After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World

The group finished their registration and oaths a couple of minutes later. Whenever someone was done, they would head outside and wait there, sitting at the intact benches in the park. By visual estimate, about a quarter of the outdoor furniture was usable.

No park or open space was left unscathed. What a pity for the precious flowers and fruiting trees people loved. In fact, in the park next to the Center, there were some young people and even children crying in sadness.

Even if they did not lose a relative or a friend, they had a lot of memories in the park. A child even named a relatively big gouji tree they used to climb. Now, it was completely wrecked.

It was heartbreaking to see the kids crying over their dead ’friend’, but it is what it is.

Speaking of war damage, the Center was unsurprisingly targeted. Some people thought that a minister could be hiding here, so they checked. There wasn’t anyone here at the time though, and the damage was mostly the powerhouses punching walls and stuff in annoyance.

Fortunately, actually damaging system buildings would require a lot of energy. So the stupid ones who vented just wasted mana, while the others didn’t bother and left it alone.

Overall, the building itself suffered a number of cracked walls and broken windows, but it was fully functional, so there was no need to delay their tasks.

They also encountered scores of goblins coming from a perpendicular street, heading in the direction of the center.

There was a variety among them. Some were fleshy greens, while others were skin and bones.

”Wow, so many goblins!” Cotto exclaimed. He had also never seen such a fat green one! Like a ball!

”The ones leading, those wearing full clothes, are the Alterran goblins,” Gochi patiently explained. Baku naturally hadn’t explained too many details to them as they had just reunited, so they explained as they went.

The goblins were fully clothed, and all of them even had some customized defense equipment at the start of the war (though many had broken in the middle of it).

Sotto curiously took note of the fashion and then looked at his own suit. It looked boring now.

”They’re all entering the center as well?” he asked Gochi, the de facto guide. ”Oh, you mentioned all slaves would do oaths. Was this it?”

”Yes,” Gochi said. ”But they are probably buying freedom for them, too.”

”What?”

Gochi explained that Goblins had built a Foundation funded by all free goblins in Alterra. It was like an extra tax for them, but they were willing to give it.

This foundation owned the funds to buy the freedom of all goblins who were willing to follow their community, so here they were.

Goblins now had the industries they specialized in, after all, specifically the sculpting business and the mining business, so they were not poor at all.

Many of their works were also purchased by people from afar, and if their partner was honest, they could earn a lot.

Many visitors had also tried to copy this model, with them trying to get their own goblins to do these things, but these techniques were taught by Terran sculptors to the goblins, and it wasn’t easy to copy by intuition alone.

Such intricate work would need extra guidance, especially in this continent. In Xeno, people’s minds were not as flexible, so it was almost impossible to self-learn these things.

Not to mention, many green ones also gained a lot of contribution points during this time, and there were some goblins among the top 100. Specifically, the goblins responsible for finding the criel had been given a sizable amount of points.

With the guidance of powerful and smart friends like Linlin and Oslo, the green ones even managed to start their own business. They even hired several human accountants and managers!

Since the goblins paid well, not really caring about their own savings and profit as much, working for them was actually quite lucrative.

The goblins never, ever, would’ve imagined they could become bosses in their own right!

Of course, at the beginning, there were plenty of times they were bullied or oppressed. This was especially seen when they were dealing with aborigines. The bias was just too deep, and many merchants got offended that the goblins were even speaking on the same level as they were.

Many of these merchants weren’t evil people at heart; it was just that their worldviews had been shaped. Fortunately, they cared about their relationship with Alterra so there had been no violence. It was just a matter of time and getting used to things.

At first, Alterrans would always jump in to help the goblins whenever they were being bullied. Eventually, the goblins felt embarrassed at troubling everyone, and many even feared the humans could get tired of them if they kept bringing trouble.

In the end, many of the elder goblins matured and learned how to handle things on the same level as humans, and the adults also learned slowly as well.

They even asked to ’shadow’ some well-established merchants and traders to learn. Baron, for one, would often be seen with four or five green tails behind him.

Anyway, if there were goblins that adjusted the best, it was definitely the younger ones, where the old way of living had not been too ingrained.

Now, nearly two years of living in Alterra, the aura of local goblins—especially the first batch taken from then-Guia—was completely different from others.

To be frank, it was almost like they were different species.

There was a certain confidence in their eyes and a lightness in their gait that showed their inner selves. Standing side by side with the new rescues made the contrast even more obvious.

To summarize, the Alterran Goblins could indeed afford to free scores of goblins easily.

”Let’s wait for them,” Gochi said. It confused the others a bit until he explained.

”They have a neighborhood built for their...physiques,” he said. ”We hope to take you there. If you like it, you can stay; if not, we can find other places.”

The stark difference in sizes between races was quite troublesome in daily life. If the goblins ate in the human establishments, they might be carried up to sit on a high chair.

They didn’t mind it at first until they realized what the high chair was for, so they just got too embarrassed to continue doing so.

If goblins were like that, the dwarves would be even more so.

The four dwarves looked at each other and nodded. They weren’t in a rush. They were inherently slow, and their patience was the longest.

Once, an elder droned on for hours, and the others only fell asleep while ’patiently’ listening to each word he said.

About an hour later, the group of goblins emerged from the town center, startled to see orcs waiting for them! The newcomer goblins shivered. Were they going to be eaten!?

They had heard that orcs were scarier than beasts!

In contrast, the local goblins rushed over to greet them, some even directly climbed over Baku, to the surprise of the others.

A few saw unique bearded creatures toddling at the side. Their beady eyes widened. ”Oh?! Small humans! So tiny!”

”Eh, tiny humans are called babies,” another goblin said, correcting his uninformed roommate. ”And tiny humans are cute.”

He then gave the dwarves a look, tilting his head as if very confused. ”They’re not very cute.”

Dwarves: ”!!!!”

”We’re not humans!” the teen dwarves jumped over to say, their beards swinging in the movement. Their jump was a bit abrupt, and they ended up bumping into each other.

Fortunately, their balance was okay. Otherwise, they would’ve fallen like bowling pins.

Gochi bent down so he could talk with the goblins at eye level. ”These are our new friends,” he said, pointing at the dwarves. He had gotten familiar with the dwarves while waiting for the goblins to emerge earlier.

”This is Cotto, Sotto, Batto, and their guard Eckle,” he said. ”They are dwarves. Like you, they are quite unique and will have their own roles to play in Alterra. We hope you can be friends with them.”

One of the fastest ways to integrate foreigners was to place them with their brethren, especially those who were going through the same challenges. Dwarves didn’t have brethren here, so the goblins could be the closest kindred spirit for them.

On cue, the Alterran goblins surrounded the dwarves and started chattering. Nana’s children giggled and wanted to join in, so they really did.

Goblins were really, really good at handling babies because they had the most experience, and soon the babies were already hanging on to a goblin each.

Considering the orc babies were at least half the size of a grown goblin, the sight was quite funny.

At this time, another batch of slaves was heading to the Center to get their oaths, though in their case, it was so they could properly work as Prisoners of War, hoping to gain atonement points.

They saw half-orcs, goblins, and dwarves openly hanging out on the street, and they could not believe their eyes.

Did they suddenly change planets or something?
