Ascension from Dual Professions

Chapter 80: Chapter 80: Soulless Evil Skill, No Martial Virtue

Divine Technique and Evil Magic. Though only a word apart, they were as different as heaven and Hell!

The former was directed toward the Deities. While it came with many rules and required faith, it was generally harmless.

The latter, however, was directed toward ancient, malevolent beings. These terrifying entities never hesitated to bestow Power, so long as you offered them enough chaos!

And for that very reason, Evil Magic could often unleash Power far beyond common sense!

In the time it took to speak, the members of the Blood Eye Association had already charged the formation. Only now did those wreathed in white mist break from the crowd and take their place at the very front!

Everyone finally got a clear look at their horrifying appearance—their flesh was unnaturally twisted and bloated, the whites of their eyes were showing, and wisps of mist trickled from their mouths, noses, and ears. The sight was enough to make one’s skin crawl!

Seeing this, the guard squad leader shouted an urgent command.

”Ready the Flying Axes!”

”Yes, sir!”

”Throw!”

”Hah—!”

The guards’ well-honed throwing skills were pushed to their limit under the immense threat, and the volley of Flying Axes yielded impressive results.

The few mist-wreathed ambushers at the front, targeted by the concentrated fire, were instantly battered into a bloody pulp, unable to get any closer.

At that moment, Joyina’s Divine Technique was completed. A cool, bright light spread out, clearing everyone’s minds.

The Priest also offered an urgent warning.

”Everyone, be careful! This is the Soulless Evil Skill! Don’t let the white mist touch you! Otherwise—”

”AARGH—”

Before she could finish, one of the ambushers who had already fallen shrieked and shot up from the ground in a bizarre posture, lunging toward the edge of the formation!

The white mist coiling around him spread out as well, about to engulf several guards over there!

Just then, a dark glint of light flashed, shooting straight into the creature’s head with a soft thump!

With its central nervous system destroyed, the twisted creature of flesh and blood naturally could no longer move.

The still-shaken guards instinctively turned to look in the direction the dark light had come from.

It was Jon.

He lowered his arm and gave a cold reminder.

”Don’t look at me. Watch the enemy!”

”Yes, sir!”

After that encounter, it went without saying that everyone now understood how bizarre and difficult these enemies were. Each one of them became extremely vigilant.

After saving those men, Jon no longer paid attention to the defensive lines on either side of the carriage. Instead, he cast his gaze further into the distance.

With two consecutive assaults thwarted, the Blood Eye Association had already left behind quite a few bodies. The threat had been further reduced. If the Official Level combatant hiding behind the scenes was still determined, it was about time for them to make a move!

’Where could they be hiding...’

Just as he was surveying several suitable spots for an assault, a sudden cry of alarm came from behind him!

”Evans! Watch out!”

Jon’s heart skipped a beat. His first instinct was to turn and look, but his reason stopped him.

’An attack from behind? Is Evans that easy to deal with?’

’Normally, they should be trying to break through my position, right?’

’So, this is most likely a feint!’

These thoughts flashed through his mind in an instant. Jon silently tightened his grip on his sword, his body tensing. He began to turn his head back at a pace that was neither fast nor slow, as if he were actually looking to see what was happening behind him.

In the next instant, his ears picked up a faint, soft sound rapidly approaching amidst the din!

’Hmph? A sneak attack!?’

The outlander sneered inwardly and suddenly activated [Dragon Flame Dance]!

In the next moment, just as he was turning toward the rear of the carriage, he twisted his body and swung his sword back. Blazing firelight spread from his arm to the sword in his hand, sweeping out like the tail of a Giant Dragon to cover a wide area!

[Dragon Tail Sweep]!

The attacker had clearly not expected such a development!

Previously, when they saw this tall, sturdy guard use a counter-attack Skill without killing many people, he and his companion had judged him to be a Soldier-level Professional who specialized in defense, not offense.

So, the two of them had devised a plan. His companion would create a diversion to draw the guard’s attention, allowing him to launch a sneak attack for a quick kill. Afterward, he would rush into the carriage and take Reya Xavier’s life.

But this guy had actually been hiding his strength!?

Not only did he not fall for the trick, he turned it against them with a counter-attack!?

Judging by the power of this sword strike and this blazing Battle Qi, he was no ordinary Warrior!

’What a devious bastard!’

The attacker grit his teeth in silent rage, but his forward momentum was unstoppable. He could only cross the twin swords that had been aimed at the man’s back, attempting to block the blow and then figure out his next move.

Unfortunately, there was no way he could have imagined what kind of Power Jon’s sword strike truly contained.

[Dragon Tail Sweep] was a move that imitated the swipe of a Giant Dragon’s tail. Moreover, Jon had the element of surprise, launching his premeditated strike from a back-turned stance to unleash the move’s power to its absolute maximum!

And that was to say nothing of [Dragon Flame Dance]—a Perfect Level Skill, a Power that over 90% of the world’s Professionals could never hope to master in their lifetime!

The blade swept across, blazing with fiery light!

The flames, still scattered as the sword swung, suddenly coalesced into a thick, pillar-like dragon’s tail and slammed viciously into the attacker under his gaze of absolute terror!

[-542 (Critical! Penetration! Knockback!) -45 (Flame Damage)]!

A single strike, dealing close to 600 damage!

The immense Penetration and knockback effect sent the attacker flying as if he were a baseball being struck by a bat!

He was sent back even faster than he had arrived!

The short figure truly did fly like a baseball, smashing into a nearby residence and kicking up a cloud of dust and debris!

Because most people’s attention was focused on Evans at the rear of the carriage, it wasn’t until the ephemeral, fiery dragon tail by Jon had dissipated that anyone realized what a swift and violent collision had just occurred at the front!

And at almost the same time, a deafening roar erupted from Evans’s position!

The association’s head of security stood firm as a boulder, his two-handed sword cleaving down toward the ground. A thick, earth-yellow blade of light tore through the snow, shooting straight forward!

It was none other than his signature move, [Rock-cutting Sword]!

Wherever the blade of light passed, the road cracked and the snow vaporized. The violent shockwave forcefully knocked back the tall, heavily armored Warrior who had drawn everyone’s attention by several meters.

The Warrior spat blood and staggered back, but then he performed an undignified roll on the ground, abandoned his comrades, and fled immediately!

At this moment, all the Knight Level combatants among the ambushers had been defeated. The survivors who weren’t dead were wailing in agony, and no one was left to organize an effective attack.

It was safe to say that their assassination plot was a complete failure!

However, Jon and his group did not relax in the slightest.

Neither he nor Evans had any intention of pursuing the enemy. Instead, they ordered the guards to tighten their formation!

The greatest threat had yet to show itself!

The Evil Mage was still hiding somewhere!

Just as Jon and Evans were scanning the snow-swept streets as if facing a great enemy, and as Joyina’s prayer of Purification enveloped the twisted, smoking corpses of the Soulless—the situation suddenly took a strange turn!
