Ascension from Dual Professions

Chapter 79: Chapter 79: Righteous Counterattack

What kind of destruction could a full-power strike from an Official Level Warrior cause?

Evans’s sword strike provided the answer.

The small, two-story house, struck by his sword from over ten meters away, had mostly collapsed. Even if the archers hiding inside weren’t dead, they wouldn’t be a threat again anytime soon.

Seeing their ambush had failed, the attackers immediately moved on to the next phase.

The rhythm of the arrow volleys from both sides of the street slowed. Vague white figures began to surge forward, closing in rapidly like a silent, spreading cold front in the snowy weather.

Jon watched all this coldly, his expression unchanging.

With their preparations, as long as they survived the first, most lethal wave of the ambush, the greatest remaining threat would be an attack by multiple Official Level Professionals. Until then, these grunts wouldn’t have a chance to break through their defenses.

So, after a quick glance at the number of white-cloaked figures surrounding them, he turned to the cloaked person behind him whose face was concealed.

”Lady Joyina, I’ll leave the guards in your care!”

”Rest assured. My lord does not tolerate such vile acts. I shall be with you.”

A serious reply came from beneath the cloak. Then, she spread her arms, and a pure white Aura radiated out from her, enveloping all the guards!

[Divine Technique: Sun Guardian]!

A perfectly round, golden Shield lit up on everyone in unison. After flashing once like a reflection, it became as transparent as a bubble.

It looked like it would pop at the slightest touch, but in reality, it was unshakable!

[Sun Guardian LV.5: Gain a 1500-point regenerating Sun Shield. Damage taken is reduced by 15%. Time remaining: 14m 59s]

This was the tripled value Jon saw on his status bar. In reality, the effect on the guards should be a 500-point Shield, a 5% damage reduction, and a 5-minute duration.

Still, that number wasn’t small. Some Professionals who didn’t focus on Constitution wouldn’t have much more health than that even at the Official Level, and a 5% damage reduction could be the difference between life and death at a critical moment!

With this layer of protection, the risk of the guards accidentally dying in combat was reduced to almost zero!

And just as the convoy’s defenders braced themselves, the white-cloaked enemies charged forward under the cover of arrows!

These people were clearly well-trained. They didn’t just swarm forward but advanced in small, coordinated units, their long and short weapons complementing each other in a disciplined manner.

They barely engaged with the guards on the sides of the carriages, instead concentrating their forces on the front and rear of the convoy, trying to break through at those two points.

Seeing this, Evans immediately moved to the rear, while Jon, guarding the front, was also a primary target!

Before the Sword and Shield attackers could even get close, gleaming spear tips were already thrusting at him!

”Heh...”

Jon neither dodged nor retreated. He stood, drew his sword, and took a two-handed stance with the blade pointing upward.

As the spear tips reached him, the [Sun Guardian] Shield, which had looked as fragile as a bubble, suddenly flared with light, enveloping Jon completely like a golden ring!

A 1500-point Shield Value—even an Official Level Berserker would have to use an ultimate move to break through it. The attacks from these Apprentice Level grunts were like tickles!

-49 (Shield mitigation!)

-37, -52...

But that wasn’t the only reason Jon didn’t dodge.

After the volley of thrusts, the golden light surrounding him began to shift, coalescing into thorn-like spikes of light!

This was the ”Justice Domain” Skill he had won from a lottery after a previous mission—[Righteous Counterattack]!

——

[Righteous Counterattack LV.1 (Excellent): Consumes 10 Qi Value and 10 Willpower to enter the ”Counterattack Preparation” state. During this state, damage taken is reduced by 10%. After ”Counterattack Preparation” ends, the damage taken during the state is converted into light to counterattack enemies within a certain range, dealing 50% Light Attribute damage. Cooldown: 15 seconds.]

——

This was a typical Saint Knight Skill, and an excellent one at that.

It took physical damage but counterattacked with Light Attribute damage!

One had to understand that without any Light Attribute Resistance, the power of light could almost be considered true damage!

This was one of the reasons why Saint Professionals of the Solar Domain were so formidable.

The damage wasn’t particularly high, but it sure hurt!

Normally, a Warrior like Jon shouldn’t be able to use this Skill.

But perhaps it was due to Po Ao’s blessing, or perhaps the lines between the Skills of different Professions weren’t as clear-cut in reality. Jon used it as proficiently as any of his other Skills.

Once a certain number of light spikes had gathered around him, Jon swung his sword!

The spikes shot out, piercing through all shields and Armor without resistance, stabbing into the attackers’ bodies and leaving behind penetrating wounds!

-120 (Penetration)!

-94 (Penetration)...

”Ah! That hurts!”

”What was that!?”

In an instant, the circle of people around Jon collapsed to the ground, wailing in agony!

The damage wasn’t high, and basically no one died, but the sight of him felling a group of people without even making a move was incredibly intimidating!

The attackers who had been charging forward so aggressively couldn’t help but stop in their tracks!

Seeing this, Jon lowered his sword, glanced around disdainfully, and barked in a loud voice.

”A bunch of sewer rats! Come and get it if you’ve got the guts!”

For a moment, no one answered!

Meanwhile, at the rear of the convoy, Evans wasn’t as flashy or eye-catching as Jon, but as an Official Level Professional, his results were just as astonishing.

Any enemy who dared approach within his striking range was cut down on the spot. Bright crimson spread across the snow!

This battlefield advantage was a huge morale boost for the people from the trading post!

The guards on the sides of the carriages, who had been feeling aggrieved after being peppered with arrows, took advantage of the lull to start hurling insults.

”You bastards! The toys in your hands aren’t even as hard as my cock!”

”You’re wrong! These cowards who don’t dare show their faces are probably eunuchs from god-knows-where. Of course they’re weak in the limbs!”

”Our two lords barely made a move and they’ve all gone limp! Haha~~”

Taunted like this, the members of the Blood Eye Association, who saw themselves as upholding a noble cause, were instantly enraged and charged forward again, shouting curses.

However, in the process, some of them began to show clear abnormalities.

Wisps of white mist started to rise from their bodies, barely noticeable under their white cloaks and the cover of their teammates.

But Jon’s experience fighting all sorts of enemies was vast.

Seeing this and considering the enemy’s background, he immediately guessed what trick they were about to play and shouted a loud warning!

”Don’t let them get close! It’s Evil Magic!”

Hearing Jon’s warning, everyone tensed. In this day and age, how could anyone who had spent time in the Northern Territory not know the horrors of Evil Magic?!

The guards all tightened their grips on their shields, preparing to push the enemy back. Hidden behind the shield wall, Joyina’s brow furrowed as she began to chant a Divine Technique.

As a Saint Professional, she knew better than anyone the power and danger of Evil Magic!
