Transmigrated as The Best Female Character of the Year

A knock sounded at the door.

Evan Fairchild walked over and took a white shopping bag from Tommy.

Melody Monroe glanced over and immediately guessed what was inside.

Last time it was clothes.

This time, it was daily necessities again.

’Seriously... I had to bite back a string of curses.’

Evan Fairchild handed the bag to Melody Monroe. ”Go take a hot shower.”

”Thank you.” She took the bag from Evan Fairchild and walked toward the bathroom.

She only dried her hair before coming out to see Evan Fairchild sitting on the sofa, looking at a menu. ’This man... truly a feast for the eyes from any angle.’

Evan Fairchild looked toward Melody Monroe.

’She’s out so quickly. She definitely didn’t even take a shower.’

’Does she hate me that much? The moment she found out I lived here, she immediately moved out.’

’Whenever she’s with me, she always seems so distant.’

’If I hadn’t been so direct that day, would things between us be a little better now?’

Evan Fairchild had never questioned himself like this before.

’Does Melody Monroe actually know who Ian’s biological father is?’

’If she doesn’t know, then why is she avoiding me like this, as if she has a guilty conscience and is running away?’

Melody Monroe also had no idea what was wrong with Evan Fairchild. ’Why isn’t he following the script at all?!’

’Does he know what happened that night or not? In the original novel, it said that Evan Fairchild always thought it was just a dream, that it wasn’t real.’

She didn’t dare to verify it, nor did she dare to hope for a lucky break. The torment was like standing on a red-hot iron plate.

”Feeling any better?” Evan Fairchild asked.

”Much better,” Melody Monroe nodded.

Evan Fairchild stood up, mixed a cup of medicine, and brought over a thermometer.

”This is for your cold. Your forehead is a little hot. Let’s see what your temperature is.”

Melody Monroe took the medicine with one hand and the thermometer with the other. ”Thank you.” She took her temperature and found she had a fever of 101.5 degrees.

Evan Fairchild took the thermometer, then pulled out a blister pack of pills, popped one out, and gave it to Melody Monroe. ”Take a fever reducer.”

Melody Monroe took it, and Evan Fairchild handed her a glass of warm water.

This side of Evan Fairchild left her feeling overwhelmed by the unexpected favor.

”Take a look at the menu.”

”I can eat anything.” Melody Monroe rarely ate much in the evenings.

Evan Fairchild put down the menu and picked up the phone to order food.

Melody Monroe felt completely ill at ease sitting there. ’At this rate,’ she thought, ’I’m going to have a nervous breakdown.’

”President Fairchild, I think we should keep some distance between us,” she finally said after careful consideration.

”Why?”

”First of all, I’m an artist with Stellaris, and you’re the big boss of Starfall. Interacting like this could easily lead to misunderstandings. Secondly, if someone took a picture of us, it would damage your reputation. It wouldn’t be good if some scandal started spreading. And for me, being too close to you would also cause a lot of trouble.”

Evan Fairchild could tell that Melody Monroe genuinely wanted to draw a clear line between them.

”President Fairchild, we don’t know each other well. We just had that chance encounter in the elevator. I’m just a nobody. I’m begging you, please let me go! If you really want to repay a debt, just give me some money. That’s what I want—and need—the most.”

”We don’t know each other well?” Evan Fairchild retorted.

’It seems,’ he thought, ’that she’s forgotten what happened that night even more completely than I have!’

Melody Monroe bit her dry lips and asked with a blank expression, ”We’ve only met a few times. That doesn’t count as knowing each other well, does it?”

The look in Evan Fairchild’s eyes darkened a little more.

’So, she really doesn’t know I was the man from that night.’

”President Fairchild, if you... if you really are... like that... I’ll come find you in seven days. I promise to satisfy you then.”
