The 99th Divorce

For orphans abandoned in the orphanage, no one knew their real date of birth. Everyone took the date when the orphanage found them as their birthday.

Yu Lili was discovered on the fifth day of the first lunar month. Because of the special date on which she was found, she would be paid three times as long as she worked in that period. So in the past 17 years, Yu Lili had not celebrated her birthday properly. She might do a part-time job in a restaurant or be an administrator in an amusement park.

She thought that her eighteenth birthday would be the same as before, but this year it made her feel very different.

Ding Dong!

When the doorbell rang, Yu Lili jumped up happily from the sofa, ran toward the door with her cotton-padded shoes, and opened the door directly.

When Ou Ming saw her like this, he frowned and said, “You always open the door without asking who it is. What will you do if there is a bad guy outside?”

“It won’t happen!” Yu Lili said excitedly. And her eyes stared to his hand – there was a big cake in it. “Wow, there’s really a cake. Haha, give it to me!” said Yu Lili happily.

Yu Lili took the cake out of Ou Ming’s hand. She sniffed it and walked into the room with it. Seeing this, Ou Ming closed the door with a happy face. He went in, took off his coat and put it on the sofa.

“Happy birthday, baby.” Ou Ming sat beside her and said, “You’re eighteen years old and grown up now.”

Yu Lili she nodded with bright eyes, feeling a little excited. Especially when she saw the big chocolate cake, her mouth was even watering. She turned her head to Ou Ming and her eyes shone brightly. “Wow, can we finish eating such a big cake?” said Yu Lili.

Ou Ming laughed happily. He took the paper plate apart and helped her insert 18 candles. After lighting them one by one, he said, “Make a wish now.”

“What, make a wish right away…” She looked at him in disappointment and said, “Please sing a happy birthday song for me? Please.”

“It’s childish to sing a song,” Ou Ming patted her on the head and whispered, “Blow the candles and make a wish quickly.”

Yu Lili muttered, and her little face was flushed by the candle fire. Her small face was flushed by the candle fire, as if it were covered with an orange glow. She laughed more and more happily and said, “I hope I can eat cake on my birthday in the future.”

What a simple birthday wish, it made Ou Ming’s heart break. His big hand touched her small head, hi’s eyes were gentle, and he said, “There will be, there will be cakes for your every birthday in the future.”

“Really?” Yu Lili looked at him with a smile and a pair of eyes like bright stars. Turning her head, she blew out the candle and said, “I’ve never eaten such a big cake. I want to eat this icing flower!”

“It’s all yours. Eat slowly.” Ou Ming sat aside and looked at her with a smile. This smile had the kind of spoiling love to a kid, and a deep meaning that she couldn’t understand.

Ou Ming had lived with her for more than nine months. Over the past nine months, they had become more and more familiar with each other. They shared the same bed and slept together naturally, but Ou Ming did not do a thing. Even kissing her was a gentle touch on her forehead, without excessive behavior.

It’s finally the day I am looking forward to. From today on, she’s grown up.

Ou Ming’s eyes became darker. He saw Yu Lili pulling out the candle and cutting the cake carefully with a spoiled look in her eyes.
