Rejected by My Fiancé, I Accidentally Carried His Mother's Heir (GL)

”Your majesty, please let us all explain––” Qazaethel cut Vespera off. The words died in the concubine’s throat as though they had been physically struck from her mouth, and the silence that followed was absolute.

The torches flickered, their flames were bending toward the sovereign as if drawn by the force of her presence, and the shadows on the walls stretched into twisting, distorted shapes that seemed to reach for the trembling omegas huddled around the table.

The air grew thick and heavy, pressing down on every lung in the room, and the concubines found themselves struggling to draw breath as though the very atmosphere had turned against them.

Qazaethel didn’t even blink, the slight tilt of her head was the only movement she made as she silenced the woman. The air in the room seemed to thicken, pressing down on Vespera’s chest until the words died in her throat, replaced by a sharp, desperate gasp for air.

Around her, the other concubines huddled together like frightened animals, their earlier confidence was stripped away by the weight of the sovereign’s undivided attention.

”Explain?” The word was whispered, yet it carried through the room with the weight of a landslide. It echoed off the walls, seemed to resonate in the very foundations of the palace, and the concubines flinched as though they had been struck.

Vespera’s mouth opened and closed soundlessly, her earlier eloquence deserting her entirely. ”You had your opportunity to speak when you were weaving your lies. Now, the time for explanation has passed. We are in the time for... Restitution.”

She leaned forward slightly, the faint glow in her eyes intensifying, casting long, distorted shadows against the sealed walls. The temperature in the room continued to drop, and the concubines could see their own breath misting in the air before their faces.

The frost that had begun on the floorboards crept upward, coating the legs of the chairs and the edges of the table, and the delicate teacups that had been filled with fragrant jasmine tea now held liquid that had gone cold, the surface beginning to skim with ice.

”I find myself curious, Vespera. You were particularly vivid in your suggestions for Lady Eiravelle’s ’liability.’ Be a dear and describe that specific torment again. I want to ensure I don’t miss a single detail when I apply it to you.”

The words were spoken with a calmness that was far more terrifying than any shout could have been. Qazaethel’s voice was soft, almost conversational, but beneath it lay something ancient and dangerous, something that spoke of dragonfire and destruction.

She was not asking. She was commanding, and the weight of that command pressed down on Vespera like a physical force. The other concubines watched with wide, terrified eyes, their bodies were frozen in place, and their minds are racing with the desperate need to escape but knowing that there was nowhere to go.

The doors were sealed. The windows were locked. They were trapped in this room with the sovereign’s wrath, and there was no one coming to save them.

”Y-Your majesty!” Vespera started crying. The tears were sudden and violent, streaming down her cheeks in an uncontrolled flood. Her carefully constructed composure shattered like glass, and she collapsed forward, her hands are pressing against the cold table as though she needed its support to keep from falling.

Her shoulders shook with the force of her sobs, and her voice cracked and broke on every word. ”I did not mean to drop those words, please believe me...!”

Qazaethel’s expression remained as static as stone, unmoved by the sudden eruption of tears. She watched the display of grief with a clinical detachment, as if observing a strange insect struggling on a pin.

The cold in the room deepened, frosting the edges of the fine draperies and turning Vespera’s frantic breaths into small, white clouds of vapor. The other concubines watched in frozen horror, their eyes are darting between Vespera’s sobbing form and the sovereign’s impassive face.

Some of them were crying silently, tears streaming down their own cheeks, but they did not dare to make a sound. They had seen what happened to those who drew the sovereign’s attention in moments like this, and they knew that any movement, any whisper, any plea could make them the next target. So they stayed still. They stayed silent and they waited.

”Believe you?” Qazaethel asked, her voice was devoid of any empathy, sounding almost bored. She tilted her head slightly, studying Vespera with an expression of cold curiosity, as though she were examining a specimen that had disappointed her.

”You mistake me for a creature of faith, Vespera. I do not believe; I observe. I observed your tongue wagging with hunger for another’s ruin. I observed the pleasure you took in the thought of Lady Eiravelle’s suffering.”

She stood up slowly, her movements were fluid and predatory. The clicking of her heels on the marble floor echoed like a countdown in the suffocating silence. Each step was measured, deliberate, and the concubines watched her approach with wide, terrified eyes.

They had never seen her move like this—so controlled, so precise, and so utterly unlike the sovereign they thought they knew.

Stopping just inches from the sobbing woman, Qazaethel reached out, not to comfort, but to tilt Vespera’s chin up with a single, ice-cold finger, forcing the concubine to look directly into those glowing, draconic eyes.

Vespera’s skin was damp with tears, and Qazaethel could feel the way she trembled, could feel the rapid flutter of her pulse beneath her jaw.

But the sovereign did not soften. She did not relent. She simply held Vespera’s gaze, letting the silence stretch until it became unbearable.

”Tears are merely water. They do not wash away the stain of your insolence, nor do they silence the echoes of your own cruelty. Now,” she murmured, the threat was humming in the air,

”tell me again. What was that punishment you spoke of? If you cannot remember, I shall be forced to improvise... And I assure you, my imagination is far more vivid than yours.”

The other concubine stayed silent. For a long moment, the only sound in the room was Vespera’s ragged breathing and the soft crackle of the torches.

The frost continued to creep across the floor, reaching toward the circle of omegas like the fingers of some invisible beast. Then, from the back of the group, a voice rose.

It was trembling, desperate, the voice of someone who had been pushed past the point of reason. The words came out in a rush, tumbling over each other, driven by a mixture of fear and fury that had been building for weeks, for months, for centuries.

”What have she done for you to favor her like this?! We don’t understand, we’ve been beside you for over five centuries... But she came to the picture and you forgot about us!”

The words hung in the air like a challenge, and the concubine who had spoken—a woman named Seraphina, who had once been one of Qazaethel’s favorites in the early years of her reign—stepped forward, her hands clenched into fists at her sides.

Her face was pale, her eyes were wild with a mixture of fear and desperation, and there was a note of genuine confusion in her voice. She did not understand. She could not understand.

She had spent centuries learning the rules of the harem, had played the game of politics and favor with skill and patience. And now, a young omega who had done nothing, who had no connections, who had no power of her own, had somehow captured the sovereign’s heart in a way that none of them had ever managed.

It was incomprehensible. It was unfair. And it had driven her to the edge of her own restraint.

Qazaethel slammed her hand on the table. The sound of the impact was like a thunderclap in the small space, the heavy mahogany table cracking beneath the force of Qazaethel’s strike.

A jagged line split through the polished surface, running from the point of impact to the edge, and the vibration rattled the teeth of every omega in the room.

A few of them shrieked, collapsing to their knees in an instinctive plea for mercy, their fine silk robes are pooling around them like puddles of spilled water. The teacups rattled and toppled, spilling cold tea across the ruined table, and the delicate pastries that had been arranged so carefully now lay crushed and forgotten.

The sound echoed through the chamber, bouncing off the walls and the ceiling, and it seemed to go on and on, a physical manifestation of the sovereign’s fury.

”Five centuries,” Qazaethel spat, her voice dropped to a low, dangerous hiss that vibrated in the very marrow of their bones.

She didn’t look at the woman who had spoken; she kept her gaze fixed on Vespera, though her aura expanded to swallow the entire room in a suffocating pressure. The glow in her eyes had intensified, and there was something almost inhuman about her now, something that reminded the concubines that she was not just their sovereign, not just the alpha who had claimed them.

She was a dragon, ancient and powerful, and they had been foolish enough to forget that.

”You speak of longevity as if it were a currency. You believe that because you have lingered in my shadow for half a millennium, you have earned a seat at my side of the scales?”

She turned her head slowly toward the speaker, her eyes are flashing with a sudden, violent intensity. The temperature dropped further, the frost was now creeping across the floorboards toward the concubines’ trembling feet.

Seraphina, who had spoken with such desperate courage, took a step back, her face was draining of what little color it had possessed. She had not expected this. She had thought that her years of service, her history with the sovereign, would protect her.

She had been wrong. The realization hit her like a physical blow, and she felt her legs weaken beneath her, threatening to give out entirely.

”You were not ’beside’ me. You were ornaments. Perfumed distractions meant to fill the silence of a palace. Eiravelle,” she murmured, the name sounding like a prayer and a promise all at once, ”does not seek to be an ornament. She does not beg for my favor with the whining tone of a neglected pet.”

Qazaethel stepped closer to the speaker, her presence was looming and predatory. The other concubines shrank back, pressing themselves against the walls, their fear a palpable thing that filled the room.

”To suggest that I have ’forgotten’ you is a delusion. I simply ceased to notice the noise you make. But now... Now you have my full, undivided attention.”

Qazaethel’s voice dropped to a dangerous low as she said the final sentence. The words were cold and deliberate, each one was falling like a hammer blow against the trembling silence. Seraphina opened her mouth as though to speak, but no sound came out.

Her breath misted in the freezing air, and she could feel the cold seeping into her bones, numbing her fingers and toes. She had never been so afraid in her life.

She had never understood, until this moment, what it meant to be truly powerless. The sovereign was not just angry. The sovereign was something else entirely—something ancient and terrible that had been sleeping beneath the surface of the composed ruler they thought they knew.

The silence stretched on, thick and suffocating, and no one dared to break it. Vespera was still crying, her tears falling onto the cracked table, but even her sobs had quieted to barely audible whimpers.

The other concubines remained frozen, their eyes were fixed on the sovereign, waiting for whatever would come next. The room was cold enough now that the frost had spread to the walls, creeping up the tapestries and crystallizing on the edges of the furniture. It was a physical manifestation of Qazaethel’s rage, a cold that seeped into the bones and refused to leave.

Qazaethel looked at them—really looked at them—and something in her expression shifted. It was not softening, not exactly.

It was something closer to resignation, to the weary acceptance of a truth she had not wanted to face. These omegas had been with her for centuries.

She had given them wealth and status and protection. She had asked for nothing in return except their loyalty and their discretion.

And they had repaid her by tormenting an innocent omega who had done nothing to any of them except exist. The betrayal was not just theirs. It was hers as well, for having trusted them in the first place.

”You have all disappointed me,” she said, her voice was quieter now but no less dangerous. ”I gave you everything. Wealth, status, protection. I asked for nothing in return except your loyalty and your discretion. And you repaid me by tormenting an innocent omega who has done nothing to any of you except exist.”

She paused, letting the words sink in. The concubines did not dare to look at her. They kept their eyes downcast, their shoulders are hunched and their hands are clasped tightly in their laps.

Some of them were trembling. Others had gone very still, as though hoping that if they did not move, they might somehow become invisible. The frost continued to creep across the floor, and the air grew colder still, until it was painful to breathe.

”Vespera,” Qazaethel said, and the named woman flinched as though she had been struck. Her head snapped up, her tear-streaked face was pale with terror, and she stared at the sovereign with wide, desperate eyes.

”You were the first. You were the one I trusted most. And you were the one who led them all in this... Campaign of cruelty. I expected better from you.”

Vespera opened her mouth, perhaps to plead, perhaps to apologize, but no words came out. She simply stared at Qazaethel with wide, terrified eyes, her tears are still falling while her body was shaking with silent sobs.

She had been the first concubine, the highest-ranking, the one who had stood at the sovereign’s side for centuries. And she had thrown it all away for jealousy, for spite, for the petty satisfaction of making someone else feel small.

”I am not going to kill you,” Qazaethel continued, and there was a collective release of breath from the concubines, a brief moment of relief that was almost immediately extinguished by her next words. ”Death would be too simple. Too quick. You have spent weeks making Eiravelle’s life a living nightmare, and now you will spend the rest of your days understanding exactly what that means.”

She stepped back, putting distance between herself and the huddled group. The cold in the room began to recede, the frost melting into small puddles that glistened on the floor.

But the tension remained, thick and heavy, pressing down on the concubines like a physical weight. They had been spared the worst, perhaps, but they had not been forgiven. They would never be forgiven.

”You will remain here until I decide what to do with you,” Qazaethel said, her voice was returning to something closer to its normal tone.

”The guards will bring you food and water. You will not leave this room. You will not speak to anyone. You will sit here and think about what you have done, and you will pray that I am feeling merciful when I return.”

She turned and walked toward the door, her footsteps are echoing in the silence. The frost cracked beneath her heels, and the torches flickered as she passed, as though even the flames were afraid to draw too close.

She reached the door and placed her hand against it. The wood, which had been sealed by her power, groaned and split, swinging open to reveal the dark corridor beyond.

She did not look back.

She simply stepped through the doorway and disappeared into the shadows, leaving the concubines alone with their fear and their guilt and the cold, creeping knowledge that everything had changed.

The door closed behind her with a heavy thud, and the concubines were left in darkness. The torches had dimmed to embers, casting only the faintest glow across the ruined table and the scattered teacups and the frost that still clung to the corners of the room.

Vespera slumped forward, her forehead was now resting on the cracked surface of the table, and her sobs were filled the silence. The other concubines huddled together, seeking comfort in each other’s warmth, but there was no comfort to be found.

They had crossed a line. They had hurt someone under the sovereign’s protection, and now they would pay the price.

Seraphina, still pressed against the wall, slid down until she was sitting on the cold floor. She wrapped her arms around her knees and stared at nothing, her mind was replaying the sovereign’s words over and over.

She had been foolish. They had all been foolish. They had thought that their years of service, their positions, and their connections, would protect them.

They had been wrong. And now, they could only wait and wonder what punishment the sovereign would deem appropriate. The night stretched on, cold and silent, and the concubines remained where they were, trapped in the room and in their own regrets.
