The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

The more Madam thought about Song Zhiyuan’s words, the more she felt a deep discomfort in her heart, and her eyes began to turn red.

”Fang Mama, do you think I’ve disappointed him? He wouldn’t go looking for some understanding flower because of this, would he?” Madam said with reddened eyes.

Fang Mama helplessly replied, ”In my old opinion, it’s the Prime Minister’s good temperament over the years that has spoiled you, so your temperament remains like that of a young lady in the boudoir. You are already a grandmother, and here you are worried about your husband taking a concubine with old me? Let me say something bold, Madam, you are being overly sentimental.”

Madam turned pale: ”Mama!”

”Good Madam, even if you blame me and get so angry that you want to send me away to the estate, I would accept it, but I must say this: being sentimental in front of me is one thing, but you must not be this way in front of the Prime Minister or the Lady, as it undermines your dignity as the mistress of the house and makes you a laughingstock.”

Madam retorted: ”Do you not know who I am? I would never be so foolish.”

”I do know, that’s why I say this. Madam, being sentimental in front of me is not an issue, but I’m afraid you might ruin your good fortune, just as you were saying earlier. This year, the family rules state that men over forty without sons can take concubines. Would the Prime Minister ignore this rule? I see that the Prime Minister is quite restrained when it comes to women, and it’s unlikely for him to take a concubine, but one thing is clear: the Prime Minister is a sensible and aware person.”

Madam fell silent.

”The Prime Minister wouldn’t use taking a concubine to hurt you. He doesn’t need to use that as a means. If he truly wanted to distance himself from you, simply living separately would be the greatest punishment for you.”

Madam’s face turned pale.

Fang Mama sighed; among these two masters, Madam, as a woman, is more sentimental. The more sentimental one, like Madam Song Zhiyuan, is destined to value the other more.

While Song Zhiyuan is dedicated to his political affairs and would never be confused or entangled in romantic matters. If he were dissatisfied with Madam, why would he resort to something as low-level as taking a concubine?

There are many ways for a couple to grow distant, and taking a concubine isn’t the only obstacle.

Simply respecting her and not confiding in her is enough to crush Madam to the ground.

To speak ambivalently, Song Zhiyuan is truly a clear-headed man.

”So saying those words is just asking for ridicule, and spreading it around would make you a laughingstock.” Fang Mama continued: ”Back to earlier remarks, you are already of grandmother’s age and should possess the dignity and authority befitting of such. The demeanor of a young girl should be kept private and shown only to your husband in the boudoir.”

”It’s not that I’m overstepping; the higher your position, the more you’re living backwards. The higher one’s position, the more cautious one must be, because in this world, not everyone wishes you well; there are those eager to pull you down and trample over you, like me, the Steward Mama.”

Fang Mama chuckled self-deprecatingly: ”In this household, there are over a hundred servants. Do you think everyone wishes for my continuous success? Not at all, they too want to pull me down and take my place. To stay securely in this position, I have to constantly remind and warn myself to know my place, do my duties, and strive to maintain my position because if I’m not well, the household won’t be well either. The culture of following those in power is something I understand better than you do.”
