Inheritance of Two Trillion

Chapter 617: Chapter 617: The Moonlight Remains, The People Remain_1

Bai Xiaosheng greeted Lin Weiwei and quietly left his seat. He made his way out of the banquet hall through a side door and into an unoccupied private room before answering the call.

The number was unfamiliar, but he knew who was calling.

Because the moment he saw the number, Red Lotus reminded him.

The call was from the Greater China Region Affairs Department!

”Hello, is this Mr. Bai Xiaosheng, Zhongjing Media General Manager?” the person on the other end asked.

”Yes, it’s me,” Bai Xiaosheng replied.

”This is the Zhenbei Group’s Greater China Region Affairs Department. You have been nominated for the selection of the provincial industrial leader position. This is a phone notification, and the official notification and related documents have been sent to your personal email. Please check,” they continued.

”Alright, I’ve got it, thank you,” Bai Xiaosheng said.

The notification call was brief, but it signified the beginning of a new competition, officially commencing!

Clutching the phone, Bai Xiaosheng was exhilarated.

The much-anticipated promotion was finally on its way!

Bai Xiaosheng steadied his emotions in the private room before he went out.

As he was about to return to the banquet hall, he heard someone calling from behind, ”Bai... Xiaosheng.”

The voice was soft, carrying a mix of nervousness, conflict, and embarrassment.

Bai Xiaosheng turned around in surprise, spotting a woman standing not far away—Yang Qian’er.

Yang Qian’er had a peculiar expression, seemingly gathering courage to speak to him, a far cry from her usual forthright demeanor.

Bai Xiaosheng was curious and smiled at her, ”Everyone’s inside; why are you out here?”

”I saw you leaving, so I followed. I have a few words I’d like to discuss with you,” Yang Qian’er’s demeanor regained some composure, not as awkward as before.

Bai Xiaosheng was puzzled but nodded with a smile.

Eventually, the two settled in a corner of the hall, where there were sofas, a table for two, and large floor-to-ceiling windows.

But Yang Qian’er didn’t take a seat and instead stood by the window, gazing out.

Outside, the lights were still resplendent.

Bai Xiaosheng stood beside her, intending to ask what she wanted to talk about.

Yang Qian’er, however, spoke first.

”I like you.”

A simple sentence, like a thunderclap, fell from the heavens and struck Bai Xiaosheng, leaving him dumbfounded.

He had anticipated many scenarios, but never expected Yang Qian’er’s words to be such, presented to him so abruptly, without any forewarning.

Even Bai Xiaosheng was somewhat flustered.

Once Yang Qian’er spoke, her cheeks flushed red, yet she gazed at him with her beautiful eyes, full of burning intensity, and suddenly threw herself into his arms, embracing Bai Xiaosheng.

The suddenness sent Bai Xiaosheng into turmoil.

The fervor immobilized him.

”Isn’t this too sudden?” Bai Xiaosheng said, his mind somewhat blank and forced a smile.

”Not at all!” Yang Qian’er clung to him tightly, ”Not at all! From the moment you came back to Zhongjing, from the moment you saved me from the kidnappers, I started to like you. It’s just that I, I didn’t dare to speak up. Until yesterday, seeing so many women by your side, the way they looked at you, I knew, it was with admiration! So, I can’t be reserved anymore, I must express my feelings!”

Once Yang Qian’er’s words flowed, there was no previous shyness. She was passionate and direct.

”I was originally your date match! Do you, do you dislike me?” Yang Qian’er asked.

Bai Xiaosheng didn’t speak, his expression gradually becoming calm.

”I don’t dislike you, I even like you a bit. With a righteous heart and forthright nature, aside from occasionally being a bit impulsive, you are a very good girl,” Bai Xiaosheng said with a smile.

Yang Qian’er’s face brightened with joy.

”However, I already have someone I like,” Bai Xiaosheng said softly.

Emotions are like tangled threads, they do not begin clear-cut and only become more entangled as they are teased.

Hiding to avoid hurting someone only ends up causing deeper, more painful wounds.

Bai Xiaosheng did not wish for that, so he spoke candidly.

He could clearly feel Yang Qian’er’s body stiffen in disbelief, stepping back to gaze at him.

Her eyes were filled with disappointment.

”Is it, is it Shang Wanwan?” Yang Qian’er asked.

Bai Xiaosheng shook his head.

”Lin Weiwei?”

Bai Xiaosheng shook his head again.

”Zhao Xiaoying?”

Bai Xiaosheng looked at her and said softly, ”None of them. It’s a girl I met in Tiannan.”

Afterward, Bai Xiaosheng told Yang Qian’er about his relationship with Wei Xuelian.

From acquaintance to love, to confessing their feelings to each other, to parting ways.

Bai Xiaosheng did not speak of the hardships or the dramatic ups and downs.

He spoke very calmly, like a babbling brook, serene and purely beautiful, that caused Yang Qian’er’s expression to become transfixed.

Yang Qian’er’s sorrowful demeanor was cleansed away, turning into infatuation.

”There is such a girl waiting for me. How can I let her be disappointed?” Bai Xiaosheng said softly.

”Go back,” Bai Xiaosheng said before turning and leaving.

Yang Qian’er watched his upright figure, her gaze still full of yearning, and then she suddenly called out with determination, ”I, Yang Qian’er, am not a woman who gives up easily! Nor will I give up without a fight!”

Bai Xiaosheng did not look back but simply smiled faintly.

He could not stop others from liking him.

Just as he had never ceased moving forward, pursuing the one he loved!

Upon returning to the banquet hall, the feast continued cheerfully with everyone coming up to toast.

Bai Xiaosheng drank with them all.

Before long, he saw that Yang Qian’er had also returned to the hall.

She seemed unchanged, still laughing and joking with everyone, but when she looked at him, her gaze still carried a hint of fervor.

In response, Bai Xiaosheng simply smiled.

After the banquet ended, Bai Xiaosheng went back to his room.

Before sleeping, he poured a glass of milk, stepped onto the balcony and sipped it slowly, reminiscing about those many nights in Tiannan, the girl next door with waterfall-like long hair and a demeanor as gentle as water.

”There’s still two and a half years. I will find you,” Bai Xiaosheng said to the moon in the sky, softly.

At this very moment.

On a spacious terrace somewhere, a quietly ethereal beauty set aside the business report in her hands and looked up at the sky.

It was Wei Xuelian.

The moonlight was serene and beautiful.

Wei Xuelian wore a serene smile, looking at it, engrossed.

Just as in Tiannan, she and that person would enjoy the moon each night.

In the distance, a man with a handsome face and bright red lips and white teeth gazed at her with a look of admiration deep in his eyes.

Liu Wudao, the man who brought Wei Xuelian back from Tiannan, finally stepped forward and said gently to Wei Xuelian, ”Miss, it’s getting late. You should rest. These work matters can be dealt with tomorrow.”

”I know,” Wei Xuelian said softly.

She continued to enjoy the moonlight for a while before finally rising and going back inside.

Liu Wudao watched her leave, hesitated to speak, but in the end couldn’t help himself, ”As far as I know, he is still trying, his love undiminished.”

Wei Xuelian slowed her pace.

”I know,” she replied with the same words.

But in that phrase, Liu Wudao heard the melting of ice and snow, the babbling of a brook, the warmth of a spring breeze.

Even though she was facing away from him, he knew.

The Miss had smiled.
