Primordial Heir: Nine Stars

Meanwhile, in the quiet dormitory wing reserved for special guests, Khione sat in her room, her posture unnaturally still. The message from Nero had been brief, but it had carried a weight she could feel through the screen. Meeting with the Student Council president. Elysia Raizen. Her fingers had tightened on the communicator as she typed her response, forcing herself to project calm. I know you will handle it. I believe in you.

Now, with the message sent, the silence in her room felt heavy. A cold, sharp worry, a feeling she rarely allowed herself, gnawed at the edges of her focus. She knew of Elysia Raizen by reputation only—a political shark with the power of a storm goddess, the undisputed heir to one of the most ruthless families on the continent. And she was Nero’s half-sister. It was a family matter, a clan matter, and Khione, for all her own power and lineage, was on the outside.

She hated it.

The helplessness didn’t sit in her heart; it crystallized, turning into a cold, hard resolve. She couldn’t intervene in their conversation. But she could be ready for what came after. If that woman thought she could pressure him, manipulate him, or worse…

Khione stood, the temperature in the room dropping several degrees. She didn’t change into training gear. She walked to the center of the room, her breath pluming in the suddenly frigid air. She closed her eyes, not to meditate, but to visualize. In her mind’s eye, she wasn’t in a dormitory. She was on a frozen plain, facing a silhouette wreathed in crackling purple lightning. Not a monster. A person. An enemy.

Her training began, but it was unlike her session in the gravity forge. This was a silent, internal, and utterly vicious act. She didn’t summon golems. She rehearsed spells in the theater of her mind, each one crafted for a single, brutal purpose: to kill another human mage of the highest caliber.

Step one: Neutralize the advantage.

Lightning was fast. It needed to be contained before it could be unleashed.

In her mind, she saw Elysia raise a hand. Khione’s own mental avatar reacted. Not with a wall, but with a ”Fog of Frozen Silence.” A mist that didn’t just obscure, but deadened kinetic energy and electrical conduction, turning the air itself into a non-conductive blanket to smother lightning at its source.

Step two: Control the space.

A close-range fighter would try to close the gap. A spear user would try to maintain it.

Her mental self cast ”Glacial Maze.” The ground erupted not in simple spikes, but in a forest of interlocking, razor-sharp ice pillars, creating a labyrinth that would frustrate any charge and channel an opponent’s movement into predictable, deadly lanes.

Step three: The decisive strike.

Not an area-of-effect blast. Not a spectacle. A single, perfect, unforgiving point of cold.

She envisioned the moment—the opponent, frustrated, cornered by her ice, unleashing a desperate, powerful attack. And in that split second of commitment, Khione would release the spell she had been weaving from the start: ”Absolute Zero: Singularity.” Not a wave, but a single, needle-thin lance of entropy that would seek the core of the enemy’s power, their prana center, and seek to freeze it solid.

Over and over, she ran the scenarios. Countering a lightning whip. Evaporating a heated blade with a localized blizzard. Using a mirror of ice to reflect a blinding flash. She pushed past the spells she had used against Nero, into darker, more final territory. Spells that didn’t just defeat, but ended. Spells the Undine clan kept in sealed tomes, meant for wars between giants.

She didn’t move from the spot for an hour, her face a mask of glacial concentration. When she finally opened her eyes, the room was covered in a delicate, fractal frost that crept up the walls and across the ceiling. Her prana was low, but her will was honed to a razor’s edge.

The worry was still there, a cold stone in her stomach. But it was now encased in layers of lethal certainty. She could not fight his family battles for him. But if they stepped out of the arena of politics and into the realm of direct threat, she would be ready. Not as a supportive girlfriend, but as the heir of the Undine, as a mage who had faced hell-difficulty simulations and won, and as someone who understood, in her very bones, that some things were worth turning the world to ice to protect.

She glanced at her phone. No new message. The waiting was its own kind of battle. So, she sat again, not to train, but to watch the door, her small wand resting across her knees, the room around her holding its breath in a permanent, frozen winter.

The confident mask Nero had worn in the pavilion fell away the moment he was out of Elysia’s sight. He didn’t slump, but his stride became brisk, purposeful, putting distance between himself and the chilling aftermath of that confrontation. Only when he was deep within the anonymous maze of the academy’s central corridors did he allow himself to lean against a cool stone wall, letting out a long, shaky breath.

His back was damp with sweat, the fine training gear clinging unpleasantly to his skin. The bravado, the absolute confidence he’d projected—it had been real, but it was also a shield. A necessary performance.

The reason he’d dared to utter those words, to declare war on his own clan, wasn’t just stubborn pride. It was a calculated risk based on a single, crucial guarantee: time.

In the academy, they couldn’t touch him. Not directly. Not without violating the most sacred rules of Glory Academy and making an enemy of every other major clan invested in its neutrality. The curriculum was two years. Two years of relative sanctuary. The headmaster, during their private discussion, hadn’t offered warm mentorship. He’d offered a cold, political deal: You are an interesting variable. The academy will uphold its protection for its cadets. In return, you will not bring your war into my halls. You have two years to grow. Do not waste them.

That was the foundation of everything. Two years. A ticking clock.

The pressure he felt now wasn’t just from Elysia’s lightning; it was the weight of that clock. Every second mattered. He couldn’t just train. He had to evolve. The final answer, the only answer that ever mattered in the end, was strength. Raw, undeniable power. If he were strong enough, no clan could pressure him. No sister could look down on him. No shadow could force him to kneel.

But the academy wasn’t a fortress. In a couple of days, he and the other first-year cadets would be sent beyond the gates on their first real mission. The protective aura of the academy would stretch thin out there, in the wilds or border towns. It was the perfect place for an ”accident,” for a band of ”rogue mercenaries” who knew exactly who to target. His enemies wouldn’t wait two years.

This is where the others come in, he thought, pushing off the wall and beginning to walk again, his mind racing. The Leclairs, the Undines. Their support wasn’t just political backing in some far-off council. It was a promise of eyes and ears, of resources, of subtle shields. If a Raizen assassination squad moved against him in the field, it might just ”coincidentally” run into a Leclair patrol, or find its path blocked by unseasonal, impassable ice. They couldn’t protect him all the time—their influence had limits, and they wouldn’t risk open war for him yet—but they could mitigate the risk. They could buy him the seconds, the minutes, he needed to survive.

But relying on them was a stopgap. A temporary buffer. The core truth was a terrifying one: there was still an ocean of risk. He was a Red Knight walking into a world where Purples and worse would be gunning for him. He had unique laws, a mysterious tattoo, and eyes that could unravel laws… and he couldn’t afford to use his greatest trump cards without potentially making himself an even bigger target.

He had to grow. Not just steadily. Quickly. Exponentially. He had to push his body, his laws, his very soul to the breaking point every single day. The training with Khione, the spars with Balrog—they were just the beginning. He needed to find faster ways. He needed to understand the depth of his first law, the one tied to those ominous red eyes. He needed to master the synergy between Fire and Lightning, not just use them separately. He needed to turn his theoretical potential into battlefield reality before the battlefield claimed him.

The walk back to his room felt longer than before. The grandeur of the academy now seemed like a gilded cage, and the world outside its gates a vast, dangerous hunting ground. But within that danger was also his only chance. Missions meant real combat, real stakes, real opportunities to break through limits under pressure.

He reached his door, the silence of the empty hallway pressing in on him. The fear was there, a cold knot in his gut. But beneath it, buried deeper, was something else: a fierce, burning focus. The pressure wasn’t just crushing him; it was forging him. Two years. One mission at a time. One breakthrough at a time.

He had declared his war. Now, he had to build his army. And for now, that army was a force of one. He stepped inside and closed the door, the quiet click sounding like the first step on a very long, very dangerous road.
