Our Family Has Fallen

Grendel couldn’t help but look at Lance when she heard this, but then she thought, this was indeed something he would do.

”How is she being handled?”

”What do you mean, ’handled’? We’re not anyone’s babysitter. Hamlet is so big, and I didn’t stop her. What she wants to do has nothing to do with me.”

What value does an ordinary person have? Whether to go or stay is up to them; he couldn’t be bothered.

Grendel was somewhat amused by this remark; this guy is simply lazy in such matters.

However, she agreed to it and softly said, ”Alright~”

Lance ultimately didn’t bring up deploying troops to recapture other places in Hamlet.

Because he lacked the capability!

Let’s not mention the large-scale operation being prepared, which is about whether they can annihilate the cultists in the wilderness in one move and approach the Old City Ruins to cut off their connections with the outside world.

Also, right now, the town has a bunch of captives to manage, and the refugees shouldn’t be presumed to be obedient. It requires quite some time to integrate them.

Before this, the army is also needed. Although not for direct suppression, as long as they are present, the troublemakers won’t dare to act.

But since things have come to this, let’s have dinner first.

Susan quickly brought breakfast, several soft and sweet white loaves, a basket of boiled eggs, and a pot of milk.

Though plentiful, it somewhat bears simplicity for a Noble Lord.

Grendel on the side handed over a peeled egg, but Lance suddenly grabbed her hand and stared at it.

It’s hard to imagine how she maintains such good condition with daily contact with medicinal herbs, even a boiled egg couldn’t match her smooth and creamy skin; her fingers still resemble tender green onions.

”What’s the matter~” Grendel let him hold her hand, with a slight smile on her face.

”I’m wondering about skincare products.”

Lance is well aware there is no such thing as an easy profit from women and children’s money; each product needs precise targeting to establish its audience.

That Ascension Potion targets wealthy middle-aged people, and it is indeed profitable.

And if he could create effective skincare products, maybe he could capitalize on women’s concerns?

Lance felt there was no issue with this. If men’s obsessions revolve around simple things, then women’s obsessions are about aging appearances.

But Grendel was speechless upon hearing this and withdrew her hand, glancing at him.

This is what you’re thinking about now?

”Eat your egg!” Grendel handed over an egg.

”Eat yours.” Lance was utterly indifferent, smiling as he moved closer...

Ultimately, Lance didn’t get to eat the main course, because priorities matter.

”So what do you plan on doing now? Negotiating a ransom with them?”

”No rush, let’s starve them for a few days first,” Lance seriously said when it came to business, ”Now let’s deal with the refugees, prepare supplies for the operation; we don’t have time to waste.”

Suddenly remembering something, Lance asked another question.

”How are the leprosy patients doing?”

”There hasn’t been significant improvement recently, but the good news is there hasn’t been further deterioration either. More detailed reports are with Paracelsus.”

”What about Baldwin?” Lance mentioned a name.

Grendel knew Lance wouldn’t mention this casually; if it was prioritized over other matters, it must be more important.

”Why bring this up suddenly?”

”Because he’s a living Legend.”

Lance would act on whatever came to mind because time was truly pressing.

After breakfast, Lance headed to a tent re-isolated to prevent infection, where Baldwin had been waiting for several days.

”I’ve found the necessary materials and prepared the final Potion; ready for the last part of the treatment process,” Lance spoke straightly without any waste, while also involuntarily observing Baldwin, who hadn’t been seen for nearly ten days.

Simple clothes covered his body, a timeless mask on his face, holding that broken Great Sword as if performing some rehabilitation exercises.

Though leprosy bacteria had been cleared, the traces left by leprosy on him hadn’t vanished; beneath the exposed skin were still festering and scorched scars, affecting vision, hearing, respiratory tract, and possibly nerves.

But none of this could hinder him from perceiving Lance’s arrival, nor suppress the excitement and even slight unease within.

He thought he would remain calm, but he was uncontrollably tense.

”It’s unknown how many sessions are needed for complete recovery; this depends on your individual healing, but believe in yourself and Hamlet’s doctors.”

With that, Lance handed over a bottle of transparent Potion.

Having reached this day, Baldwin had no reason to refuse, accepted the Potion, and drank it in one go, immediately sensing a strange sensation in his body.

Unlike the previous reduced pain, instead, a stronger intensity of pain continuously struck his brain.

Yet this was a good thing for Baldwin, without any weird hobbies.

Rather, the areas this pain came from were not intestines, but skin that had long lost sensation; he didn’t think he’d ever feel this again...

Perhaps these days of waiting had made him doubt, question whether this was his limit, wishing to recover to a state before the disease seemed impossible.

He had repeatedly constructed psychological fortresses, telling himself this was the best outcome.

But sometimes losing isn’t frightening, what’s terrifying is seeing hope, then losing it again.

He thought he could let all this go... just thought...

But now the facts told him, miracles always exist in Hamlet.

You can always believe in the Lord!

Such injuries, in a typical worldview, would be difficult to deal with, exceeding the limits of human self-healing, even surgery might not work.

Yet in a world manifesting mystical Extraordinary Power, Lance slightly performed the Flesh Reconstruction, healing his necrotic parts.

Baldwin’s luck was living in such a world, and luckier still to meet Lance who wields Power of Flesh and Blood.

However, Lance didn’t intend to cure him all at once, at least not now, as too easy could make such emotions too fragile.

After recovery, this would also urge Lance to treat the other leprosy patients, but the problem is that this treatment method isn’t replicable.

Not everyone has Baldwin’s physical foundation, so continuing to search for gentler treatment plans is reasonable.

The Potion’s effects soon gradually waned, leaving Baldwin only the pain sensation on his body as evidence it wasn’t an illusion.

”Now, through isolation, it’s basically confirmed the virus in your body is eradicated; you can leave here and care for those patients, but do take precautions to avoid reinfection.”

Lance needed a channel to bring hope to those suffering from leprosy; none was more fitting than Baldwin.

This leprosy mission destined to be a long drawn-out battle, liberating Baldwin’s elite combat power requires some opportunity.

But not now...

Lance left there, as there were too many matters in town drawing his attention.

Originally intending to check on the refugee process, see if he could draw some SSR.

But upon arriving there, he saw several corpses cleared from the refugees.

It matched Lance’s expectation; these people came to Hamlet with lives hanging by a thread, and when it broke, life force ceased.

So last night, he set aside the idea of suppressing them, choosing to let them have a bowl of hot congee, wishing to save them.

Yet such situations still arose...

Lance approached the corpses but found some clutching their bowls, leaving the world with smiles.

Perhaps last night’s bowl of hot congee was their most beautiful memory in this world...
