Rejected by My Fiancé, I Accidentally Carried His Mother's Heir (GL)

It was into this moment of unaccustomed vulnerability that Liv returned, her approach was silent as shadow, her lips brushed against Qazaethel’s ear with the barest whisper of breath. ”Your Majesty,” the servant murmured, her voice carried the urgency of their clandestine purpose,

”I have search every thing you needed to know regarding lady Eiravelle. Her background remains clean, her origins remain clean too.”

Qazaethel nodded, the motion was curt and controlled, though her gaze remained fixed upon the omega who counted her coins with such methodical precision. ”forget it,” she commanded softly, her own voice was barely audible above the ambient noise of the jewelry shop beyond the windows.

”We did not come here to discover the mysteries of street vendors. Where is our contact? The one who agreed to provide us the information we needed?”

Liv’s hesitation was palpable, a tension that communicated itself through the air between them. ”I cannot locate them, Majesty. They were to meet us at the third hour past noon, yet there was no sign of them. It is as though they have vanished into the very stones of the city.”

Qazaethel’s jaw tightened beneath her mask, frustration mounted within her heart. They had risked much in coming here—she, the Sovereign of Solkanaia, coming unescorted into this common marketplace, while her identity was concealed behind leather and shadow, all to meet with a informant who now seemed to have evaporated like morning fog.

The informant they’re looking for was important; reports of organized resistance in the northern provinces had reached her council, whispers of weapons caches and gatherings that threatened the fragile peace she had spent years constructing had been breached. That is why she needed to find this informant to know who is the parasite inside her palace.

”Continue the search,” she instructed, her voice carried the iron authority that had subdued rebellions and negotiated treaties. ”Check the secondary locations. Perhaps they were observed and forced to relocate.”

Liv melted away into the crowd, leaving Qazaethel to maintain her solitary vigil. The sovereign positioned herself near the window, her eyes scanned the marketplace for any sign of her missing contact, yet finding her attention drawn repeatedly back to the omega who now rose to serve another customer.

The minutes stretched into half-hours, and the light began to shift from gold to amber as the sun descended toward the western horizon. Qazaethel’s frustration mounted with each passing moment, her fingers drummed silently against her thigh. The informant’s absence suggested either betrayal or capture—neither prospect comforts the ruler who had staked her personal safety upon this clandestine meeting.

She became aware that Eiravelle had concluded her business for the day, the small pouch of coins was now secured within the folds of her skirt. The omega moved toward the door, her intention was clearly to leave, and Qazaethel felt a sudden, inexplicable urgency to delay that departure, to extend this strange interlude that had so disrupted her peace.

She took a step forward, her hand was rising in an unspoken gesture, her mouth was opening to call out—though what words she might have spoken remained forever unknown.

For in that instant, the world shattered.

The arrow entered through the open window with a sound like the tearing of silk, a blur of dark wood and feathered death that moved faster than mortal eye could track.

Qazaethel felt the impact before she recognized it—a sudden, violent pressure in her upper chest, a sensation of being simultaneously pushed backward and pulled inward, heat and cold warred for dominance in her suddenly uncooperative flesh.

She collapsed without grace, her body was striking the marble floor with a force that drove the air from her lungs in a gasping cry. Pain—pure, white-hot, and absolute—erupted through her torso, radiating outward in waves that seemed to pulse in time with her faltering heartbeat. Her fingers clawed at the shaft protruding from her chest, her mind was struggling to process the reality of attack.

Liv’s scream cut through the chaos, a sound of pure horror that seemed to come from a great distance. The servant moved with supernatural speed, her hands wave patterns in the air as she summoned the barriers that were her birthright as a mage and War Genera; of the royal household.

Windows slammed shut with the force of thunder, the door was sealed itself with barriers of shimmering light, and the ordinary patrons of the shop found themselves imprisoned within a cage of sorcery.

Panic erupted among the civilians. A woman screamed, high and piercing; a man shouted curses; chairs overturned as bodies sought refuge in corners and behind counters. The chaos of fear filled the air like a physical miasma.

Yet through it all, Eiravelle moved with preternatural calm.

The omega was at Qazaethel’s side in an instant, her knees hit the floor without regard for the damage to her garments, her hands reached out to assess the wound with a competence that spoke her youth.

Those same delicate fingers that had counted coins and given charity was now pressed against the flesh surrounding the embedded arrow, probing with gentle precision even as Qazaethel’s golden blood wrapped her palms.

”Do not sleep, my Lordess,” Liv commanded, her voice was cracking with desperation as she knelt to cradle her ruler’s head.

”Open your eyes,” Eiravelle instructed, her tone was carrying an authority that momentarily surpassed even the royal command. ”Breathe. Focus on my voice and breathe.”

Qazaethel’s vision swam, the faces above her blurred into indistinct shapes, yet she felt the pressure of Eiravelle’s fingers against her cheek, cool and steady against the fever of her injury.

The omega’s face swam into focus, and in those pink ruby eyes, Qazaethel didn’t saw fear, but determination—a fierce, burning will that commanded her to hold fast to consciousness.

”Your blood...” Eiravelle whispered, her gaze dropped to the golden liquid coating her hands. The recognition in her voice was unmistakable—the hue of gold was known to all who had studied the histories of the realm. Only the sovereign line bled gold; only the divine right of royals can attain such blood.

”She is the Sovereign,” Liv hissed as she said the truth, her composure was fracturing beneath the weight of catastrophe.

The revelation rippled through the assembled crowd like a wave. Gasps of horror and awe filled the air as the patrons realized that the masked figure they had ignored was none other than Qazaethel the ruthless but just and fair ruler of the Solkanaia divine Realm. Protector of Omegas, and the sovereign whose name was spoken in whispers of reverence and fear.

Thane, the shopkeeper, fell to his knees, his face drained of color until he resembled a corpse already prepared for burial.

Eiravelle did not flinch. Her expression remained fixed in that mask of calm exterior, though her hands trembled slightly as she wiped the golden blood upon her skirt and turned to address the terrified merchant. ”Lord Thane,” she said, her voice was cutting through the panic crowd like a blade through water, ”you deal in medicinal supplies. Where do you keep your elixirs? Your potions? I need everything you possess that pertains to poison neutralization and wound cleansing.”

Thane’s mouth opened and closed like a fish deprived of water, no sound emerging from his throat.

”Please,” Eiravelle pressed, leaning forward to capture his gaze with her own. ”I know you are frightened. I know your knees shake and your heart fails you. But I need you to think, to remember, and to act. The Sovereign’s life depends upon your cooperation. Where are your medicines?”

The appeal to duty seemed to penetrate Thane’s shock. He swallowed convulsively, his hands twisted in his sleeve. ”The—the back room,” he stammered. ”I have shelves there, bottles and vials, but I do not know which might serve, which might harm—”

”Fetch them,” Eiravelle commanded. ”All of them. Waste no moment.”

Thane scrambled to obey, disappearing into the rear of the shop with the desperate energy of the one who hopes to outrun his own internal turmoil through useful action.

Eiravelle turned back to Qazaethel, her hand found the sovereign’s and pressed it with a firmness that seemed to anchor the injured woman to the world of the living. ”You will endure this,” she stated, not as promise but as fact. ”Please, your majesty.”

Qazaethel tried to speak, to express gratitude or perhaps merely acknowledgment, but her tongue felt thick and unresponsive in her mouth. Her limbs had become foreign to her, heavy as lead and weak as water, her bones felt like it was about to dissolve into something strange.

She could feel the poison working through her system—a cold malignancy that spread from the wound like frost across a winter window, seeking her heart with deliberate malice.

”The arrow was prepared with specific intent,” Eiravelle observed, her fingers moved to probe the wound with a gentleness that somehow minimized the agony of her examination. ”They knew their target, knew that ordinary steel cannot pierce the sovereign’s flesh. This weapon was enchanted to suppress your natural defenses, to block the flow of mana that sustains your divine protection.”

”How—how can you know this?” Liv demanded, suspicion warred with desperation in her voice.

”I am a student at the Solkanaia Royal Academy,” Eiravelle replied, not looking up from her examination. ”Medicinal theory was my particular focus, though I confess my practical experience falls short of my theoretical knowledge. I know enough to recognize the signatures of anti-magic poison, but not enough to guarantee that I can save her.”

Thane returned then, his arms were laden with bottles of varying shapes and hues—crystal and clay, glass and stone, containing liquids that ranged from clear as spring water to dark as old blood. He put them down on the floor with a clatter that seemed loud in the hushed atmosphere of the shop.

”I brought everything,” he gasped, his chest was heaving with exertion and terror. ”Every elixir, every potion, every tincture in my inventory. I do not know their purposes, their dangers—”

Eiravelle was already moving, her hands are selecting bottles with practiced ease, uncorking them to sniff at their contents, holding them to the light to examine their viscosity and color.

”This is nightshade extract,” she murmured, setting one vial aside. ”This, distilled moonflower—useful for sleep, fatal for one struggling against poison. This...” She paused, her nostrils flaring as she inhaled the scent of a pale blue liquid.

”This is what we needed. Purified essence of dawn-lily, combined with stabilizing agents. It will counteract the magical suppression and allow her natural healing to resume.”

”Are you certain?” Liv asked, her voice was raw with hope and fear. ”Lady Eiravelle, if you are wrong—”

”Then we lose nothing but time we have already lost,” Eiravelle replied, her fingers are already working to lift Qazaethel’s head properly from Liv’s arms. ”The poison progresses with each heartbeat. We must act, or we must surrender to inevitability. And I am choosing to act.”

”No,” Liv whispered, the sound was torn from her throat like a physical wound. ”Your Majesty, wake up, I beg you, wake—”

”All of you,” Eiravelle commanded, her voice was rising to fill the space with unexpected authority, ”avert your eyes. Close them. The Sovereign didn’t gave us permission to see her face, and to gaze upon her unmasked without consent is a crime against the crown itself.”

The logic of her appeal to law and custom penetrated the fog of terror that held the assembled crowd. One by one, the people turned away, pressing hands over their eyes, sinking to the floor in postures of submission. Even Thane obeyed, his face was turned toward the wall, his eyes were squeezed shut in desperate compliance.

Only Liv remained with sight, holding her ruler against her arms as though she could physically prevent the soul from departing through sheer force of will.

”My eyes are closed,” Eiravelle announced. ”Remove her mask. We cannot administer the elixir if she still wears it.”

Liv’s hands moved with desperate care, unlacing the ties that held the mask in place, lifting the leather from Qazaethel’s features that was rarely witnessed in life by common eyes. The face revealed was striking even in extremis—strong bones and proud lines, the mark of divine authority was written in every angle.

Eiravelle’s breath caught at the sight, not from recognition of royal station, but from something more immediate and personal. She reached out, her fingers are tracing the contours of Qazaethel’s cheek with a tenderness that seemed to transcend the urgency of their situation.

The sovereign’s lips, parted slightly in her struggle for breath, appeared almost vulnerable, stripped of the authority that the mask represented.

”Drink,” Eiravelle whispered, tilting the bottle to allow the pale liquid to flow between those parted lips.

The elixir passed down Qazaethel’s throat, visible as a movement beneath the skin, and for a moment nothing changed. The sovereign remained limp and unresponsive, her golden blood still seeped from the wound to pool upon the floorboards in terrible, beautiful profusion.

Then, like the sun breaking through storm clouds, color began to return to her cheeks. Her chest rose with a deeper breath, then another, and her eyelids fluttered, though they did not open yet.

”She breathes,” Liv sobbed, the words were half-prayer, half-acknowledgment. ”By the gods, she breathes.”

”She will live,” Eiravelle confirmed, though she did not withdraw her hand from where it rested against Qazaethel’s cheek. ”The poison retreats. Her own healing begins to awaken. But we must remove the arrow, and we must do so carefully, or we risk completing what the assassin began.”

The omega looked up at Liv, her expression was serious and focused, all trace of the gentle street vendor was replaced by the competent healer. ”I will need your assistance, your knowledge of her body’s responses. And we will need to work quickly, before the elixir’s effects fade and the poison continues to spread.”

As the two women bent to their desperate work, the afternoon light continued its slow descent into evening, casting long shadows across the floor where golden blood still gleamed, and where the boundary between sovereign and subject, alpha and omega, had been irrevocably crossed by the sharp edge of urgency and mercy.
