrow arching in that familiar way that called bullshit. “Do you?”

I nodded, adding another pillow. “I do.”

“Because you’ve been hovering since breakfast.”

“I have not.”

“You almost had a coronary when I lifted the kettle.”

“It was heavy.”

”It was empty.”

“You shouldn’t be lifting things.”

She stared at me for a long moment before laughing so hard she had to wipe tears from her eyes.

“You are unbelievable.”

“I prefer attentive.”

“Try: suffocating.”

I shrugged. “I can live with that. Don’t know why you’d need oxygen or space when you have me.”

She laughed again, shook her head, and pulled me beside her before resting her head on my shoulder.

“I know why you’re doing this,” she murmured, slipping her hand through mine.

Of course she did.

I rested my cheek against her hair, my gaze drifting toward the gentle curve of her stomach.

”I missed it all the first time.” The words came out as a quiet, painful admission.

She tilted her head back, her eyes filled with gentle understanding.

”Kieran...you know I—”

“I know.”

But her forgiveness didn’t mean the regret hadn’t been stewing inside me since the moment I learned she was carrying our new baby.

When she was pregnant with Daniel, I wasn’t there the way I should have been.

I’d lived in the same house, sat across from her at meals, passed her in the hall, and slept beneath the same roof each night, yet I’d still somehow missed it all.

My attention had been consumed by everything except the woman carrying my child.

“I don’t remember asking if you were sleeping enough,” I admitted, my voice roughening.

“I don’t remember noticing when you were exhausted, rubbing your feet when they ached, or making sure you were eating right.”

I swallowed hard, shame tightening my throat. “I don’t even remember talking to Daniel before he was born.”

The words hung between us, impossible to soften because they deserved their full weight.

Emotion welled inside me as I rested my hand against the curve of Sera’s stomach, feeling our baby shift beneath my palm, and I vowed that neither mother nor baby would ever doubt my presence.

“I’ll spend the rest of my life making up for that.”

Warm fingers slipped beneath my chin, gently lifting my face until I met Sera’s eyes.

“You already are.”

She smiled, that same soft smile that carried more forgiveness than I believed I deserved.

“Every time you fuss over me, every time you calculate my nutrient and caloric intake, every time you ask if the baby’s kicking enough or insist on coming to every appointment...”

She reached up to brush a strand of hair away from my forehead. “...you’re loving me the way I always wanted you to.”

Tears threatened before I could stop them. “I really hate who I was.”

She shook her head gently. “I don’t.”

Confusion must have shown on my face, because she continued before I could speak.

“I hate the choices you made,” she admitted. “I hate what they did to us. But if you erase the man you used to be, you also erase the man who fought so hard to become the one with his arms around me now.”

She placed a tender, sweet kiss on the corner of my lips, and whispered, “And I happen to love him very, very much.”

Nine months passed both impossibly slowly and far too quickly.

One moment we were in the nursery, arguing over color palettes; the next, I was pacing the private maternity floor while doctors and nurses prepared for our baby’s arrival.

Between my position as Alpha and the fact that half the world still viewed my wife as something between a miracle and a myth, privacy was non-negotiable, so I’d had the entire floor cleared for us.

Even so, the silence stretching through the immaculate corridor did nothing to settle my nerves.

“You know,” Ethan said, sounding far too amused for my liking, “for someone who’s faced rogues, corrupt psychics, and the Lord of Darkness himself, you look suspiciously faint.”

I shot him a flat look. “I’d be careful on that high horse if I were you. Unless my memory’s failing me, you weren’t exactly the picture of composure just a couple of months ago.”

His grin faltered just enough to tell me I’d hit my mark.

“I was concerned,” he said with as much dignity as he could muster.

“You broke the doctor’s wrist because he told you to calm down.”

Maya laughed softly from her chair nearby, gently rocking Noah in her arms. ”Yeah, poor Doctor Halstead will definitely need therapy for the rest of his life.”

Their son blinked sleepily at the sound of our voices before deciding the conversation wasn’t interesting enough to interrupt his nap and snuggling deeper into his mother’s arms.

Ethan cleared his throat. “Fine.” He folded his arms with exaggerated resignation. “Maybe I was a little anxious.”

I snorted. “A little.”

Margaret, who had been quietly knitting what I suspected was yet another baby blanket despite having already made enough to last a small village several winters, looked up with an amused smile.

“The two of you worry far too much,” she said. “Everything will be fine. Seraphina has endured far too much to be felled by childbirth.”

“Yeah. Mom’s going to be okay.”

My attention shifted to Daniel, who sat in one of the waiting room chairs with a calmness I seemed incapable of finding.

He was clutching his favorite stuffed wolf—the baby’s first gift, he’d said.

“You don’t look worried,” I observed.

He smiled. “I’m not.”

“How come?”

“Because I had a dream last night.”

My interest piqued. “Yeah? What about?”

He grinned and shook his head. “It’s a secret.”

“A secret?”

“Between me and the baby,” he said matter-of-factly. “But I can tell you one thing.”

“What’s that?”

His smile softened with a certainty that was beyond his years. “She’s a blessing.”

A smile tugged at my lips. We’d never told him the baby’s gender, wanting it to be a surprise, but I wasn’t surprised he somehow knew.

I ruffled his hair. “Yeah, she is.”

Before either of us could say another word, the delivery room doors opened, and a nurse stepped into the corridor with a warm smile.

“Alpha Blackthorne?” she called, and every frazzled emotion I was trying to keep under control surged to the surface in a dizzying rush. ”We’re ready for you—it’s almost time to start pushing.”

Hours later, after more prayers than I’d spoken in the rest of my life combined, the room filled with the most beautiful sound I had ever heard.

Our daughter’s first cry rang out, strong and indignant, and in that single, miraculous instant, every fear that had haunted me for the past nine months dissolved like mist.

The world narrowed to the tiny life the doctor carefully lifted into the light, and all I could do was stare. I’d witnessed countless extraordinary things, from impossible battles to miracles that had changed the fate of our world, but nothing compared to this.

She was impossibly small, with damp blonde curls on her little head and tiny fists curled against her chest, as if she were ready to take on the world from the moment she arrived.

I laughed, only for the sound to break into choked sobs I made no attempt to hide.

She was gently placed into Sera’s waiting arms, and for several long seconds I forgot how to breathe.

My wife looked down at the tiny bundle cradled against her chest with an expression so full of love and wonder it stole what remained of my composure, and I kept looking back and forth between them, unable to decide which miracle overwhelmed me more.

“Sophia,” Sera whispered, her voice barely louder than a breath.

“She’s perfect.” I leaned down to press a lingering kiss against Sera’s forehead. “Thank you.”

She shrugged one shoulder, giving me a small, tired smile. “All in a day’s work.”

I laughed softly as I reached out with a hand that trembled despite every attempt to steady it.

As my fingertip brushed Sophia’s impossibly tiny hand, her delicate fingers curled around mine, and the pressure was so light I barely felt it.

Yet in that fleeting touch, I felt the full weight of a love so profound that it reshaped something inside me forever.

Looking at my wife, at my daughter fussing against her heart, knowing our son was waiting just outside those doors to become the wonderful big brother he’d already dreamed of being, I realized something that would remain true for the rest of my life.

For years I had believed being Alpha was my greatest privilege.

I had been wrong.

Coming home to them—these beautiful, unbelievable miracles—every day would always be the greatest honor I would ever earn.
