After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World

There was another evacuation center in the tunnels, named Evacuation Center 001, and this was the one most goblins chose to hide in. This was the biggest and the most self-sustaining one. Naturally, it was also the best guarded.

Among the guards were also a lot of goblins. Except for those who went to help outside the walls, the rest were here.

Goblins leveled up far slower than other races, and they could even be said to have a level cap, with the oldest goblin there not remembering anyone of their race exceeding level 25.

There were also a the most human evacuees there, and many of them spent their time making crafts. They thought that if they couldn’t contribute by force, they could at least help with resources.

Do not underestimate their baskets! Everyone’s space was limited, and some bags were not suitable for bringing certain kinds of things.

People who have risen might’ve neglected these things, but for people who couldn’t fight as well, this could feed their families.

There were also smaller versions, used to organize the space! After all, their spaces were just a cube that was practically an open space and could get messy quickly. So, organizers made from crafts were also quite popular.

The tunnels was definitely one of the more comfortable evacuation centers because it was very self sufficient. It was cool and nice, it had its own vegetation, and so on.

The enemy forces may or may not attack their evacuation centers, depending on the enemy’s strategies, but each one was guarded by sentries and guards. Other than the bunkers, research centers, and so on, the evacuation center was the best guarded places in the interior circle.

However, there were those who took advantage of Alterra’s protectiveness, aiming to take hostages.

This was why, generally speaking, centers were far safer than allowing people below level 10 to just stay home, if they were not fighting or contributing to the fight. It was so much easier to kidnap people moving alone, after all, and people together were easier to guard and make alert if they encountered anomalies.

Unfortunately, for this war, the enemies really did not hold back and were using all strategies available, including taking hostages.

This was a relatively new thing in Xeno. After all, how many Lords would actually care enough about weaker citizens to compromise their strategy and their wallets?

As for interior sentries, those were also rare. Not many would have enough loose interior sentries to even be a threat, so there had been no need for people to specifically look for ’local meatshields’ after entering the walls.

While most of the tunnel was unaware, some conflicts were already brewing near one of the exits.

At this time, an Alterran looked panicked, trying to go out. ”Hey! What are you doing?” the guards yelled. But this man was a level 15 elementalist, and those remaining people there weren’t very strong. Only the tunnels actually had two guards inside, and they definitely weren’t powerhouses either.

BANG!

”Hey!”

”Move back! Move back!”

”Why do you do this?”

”Enemies! There are enemies!” he gasped, looking behind him, looking at the befuddled people watching him in terror.

It was then that the guards, who had been pushed away, realized what was going on.

”He’s controlled!” he yelled. The guard team had naturally been debriefed about the new threat that appeared.

”Damn it!”

The guards immediately rushed to the fire elementalist, aiming to make him lose consciousness at least!

The challenge here was that ’controlled’ people were similar to slaves—they could tap to their maximum potential! So, this man was definitely stronger than the usual fire elementalist his level!

The man was desperately trying to get outside. ”The enemies are inside! Let’s go out! Let’s go out!”

He raised his hand and then threw a smoke bomb inside!

Smoke bombs weren’t difficult to make. However, if one contained flammable materials, when a person added fire—it would also ignite!

”KYAAAA!”

People screamed as a large burst of fire spread out. The tunnel was enclosed, so this was dangerous!

The people immediately headed to the alternative exits, opening the gates!

”Don’t!” the guards, who were busy defending against scores of enemies stronger than them, yelled. ”It’s dangerous out here!”

”Our evacuation center has flitration system! Don’t go out! Just cover your mouths!”

Most of the people who heard this calmed down, immediately standing aside while covering their noses.

However, who’d have thought that there were still plenty of disobedient ones? Some directly pulling others outside?!

What followed was a small tragedy, where dozens of people rushing out were quickly lifted up and hit. Whether they were unconscious or dead did not matter; they were shields to be used.

This group of people was heading to the Research Center, which had an abnormal number of loose sentries guarding it!

”Let them go!!”

”Damn it!!”

But what could they do when they were overpowered? They were already doing very well keeping their lives!

Before the doors opened, not every one of the enemies was making moves. They were all waiting for the doors to open, ready to ’grab the goods!’

The guards’ hearts dropped. Their heart was bleeding like every part of their bodies was.

They could only watch as the enemy took away their brethren so helplessly!

”KYAAAA!”

”NO! PLEASE! HELP ME!”

”AHHHHH!”

Angelo did his best to shoot down the enemies, but the enemy equipment was good, and there was a level gap.

How useless he was!

And then...his eyes lost their luster, and the faces of the people in front of him blurred.

...

Watching brethren get kidnapped right in front of their eyes was one thing, but worse, some guards suddenly turned around and attacked their own allies!

”WHAT!”

”HEY!”

There were not many, but they were enough to already ruin the weakening formation of the guards, causing several to fall, life and death unknown.

”Traitor! Traitor!” they screamed with angry looks on their faces, convinced that they were the ones helping the enemies!

The enemies even had fun and stopped attacking the guards, watching the Alterrans fight against each other.

BAM!

SLAM!

”AHHH!”

”Cousin! Get it together!”

”ANGELO! STOP IT!”

Jesse screamed, running away and creating a fire shield for himself.

Who’d have thought the man would use one of his penetrative skills?

He looked at his best friend in disbelief and then blankly at the arrow in his chest.
