Ascension from Dual Professions

Chapter 250: Chapter 238: ”Yino’s” Request, Another Legendary Quest

While this talent seemed somewhat unremarkable compared to the previous options, leaning more toward defense than the high-damage output favored by most players, to Jon, it was the strongest talent a Mage could choose at the Official Level!

This was because he had the [Heart of Balance], and with items like the [Mark of Bountiful Echoes], [Blood of the Earth], and [Sunlight Talisman] boosting his Life and Magic Recovery Bonus, he had already begun to create a ”meter-running-backward” effect.

The addition of [Heart of Convergence] was another crucial component for this ”meter-running-backward” system—an extra, solid safeguard independent of the damage reduction from skills and equipment!

First, when he took damage from an enemy, 30% of it would be negated by consuming his Magic Power Value. Then, the effect of his Heart of Balance would instantly restore the consumed Magic Power, bringing it back to the same level as his Life Value. This meant he wouldn’t have to worry about taking too much damage and running out of mana.

At the same time, Heart of Convergence would also generate a free Convergence Shield that provided a large boost to his Magic Strength!

With a permanent 30% damage reduction, a free Shield, and a boost to his Magic Strength, both his survivability and his ability to clash directly with enemies would be massively enhanced.

Anyone who wanted to kill him would have to overcome incredible odds!

So, there was no reason to hesitate.

Upon receiving the talent, Jon immediately chose to integrate it into his body.

As the talent Rune for Heart of Convergence fully merged into the depths of his soul, an unprecedented sense of harmony flowed through him.

His Magic Power and Life Force seemed to form a tighter cycle. He could clearly perceive the invisible ”buffer zone” between them—the very Domain where the power of convergence took effect. It was enough to first convert any incoming damage into a tremor of Magic Power, which was then swiftly pacified by his [Heart of Balance], all while constructing a solid Shield to bolster his defenses.

This perfect, closed loop of ”meter-running-backward” was the cornerstone of his path to mastering Dual Professions.

Just as he was savoring the power from his new talent, the brilliant, starry Illusion Realm around him began to fade and dissipate. At that moment, an indescribable, gentle female voice—one that seemed to be the resonance of countless worldly strings—suddenly echoed directly in the core of his soul.

”Traveler from the Otherworld...”

The voice was ethereal and faint, yet it carried a bone-deep weariness and an ineffable urgency, as if it were struggling to reach him from some impossibly distant shore.

”I implore you... listen to my request...”

Jon froze, the hair on his arms standing on end instantly!

Once bitten, twice shy. After his harrowing experience with the giant eye in the stars and the prophecy of Destiny, he was instinctively wary of any voice from a being that defied common sense.

He instantly became hyper-vigilant, constructing layers of defenses on a spiritual level.

However, the attack he expected never came. The gentle female voice seemed to only want to convey a message.

”...Go... save...”

But after uttering just that single, vague syllable, her voice faded rapidly, like a candle in the wind, and the rest of her words were cut off completely.

At the same time, the last wisp of the starlight illusion vanished completely, and Jon’s consciousness snapped back to reality.

He was still sitting in his room, the winter morning light spilling in through the window.

Yet this did nothing to ease his tension.

”—!”

’What was that? An illusion? Or...?’

Jon’s heart was still pounding in his chest, and cold sweat had nearly soaked through his shirt.

While he was still reeling from the shock, a line of text appeared clearly on his system panel. It emanated a vast, ancient aura and shone with a dark golden luster, carrying an unprecedented sense of weight.

—

[Luck and Misfortune (Legendary Level · Unique Quest)]

[The threads of Destiny are entangled. The golden thread of luck is shrouded by the gloom of misfortune. The ancient mother goddess’s call pierces the barriers of time and space, carrying a faint plea for help to you.]

[Quest Objective: Save the imperiled Goddess of Luck, Phoebe.]

[Basic Reward: ???]

”Note: Once you are fully prepared, go to the Divine Hall of the Goddess of Luck and seek her guidance.”

—

”Save... the Goddess of Luck? Phoebe?!”

Jon stared intently at the unbelievable text on the quest panel. Every word felt like a sledgehammer smashing against his understanding of the world.

A colossal sense of absurdity and a pressure even heavier than before washed over him like an icy tide, threatening to drown him.

’Asking a mortal who just recently reached the Official Level to save a goddess who holds dominion over the world?’

’This is completely preposterous!’

However, the voice that had spoken directly to his soul, the Legendary Level quest tag, and the ”mother goddess” mentioned in the description...

It all pointed to one undeniable fact: the gentle female voice that had nearly frozen his soul belonged to the Creation Goddess, Yino!

As someone who knew the ”lore” of this world, Jon was well aware that the existing Deities—including Phoebe, the Goddess of Luck, who was said in legend to preside over the unpredictable whims of fortune—were all children of the Creation Goddess, Yino.

For this mother of creation to cross endless time and space, expending immense power just to send such an urgent, incomplete plea for help to a ”traveler from the Otherworld”...

The crisis facing the goddess Phoebe had to be far beyond anything imaginable!

’You’ve got to be kidding me...’

Jon muttered to himself, his fingers clenching unconsciously as his mind began to frantically race, trying to recall everything he knew about the Goddess of Luck.

’I remember she was doing fine... Didn’t tons of players who were gambling fiends join her faith?’

’She could still respond to prayers, couldn’t she? Why would she need to be saved?’

Even he, out of some superstitious belief, had laid out the goddess’s Divine Emblem and prayed to her when he was drawing for Skills, and had ended up getting the Perfect Level Inscription, [Multiple Projections].

Whether that was due to sheer luck or the goddess’s favor, he couldn’t say.

But it at least proved that the goddess’s condition was no different from that of the other Deities; the Law she controlled was still functioning normally.

Moreover, right up until he crossed over into this world, this mischievous goddess—said to be lively and fond of pranks—hadn’t caused any major incidents.

’So how did she fall so far that her own mother had to ask me for help?’

’Wait a minute...’

As his mind raced, a piece of information he had once glimpsed surfaced from the depths of his memory.

’I remember... the Goddess of Luck, Phoebe, is the sister of the God of Destiny, Wyatt, isn’t she?’

’Could this... have been part of the plan all along?’

Jon narrowed his eyes, his gaze fixed on the exquisitely patterned ceiling as he muttered to himself.

”Wyatt... you bastard... what in the world have you done...”
