One-Eyed Monster

Grand Master Guzan struggled to maintain his consciousness.

The young can be formidable, he thought. He had felt this more than once.

Although his opponent was merely a consciousness, its intimidating aura was hardly inferior to his own. Moreover, Master Guzan could also sense the vast power behind it.

Perhaps the world truly was changing.

However, he still couldn’t agree with what the Black Crow leader had said. The world has its own rhythms and won’t change due to any individual’s dissatisfaction. What is meant to be will eventually be; what hasn’t happened yet simply means the time is not ripe.

Sometimes, people are also like that. Excessive pursuit of a certain state can lead one astray, to the point where they can no longer even find themselves.

Master Guzan felt the Black Crow leader before him was somewhat too extreme. His ideal might be noble—to create a Great Harmony World, free of disputes and secrets, where everyone treats each other with sincerity. But would a world without differences truly be good? Would everything really be as transparent as he envisioned, allowing everyone to live in harmony?

Perhaps that wasn’t so.

This world has its own rhythms; when to erupt and when to exercise forbearance are all part of its own operations.

One might discern patterns within it, yet sometimes no patterns can be found. Regardless, it is the myriad differences that make this world so fascinating.

Differences are the markers of self-awareness and the symbols by which individuals distinguish themselves from others.

A world without differences might be wonderful, but Master Guzan always felt such a world would be missing something.

Unconsciously, Master Guzan thought of his disciple, Kuyi Tulan. That child was also pursuing a power devoid of differences, wasn’t he? Could it be that his ultimate dream is also to create a Great Harmony World?

This association made Guzan shudder. He dared not even entertain the thought of such a Great Harmony World.

”Would the world truly be better if it lost all differences?” Master Guzan already had the answer in his heart, but he still wanted to ask and hear the Black Crow leader’s reply.

He wanted to hear something he longed for from it, though he himself didn’t know what he wanted to obtain.

He had experienced this feeling once before. That time, it was Igor who had evoked it, and Igor had also given him a very beautiful memory.

”We want to change this world so that it will not forsake upright individuals because of these differences.”

”’Upright people, being forsaken?’” The Great Mentor was puzzled, wondering what this forsaking of upright people truly referred to.

”You probably don’t know that many people, due to their birth, are directly categorized as Non-Adventurers. These Non-Adventurers are born to serve Adventurers with Class. Is any of this fair?”

Grand Master Guzan knew such situations were indeed unfair, but there are no absolutes in the world.

Isn’t Kuyi Tulan a prime example? He was originally meant to become a blacksmith, but didn’t he change himself under the Great Mentor’s insistence?

In the end, didn’t Kuyi Tulan also grow to become the chief of the Alchemy Workshop? So, sometimes, changing the entire status quo still relies on their own efforts...

He was thinking a bit too much, straying somewhat from the essence of the question.

”We came here not merely to obtain power. After obtaining power, we must also change the entire world,” Willem continued, laying out his grand vision. ”The establishment of a Great Harmony World must be accompanied by sacrifice; it requires advancing step by step. We must overthrow all the old powers and allow the new world to slowly be built.”

Master Guzan was somewhat stunned. He didn’t quite understand what this Willem truly wanted to do, but he could discern the ambition in the man.

To eliminate the old powers and establish a Great Harmony World—this was a declaration of war against the entire existing world.

”Is this your ultimate goal then? To obtain this power?”

”If I weren’t completely sure, I wouldn’t have come here. I said this much earlier,” Willem’s tone was placid, as if success was already in hand.

Grand Master Guzan shook his head. Although he was the guardian here, he could also feel that he was already out of his depth. Though the opponent was but a consciousness, that powerful strength was nevertheless evident.

”You need not feel anxious. All of this is quite normal. Just as darkness arrives silently and without a trace, our arrival is also an inevitability.”

”No, I do not feel anxious. You can probably sense it too; my current state is no match for you. I still need to care for these ’children.’”

”You are a great person, and a generous one. The establishment of the Great Harmony World will include your name.”

”There’s no need. In these past few days, the words of a young friend have given me a new understanding. This constantly changing world ultimately belongs to the young people. Those ancient things will eventually be unearthed too. Judging right from wrong is not for us old folks, but for the youth of the future.”

”They will remember your efforts and admire your understanding.” Willem stood up, his black-clothed form suddenly transforming into a wisp of smoke that drifted towards Twin Peaks.

The Great Mentor watched this ambitious fellow slowly fly towards Twin Peaks and sighed once more.

Perhaps this was a difficult choice for him, but it was also a choice he did not regret.

He knew the secrets of Guru Mountain like the back of his hand.

The scroll sealed in Guru Mountain contained a Magic that connected to the Eternal Tranquility Realm. This Magic could recall the departed souls from the Eternal Tranquility Realm back to the world of the living.

Compared to summoning skeleton soldiers and Undead Soldiers, this type of summoning was far too vicious, for this Magic summoned beings with consciousness. To control these conscious beings, one must undoubtedly possess extraordinary power.

A part of the scroll sealed in Guru Mountain described precisely this.

As for the other part of its contents, Master Guzan still couldn’t understand it even now. That part of the scroll seemed to describe awakening something, but though Master Guzan had tried several times, there was no effect whatsoever.

These were the two main contents of the sealed scroll, both concerning extraordinary powers.

This secret was about to be unveiled, and no one could stop it.

However, Master Guzan felt no regret, nor the guilt of having failed his guardianship.

Secrets cannot be hidden forever. The soon-to-be-unveiled secret will inform everyone...

The reason the Great Mentor felt such relief was because he believed he had bet correctly on the future.

The appearance of sunlight made him very happy, for this proved that the entire Moonflow Stream was out of danger.

As for these unveiled secrets, let those who come after decide for themselves whether they bring fortune or disaster.

One must have confidence in the future.

Master Guzan recalled Igor’s words; that young man was his confidence.

With such young people around, this world will ultimately have hope.

Grand Master Guzan sighed. He knew he could only maintain this state for a short while longer; his consciousness would soon return to his body along the path it came...
