Chapter 1424: Chapter 1441: The Mystery of Xia Xiaonuan’s Origins 1

He thought of a face that was simple yet adorable.

His gaze softened somewhat, and he said, ”She is abroad, but I will definitely go find her one day.”

The girls exchanged glances, while Tang Yan picked up his guitar and book, gave the girls a smile, and left with flair.

Only a group of girls remained, staring at his departing figure with faces full of sadness.

After Xia Xiaonuan returned from Nanshan, Nangong Yaoling went to the company.

For several days in a row, she was busy promoting with the film crew, feeling as if she was reborn amidst her busyness. After all, past events had passed, and life always demands a fresh start.

As soon as this film wrapped up, Xia Xiaonuan’s agent received offers for two new films, arranged by her previous company, as Xia Xiaonuan’s status here, coupled with her past performance, easily caught the attention of directors upon debut.

However, Xia Xiaonuan thought this film had just ended, and she had promised Nangong Yaoling to rest for a while after filming it. Hence, she declined both offers.

That day, she had just finished attending a reception when she received an unexpected phone call; this call shattered all the peaceful beauty.

Although she was not the lead in this film, her identity still drew the attention of many reporters. A group of reporters finished discussing film-related questions before starting to indirectly inquire about Xia Xiaonuan and the Young Master’s relationship; sometimes insinuating about the previous ambiguous relationship between the Young Master and Yang Zi’er.

Yang Zi’er, standing to the side, turned pale, her dangling hands trembling slightly.

Obviously, as the lead, the prominence and attention of Xia Xiaonuan, the wealthy family’s young lady, completely overshadowed her.

Once, she was so glamorous when with the Young Master, but now without him, she seemed merely a pitiful abandoned mistress.

The director noticed this and, with a sheepish look, quickly changed the topic, claiming this time was to discuss the film, not private matters.

Only then did the reporters reluctantly cease questioning.

Barely managing to dismiss the reporters, Xia Xiaonuan was bumped from behind by Yang Zi’er when she returned backstage. She rubbed her shoulder, catching a whiff of strong perfume, and raised her eyes to see Yang Zi’er glaring at her with loathing.

She didn’t have a chance to speak before the phone on the nearby table rang.

It was an unfamiliar number, and she paused for a few seconds, walked out, and answered it in the hotel corridor.

Unexpectedly, the caller was Nangong Jinlie.

He wanted to meet her.

A slight sinking feeling swept through Xia Xiaonuan’s heart.

But she still braced herself and agreed, unable to refuse an elder’s invitation, especially since his health had just improved somewhat.

Xia Xiaonuan left the hotel, bought some fruit at the supermarket, and took a cab to the ancestral home.

The ancestral home remained unchanged; the servants hurried to open the door upon seeing her. The butler also came forward to greet her.

The old butler had the same indifferent expression, instructed the servants to take the fruit, and then said to Xia Xiaonuan, ”Young lady, the master is in the study upstairs.”

Xia Xiaonuan nodded, glanced at the staircase, which was brown with carved patterns, the varnish slightly peeling but still revealing its refinement and value, with traces of hidden age.

Just like a silent elder sitting there, witnessing the vicissitudes and changes of life.

The steps above were the wrinkles on the elder’s forehead.

Step by step, as she climbed the stairs, Xia Xiaonuan unconsciously felt cold sweat in her palms.
