Reborn : Space Intelligent Woman

“I heard some instructors talking back then. They were talking about a new batch of people coming over by the boat and they said they did not need to guard them since they could not escape from the island. That was how I knew it was an island.” Elder Mong stated.

“Is there someone who try to escape?” Yu Qi asked.

“Not too many. We were children at that time. Well, the escaped ones were usually teenagers but they did not last longer.” Elder Mong sighed.

“Why?” Yu Qi asked.

“They escaped through the sea. It was not a safe route. They did not have a boat. So, the only chance they had was to swim. They could be out of energy and drowned. Sometimes, sharks were waiting for their meal. Sometimes, the escaped ones were shot by the guards. Either way, we could not escape from the island.” Elder Mong felt horrible when he thought about that.

“I see. It must be hard for you.” Yu Qi could not imagine the desperate feeling that these children had back then.

“I don’t know the exact location of the island. I am sorry.” Elder Mong sighed.

He really wanted to find the location of the island. If the organisation still existed meaning they might still do the same thing to other children.

“It is okay.” Yu Qi said. “Hmm… It is getting late. Let’s go inside.”

“Hmm…” Elder Mong agreed.

…..

Yu Qi walked to Zhao Yongzhung’s ward. Zhao Yongzhung was still conscious. He looked at Yu Qi.

“Hi, Mr Zhao. How are you feeling?” Yu Qi smiled.

“I still can not walk.” Zhao Yongzhung looked away.

Yu Qi pulled a chair and sat beside the bed.

“I just want to ask you a few more questions.” Yu Qi stated.

She wanted more information about Zhao Yongzhung.

“Sure.” Zhao Yongzhung nodded.

“We have been over your medical history but we are at the point where it would be helpful to ask your family members about their medical histories. Any history of autoimmune diseases, like lupus or myasthenia gravis, rheumatoid arthritis, or multiple sclerosis….”

“I just don’t understand. I was preparing for the hike of a lifetime and now I can not walk.” Zhao Yongzhung said emotionally.

Yu Qi did not know what to say right now.

“I might be leaving this hospital in a wheelchair. And I don’t know why.” Zhao Yongzhung continued.

“Mr Zhao, hopefully, we will have answers soon.” Yu Qi tried to make Zhao Yongzhung not give up hope.

Zhao Yongzhung nodded. “Yeah. I hope that too.”

“I am sorry I just have a few more questions.” Yu Qi said.

Then, Yu Qi began to ask Zhao Yongzhung more questions. Zhao Yongzhung answered the question honestly. The things he knew and the things that he did not know, he told Yu Qi everything.

“Have you called your family about this?” Yu Qi asked after finishing the series of questions.

“Hmm… They are not here but they plan to come here tomorrow.” Zhao Yongzhung answered.

“Great. I also would like to meet your parent and ask them some questions regarding your family medical history as I tell you earlier.” Yu Qi said.

“I will inform my parent about that.” Zhao Yongzhung nodded.

Yu Qi left the ward. She kept walking while sighing.

“Lil Sister, you seem to have trouble with something.”

Yu Qi heard the voice and looked over. It was her big brother, Tang Han Lee.

“Big Brother Han Lee, you are on the night shift as well?” Yu Qi asked.

“Yeah. I am. Have you eaten dinner?” Tang Han Lee asked.

“Not yet.” Yu Qi shook her head.

“Care to join me?” Tang Han Lee asked.

“My pleasure.” Yu Qi nodded.

So, both of them walked to the cafe on the third floor. They ordered some food and sat at the empty table. Not many people were here.

“What happens? Problem with the patient?” Tang Han Lee asked.

Indeed, Yu Qi had problems with her patients. Well, one was a secret. She could not tell Tang Han Lee about that. But another one was okay.

“Yeah, I had someone came to the emergency today. The paramedics told me that they picked up the man from the nearby hotel. He was paralysed from his waist to the down. We check everything but still could not find out anything about that.” Yu Qi sighed.

“Oh, I heard about that one. It is quite a difficult case.” Tang Han Lee nodded.

“I have to find out the cause of his unable to walk.” Yu Qi was very determined.

“Well, don’t forget, the best way to get a definitive answer is to go back to one of the building blocks of medicine, the scientific method. You can apply it to almost any question.” Tang Han Lee gave some advice.

Yu Qi thought about that. Tang Han Lee smiled. He knew that his little sister would definitely be going to find the answer soon.

“Thank you, Big Brother Han Lee.” Yu Qi smiled. “Oh, by the way, how is Na An? Is she okay?”

Yu Qi laughed. It seemed Tang Han Lee was still shy about it. So cute, she thought.

“She is doing fine. She will be going to finish her residency.” Tang Han Lee said.

“Oh, finish already? So fast.” Yu Qi was surprised.

“Not fast as you.” Tang Han Lee replied.
