Chapter 2607  A Competition With A Demoness

If not for the fact that Ziran was a cultivator on top of being a half-elf, he might have already lost a limb or two in the tussle. His quarter Wood Elf bloodline also granted him higher vitality and healing, which allowed him to withstand his children.

Perhaps that was also one of the reasons he had managed to father so many children. Keeping up with a demon wife for such a long time was an achievement in itself. If it were a normal human—or even a cultivator—they might have been drained to death. Perhaps only a body cultivator could match the vibrant stamina and vigor of a demoness.

ʼDamn, the demon children sure are rough,ʼ Lin Mu thought to himself as he watched the kids quite literally toss their father into the air as if he were a mere plush toy.

Ziran kept laughing through it as if he enjoyed the chaos, but Lin Mu could tell from his eyes that there was pain hidden beyond the surface. Still, there was no way the man could bring himself to express it. He might be a henpecked husband, but he had his own pride.

”You,” Karlia said, pointing to Lin Mu. ”We talk.”

”Alright,” Lin Mu replied, knowing she probably had some questions for him, just as he had for her.

It made sense; Ziran had been MIA and with him for the last forty years or so. Lin Mu felt he owed the woman at least that much. On some level, he also hoped to help the half-elf, trying to reduce his ”sentence.”

”Letʼs go.” Karlia didnʼt wait for an answer and dragged him along without a care.

Lin Mu followed, noticing the level of strength she used. If this had been any other cultivator, their bones might have already cracked.

ʼSheʼs testing me,ʼ Lin Mu understood.

While he hadnʼt interacted with demons before, he had studied them enough to know their habits and tendencies. Among these, the tendency to seek out and verify strong opponents was one of the most common. Karlia herself was a Seventh Tribulation Stage Immortal Realm demon, and it was strange that she had taken Ziran as her husband.

From what Lin Mu had read, most demonesses only took males as husbands if they could defeat them. Even though Lin Mu knew Ziran was capable, he wasnʼt delusional enough to believe the half-elf had overpowered his wife in any way.

Demons were well-known for testing their strength against opponents, even if they knew they couldnʼt win. They hoped to learn something or find a method to improve their strength. Lin Mu, being a body cultivator and having the Burning Heart Sutra—a skill from the Demonic Path—understood these tendencies firsthand.

Since he was a body cultivator himself, he didnʼt mind the demonessʼs rough behavior. To him, it may as well have been a wily child dragging him along.

Of course, Karlia didnʼt fail to notice this.

ʼHeʼs certainly strong. Any other immortal wouldʼve already broken their arm by now with this kind of pull,ʼ Karlia thought to herself. ʼJust means I can be rougher,ʼ she added, a smile appearing on her face, her sharp fangs gleaming.

”Youʼre too slow!” she exclaimed before stomping on the ground and shattering the segment of the street they stood on.

CRACK

SHATTER

WHOOSH

Lin Mu allowed himself to be pulled harder but took no offense to it. Instead, he smiled and retorted, ”If you want me to be faster, I can be fast.”

With that, he stomped down with his own foot. A faint hint of tyrannical aura surged through his leg, propelling him forward like a cannonball.

”UGH!” This time, it was Karlia who was being dragged along instead.

She only felt the pain momentarily before the smile returned to her face. ”Looks like youʼre a hundred times better than Ziranʼs old weakling friends. The best they can do is throw some skills, but theyʼre all weak-boned with paper skin,” Karlia said as she began matching Lin Muʼs pace.

CRACK

CRACK

CRACK

The sound of their stomps echoed through the streets, breaking multiple segments as their speed kept increasing.

If Lin Mu werenʼt a well-known figure and the Imperial Imperator of the Dao Wind Empire, there might already have been an entire battalion of guards trying to apprehend him—especially considering he was currently ”absconding” with a literal demon!

Their run turned into a competition, each trying to outpace the other. When they reached the limits of speed within the city, they decided to change locations.

”Letʼs take this somewhere that can handle our power. These fragile human cities arenʼt built for us!” Karlia declared. She stomped hard on the ground, launching herself and Lin Mu into the sky like rockets.

BOOM

The two shot into the air at a speed that might have skinned most living creatures alive. Yet both of them wore wide smiles that could only be described as manic.

None of them cared—and it wasnʼt as if anyone would stop them, either.

Lin Mu was well aware that the Crown Prince and the Imperial Court likely knew about their little competition. As for the damage to the city, it was insignificant compared to the benefits he had brought to the empire. No one would bother to complain.

The further they went the more intense their competition got and at a certain point it was no longer a competition about just speed, but the aura that they could exude.

HUALA

Karlia released all her demonic aura, showing her prowess at the Seventh Tribulation Level of the Immortal Realm. She was actually a few notches above that too, but not totally close to the peak of the immortal realm.

It showed Lin Mu that she was no joke and with the depth of her aura, he could tell that her power was honed through countless battles. It made Lin Mu even more curious about this demoness and how she had actually come to accept someone like Ziran as a husband.
