Primordial Heir: Nine Stars

In the living room of a quiet mansion, Nero and Khione stood wrapped in each other’s arms.

The warmth of the fire painted their skin gold. Outside, the festival lights flickered through the windows, distant and soft. But inside, there was only them. Only the slow rhythm of their breathing, the press of her cheek against his chest, the curl of his fingers along her spine.

He pulled back just enough to see her face. Her eyes, usually cool as winter lakes, had melted into something deeper. A gentle flush colored her cheeks. She was not the Ice Queen here. She was simply Khione.

He leaned in.

His lips brushed hers—soft, tentative, a question rather than an answer. A spark passed between them, small but warm, like the first ember of a fire. She did not pull away. Instead, her hand slid up his chest, resting over his heart.

They parted, just a breath apart. Her eyes searched his, and he saw no fear, no hesitation. Only a quiet invitation.

He cupped her face, his thumb tracing the line of her jaw. Her skin was cool, but beneath it, he felt the heat of her slowing pulse. She smiled—a rare, unguarded smile that made his chest ache.

”I love you,” he said, the words soft as a secret.

Her smile widened. ”I know.”

Then she kissed him.

This time it was deeper, slower, a conversation without words. Her fingers threaded through his hair. His arms tightened around her waist. The world beyond the windows faded—the festival, the academy, the storm waiting on the horizon. There was only this. Only her. Only the quiet, perfect moment of two hearts finding their rhythm.

When they finally parted, she rested her forehead against his. Her breath was warm on his lips.

”Again,” she whispered.

And he did.

After the kiss, they stood still, foreheads pressed together, breathing the same warm air. Nero’s hand found hers, fingers interlacing. He did not speak. He simply led her to the center of the room, where the firelight cast their shadows long and soft against the wall.

He pulled out his phone, scrolled through the playlist, and tapped a song. The melody began, slow and sweet, a piano weaving into a gentle guitar. It was a song they had discovered together, late one night in his dorm, neither of them willing to sleep. They had listened to it on repeat until the words etched themselves into their memory.

I found a love for me...

Nero turned to Khione and extended his hand. She placed hers in his, and he drew her close. One hand rested on her waist, the other held her fingers against his chest. She laid her head on his shoulder, her white hair spilling across his arm.

Darling, just dive right in and follow my lead...

They swayed. No steps, no technique. Just the slow, natural rhythm of two bodies moving as one. The fire crackled. The music playing softly. The world outside the windows faded to nothing.

Well, I found a girl, beautiful and sweet...

Khione lifted her head and looked at him. Her eyes were soft, like ice melting away. He saw an illusion, he saw in them the girl she had been before the world made her hard—the girl who laughed in the garden, who painted pictures of waterfalls, who believed in love she came to appreciate because of him.

I never knew you were the someone waiting for me...

He pulled her closer, and she let him. Her arms wrapped around his neck, her cheek pressed against his. He closed his eyes and breathed in the scent of her—cold flowers and clean water and something that was just her.

’Cause we were just kids when we fell in love...

They turned slowly in a circle, the firelight dancing around them. The lyrics wrapped around them like a second skin, each word a promise.

Not knowing what it was...

Khione whispered the next line against his ear, her voice barely audible. ”I will not give you up this time.”

But darling, just kiss me slow, your heart is all I own...

Nero turned his head and kissed her temple, her cheek, the corner of her mouth. She smiled, and the smile was brighter than the fire.

And in your eyes, you’re holding mine...

The song built toward its chorus, the drums joining the piano, the guitar lifting. Nero spun her gently, and she laughed—a soft, surprised sound he had heard only a handful of times. He caught her and pulled her back, and she landed against his chest, breathless.

Baby, I’m dancing in the dark, with you between my arms...

She reached up and touched his face, her cool fingers tracing his jaw, his lips, the bridge of his nose. He closed his eyes and let her explore, let her memorize him the way he had memorized her.

Barefoot on the grass, listening to our favorite song...

They danced without speaking, without thinking. The music filled the room, and they filled each other. The verse carried them, the chorus lifted them, and the bridge held them in a suspended moment of perfect peace.

I’m giving you all my love, so don’t ever let me down...

The song began to fade, the piano notes softening, the guitar strumming its last. Nero and Khione slowed their dance, their movements growing still. The final chord hung in the air, then dissolved into silence.

They stood in the center of the room, wrapped in each other, the fire dying to embers. Outside, the festival lights had dimmed. The night was deep and quiet.

Nero kissed her forehead. ”I love you,” he whispered.

Khione closed her eyes. ”I love you too.”

They did not move. They simply held each other, two hearts beating in the dark, the song still echoing in their memory. The night was young. They had hours before dawn.

And they intended to use every one of them.

Outside, Elreth who had been busy recently was now back, she appeared more mature. Azalea appeared as well, both friend exchanged a look before smiling, a smile filled with competition and like snake ready to pounce on its prey, they moved.
