This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Chapter 112: 112 I became an official.

After meeting An Chunhui, Du Heng didn’t return to the Zhonghu Town Health Clinic. Instead, he went directly to the Fanjiaping Health Center.

He was looking for Li Qingde.

In Li Qingde’s new office, one man sat in silence while the other chain-smoked furiously.

Li Qingde, in particular, puffed so hard he nearly set the filter on fire.

How did things get to this point?

His efforts to connect Du Heng seemed to have been in vain.

But he was, after all, a seasoned leader, and his self-regulation skills were outstanding. After five cigarettes, he had composed himself.

”Congratulations, Xiao Du. No, I should call you President Du from now on,” he said, tearing up a piece of paper on the table. ”It seems this is no longer needed. I can’t have you transferred here; otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to remain Director.”

”Director Li, please stop joking. I’m hardly a President.”

”What do you mean? Isn’t an acting President still a President? Given the attitude of the leaders who spoke with you today, the ’acting’ will definitely be removed from your title by the end of this month at the latest.”

Du Heng didn’t know how to feel. There was certainly excitement, but even more so, apprehension. He was too young. He lacked seniority and connections.

”I’m a bit afraid...”

Li Qingde had figured it out. This kid had caught the leadership’s eye; bringing him over as an assistant was impossible now. Moreover, the kid was skilled and so young—his future was undeniably bright. He’d have to change his approach and focus on building a good relationship. That was the way forward.

”What are you afraid of? What is there to be afraid of? The title of President at the Health Clinic sounds impressive, but it’s just a stock-level cadre position. To put it nicely, it’s a cadre role; to put it bluntly, it doesn’t even get you in the door as an official. Look at those Section Chiefs or even Deputy Office heads who are under thirty. What do you have to fear?”

Li Qingde waved his hand grandly, exuding a magnanimous air. ”You have skills, qualifications, and you’re young. In a technically-oriented unit like the Health Clinic, what could possibly stump you? Besides, the Zhonghu Town Health Clinic isn’t that large. Personnel and finance are very straightforward. Even I, a technical school graduate, can manage it. You’re a university graduate; surely you can too?”

Du Heng didn’t quite understand why he had sought out Li Qingde, but after absorbing what felt like a bellyful of motivational talk, his mind felt much clearer.

Back in his car, Du Heng didn’t immediately drive back to his workplace. Instead, he called Dong Yuezhang again.

Dong Yuezhang, on the other end, was silent for a long moment, but he understood Du Heng’s promotion.

Promotion at a workplace depended not only on background but also on ability. Most importantly, it required someone’s appreciation. If someone appreciated you, nothing was an issue. If no one did, even if you performed miracles, no one would care. Du Heng had caught someone’s eye. That was fate; there was nothing to be done about it.

After a long pause, Dong Yuezhang asked, ”This is a good thing. What are you hesitating and feeling apprehensive for? Just go for it boldly. Brother, I support you.”

”But I just want to see more patients.”

”Are you dense? They’re making you President; that means your leaders think highly of you. Don’t be ungrateful. Besides, making you President doesn’t mean they’re revoking your professional practice physician qualification. Once you’re President, if you want to treat illnesses—who can stop you? You can treat patients in your Health Clinic, go into the villages to treat them, or even stop people on the street to treat them—who could possibly stop you? Are you out of your mind?”

That’s right. As President, I can see whomever I want, go wherever I want to see patients. Isn’t that all up to me?

But Du Heng was still uneasy. ”I don’t have any management experience. I’m afraid I won’t be able to manage the Health Clinic well.”

”Do you even need to manage it? An organization runs on inertia unless you want to implement reforms.”

”I don’t want to.”

”Then just let it run according to the existing model, keep a close eye on the finances, and make sure there are no economic problems. Your Health Clinic is incredibly simple. If there’s any problem you can’t handle, call me.”

”What do you think?” Du Heng, his mood gradually lightening, joked.

”My two cents? Piss off.”

Looking at the disconnected call, Du Heng chuckled, then stepped on the accelerator and headed towards the Health Clinic.

Why can’t I be President? Dong Yuezhang and I are the same age, and he’s already a Section Chief. What’s wrong with me being a stock-level President? What am I afraid of? Just do it!

However, despite all that, the organization still considered Du Heng too young. Therefore, the roles of President and Party Group Secretary, previously held by one person, were split. A Party Group Secretary was specifically assigned to Du Heng. However, this Secretary wouldn’t be appointed until the end of the month, after all staffing rotations and adjustments were finalized.

「In the Hospital room」

Wu Buwei had already brewed the medicine according to Du Heng’s instructions and was about to give it to Li Qiuhua.

”Stop!”

Zhang Jinlian stormed in, her face grim. ”Put that down!”

Wu Buwei was baffled. He looked at the bowl of medicine in his hand, then at Zhang Jinlian. ”Dr. Zhang, is something wrong?”

”How dare you give that to a patient to drink?”

”Is there a problem?”

”A problem? There’s a big problem!” Ignoring Wu Buwei, she turned to Li Qiuhua’s two sons. ”Do you two know what this medicine he’s giving your mother is made of?”

The two brothers were a bit confused. Who is this person?

Zhang Jinlian looked dead serious. ”You don’t, do you? This medicine is made from the placenta of a Woman in childbirth! He’s making your mother drink this. Isn’t that disgusting?”

The older son frowned. ”Who are you?”

”I’m Dr. Zhang, Department of Internal Medicine at the Health Clinic. I’ll ask again: do you know what medicine he’s giving your mother?”

”We know.”

Zhang Jinlian’s eyes flickered. ”You know, and you’re still letting her drink it? Aren’t you disgusted?”

The younger son grew impatient. ”Disgusting or not, what’s it to you?”

Seeing the brothers didn’t understand, Zhang Jinlian patiently explained, ”You might not be aware, but a placenta is what a Woman in childbirth...”

”Doctor Du asked me to buy that. How could I not know? Fine, what is it you want?” the younger son said, extremely impatient.

Wu Buwei also frowned. ”Dr. Zhang, if you have something to say, please say it. The medicine will get cold, and that won’t be good for its efficacy.”

Zhang Jinlian ignored Wu Buwei and stared at the younger son. ”You bought this? Doctor Du told you to buy it?”

The younger son looked at Zhang Jinlian as if she were an idiot. ”Are you crazy? If I didn’t buy it, was I supposed to magically produce one on the spot? That’s ridiculous!”

”Buying and selling human placenta is illegal! Do you realize you’re breaking the law?” Zhang Jinlian adopted a posture as if she were doing them a great favor and continued, ”But don’t worry. Doctor Du told you to buy it. If anyone investigates, you must tell the truth. It’s for your own good. Also, this medicine must not be drunk.”

Wu Buwei’s hand trembled slightly. ”Dr. Zhang, what are you implying?”

Zhang Jinlian sneered. ”What am I implying? You incited others to illegally buy and sell human placenta. That’s a crime! Just you wait, you’ll all end up in jail!”

”You’re full of shit! What law have I broken?” The younger son exploded with rage. If his older brother hadn’t held him back, he would have rushed forward to slap the woman.
