This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Chapter 144: 144 Human Nature Destruction

An Chunhui’s voice on the phone was very serious and urgent, which put a lot of pressure on Du Heng and made him nervous instantly.

”I got it, Director An, we’ll set off right away.”

”Good, follow the instructions of the Police station when you arrive at the scene. The emergency vehicle from the Municipal First Hospital will also be there shortly.”

”Understood.”

The moment he hung up the phone, the figure of Du Da appeared in Du Heng’s mind. This was because Du Da’s family was from the third brigade, and their house was a small three-story building.

Without giving it much thought, Du Heng started making calls to the driver, Wang Lili, and then Zhang Jinlian.

However, Zhang Jinlian was unusually proactive today and was already on her way to Lijiawa Primary School. It was not realistic for her to come back now.

After making the calls, Du Heng immediately informed Wang Zhenzhen at the registration office and asked Sir Li Xiang to stay at the Health Clinic.

The Health Clinic had an ambulance, but its only function was to transport patients. Therefore, it was merely a transfer vehicle, without adequate emergency equipment or supplies.

As everyone prepared to leave, they hastily began to load the ambulance with emergency medicine, portable oxygen cylinders, and even had to add stretchers.

When taking these items out, Du Heng’s eyelids twitched with anger.

Dammit, such important items were covered in dust.

Of course, this also indirectly indicated that the Health Clinic was usually quite idle.

But there was no time to obsess over these details now. They loaded the items into the car and rushed towards Duke Village.

On the way, they received a call from Gong Daoyang, who was ahead of them with his team. From what he said, it was clear that the madman was indeed Du Da.

Afterward, Du Heng informed Gong Daoyang about what he had seen the day before and his suspicion.

”Is what you’re saying true?” After listening to Du Heng, there was excitement and a slight nervousness in Gong Daoyang’s tone.

For such a question, Du Heng could only say it was a suspicion; he couldn’t be certain.

However, Gong Daoyang didn’t mind at all. ”Whether it’s true or not, your information is very timely. If he really is an addict, he might have something on him, and we can be prepared. Okay, we’ve arrived. You guys hurry up.”

Then, he heard the SLAM! SLAM! SLAM! of car doors, and the call ended.

Du Heng didn’t push the driver, who was already going as fast as he could.

Five minutes after hanging up, they arrived at the scene in Duke Village. The homesteads in Duke Village were packed tightly together, with shared walls between adjacent houses. The houses were built against the mountain, making the open space in front of them very narrow. By the time Du Heng arrived, the place was already surrounded by three layers of onlookers, inside and out.

With no other choice, Du Heng, with Wang Lili carrying a first-aid kit, and the driver carrying a stretcher in one hand, had to push their way through the crowd.

When they saw the scene, Du Heng’s heart was pounding.

Du Da was standing in a third-floor room, holding his mother’s legs with both hands, her body dangling out of the window. He was shouting and yelling inside the room, punctuated by bursts of maniacal laughter.

Du Da’s mother was quite frail, like a toy in his hands—a ragdoll tossed back and forth.

By now, she seemed to have given up on resisting, as both her arms hung limply by her side, and her clothes had ridden up, exposing her entire upper body.

Whenever Du Da swung her, her arms would sway limply, making her look like a corpse.

The police were shouting from below, along with Du Fei’s father and other family members. Even the Old Lady, who had just celebrated her eighty-eighth birthday the day before, was crying and pleading with Du Da to put his mother down.

Police officers were shouting, and they had also spread about ten thick quilts on the ground directly beneath Du Da’s mother.

Although Du Da was standing inside the room, he could see what was happening downstairs as he leaned out and deliberately lowered his mother. As a result, they didn’t dare to push the prepared quilts too far out, afraid he might suddenly toss her further. Moreover, no one dared to use a ladder to try and rescue his mother from below.

Gong Daoyang came over to Du Heng as soon as he saw him and asked, ”Can you tell me if that woman is still alive?”

Du Heng quietly shifted his position to get a better view of Du Da’s mother’s face and eyes. Her face was constantly scraping against the wall, already covered in dirt. But her eyes... How could he describe them?

They were open, and her eyelids would move. However, her eyeballs remained still, her gaze vacant and lifeless.

Having returned to Gong Daoyang’s side, Du Heng whispered, ”She’s alive, but in a poor mental state.”

”That’s a relief.” Gong Daoyang then turned to discuss countermeasures with the others.

Du Da seemed to tire. He pulled his mother partially back in, leaving her dangling halfway out the window. He continued shouting, cursing people to die horrible deaths, demanding that those shouting from below kneel, and laughing maniacally from time to time.

He appeared extremely agitated, completely frenzied and demonic. There was no trace of humanity.

At this point, if Du Da’s mother had resisted, she could have returned to the room. As long as she managed to stall him for a while, the police upstairs could have restrained Du Da.

But she didn’t. She just hung there like dead weight.

Du Heng felt that while being exposed like that in public was humiliating, it must have been her deranged son who had truly robbed her of her will to live.

It wasn’t clear what happened upstairs, but Du Da suddenly screamed. He grabbed his mother, who had been draped over the windowsill, fully into his grasp again, holding her completely suspended once more.

There was an outcry from the crowd below, and Du Heng’s heart tightened.

At a height of over six or seven meters, if one lands in an appropriate position, it would not be fatal. Just like when Ma fell from the doorstep the day before, he only had the wind knocked out of him.

But the current situation was different. The person was hanging upside-down, and the ground below was concrete, not the soft soil that Ma had landed on. Moreover, with Du Da swinging his mother back and forth and her complete lack of resistance, if she were thrown down, she would undoubtedly land head and face first. In that case, even if she survived, she would be critically injured.

The longer this situation persisted, the more dangerous it became. If Du Da’s strength failed or his grip slipped, she would surely be flung out. Worse still, given his frenzied state, if he lost all reason and deliberately threw her, the consequences would be unimaginable.

But Du Heng was powerless in this situation. At this moment, the presence of the doctors was nothing more than preparing for the worst-case scenario.

Commanding the rescue operation on-site was up to the police.

However, the Police station’s force was indeed insufficient and lacked powerful equipment. They could only keep shouting and looking for opportunities without provoking Du Da, so they were somewhat at their wits’ end.

Fortunately, after about twenty minutes of the standoff, reinforcements from the Branch Office arrived.
