Our Family Has Fallen

Nothing relieves stress more than a good night’s sleep until you wake up naturally.

Lance had forgotten what time he went to bed last night, but he slept until the early morning, only waking when the playful morning light crept in through the window.

He was initially worried that there might be some sudden incident, just like when Warwolf invaded.

Fortunately, last night was very peaceful, and he wasn’t disturbed. He even lingered in bed for a while after waking up, getting up whenever he felt like it.

Lance tossed and turned, feeling like something was missing, then suddenly seemed to remember something and blurted out.

”Damn ancestor!”

After cursing, it felt like he had completed some ritual, and he instantly felt more at ease.

First thing in the morning, curse the ancestor.

That’s how he felt at ease.

In ancient times, Goujian endured hardships to remember his humiliation, which led to the great feat of three thousand Yue troops conquering Wu.

Now, Lance wakes up in anger, remembering his legacy, which is something not to be forgotten.

Thinking of this, Lance didn’t want to slack off. After a good rest, his mental state was different from before.

Getting up, he walked towards the window facing the rising morning light, looking out to see the whole of Hamlet awakened, its vigorous vitality and bustling scene still vivid before his eyes.

After breakfast, Lance went to see Boudica.

This fellow also had a strong constitution. After receiving the correct treatment and rest, she was now able to get on her feet and engage in some normal activities.

This also proved the strong healing abilities of Grendel.

”Boss~ I…”

Boudica came over, wanting to say something, but Lance raised his hand to interrupt her.

”No way! You can drink only when you get better.”

Lance didn’t need her to speak to know what was on her mind. Although she’d gone a month without drinking, according to their previous agreement, she should be allowed to drink her fill.

But now that her condition had just stabilized, only improved, not fully recovered, no one knew what drinking might lead to.

Boudica seemed to guess this answer, her whole demeanor deflated as she slumped on the bed.

Lance glanced at her, and her antics made him laugh in exasperation. This guy really was hopeless.

She was just unlucky; with so many people involved, only she got hit.

But it was because she always charged to the front in battles, which was related to her fighting style, as she liked engaging in close exchanges with enemies, which often ended with her being injured.

”Alright, alright, observe for three days. If there’s no issue, you can drink as much as you like,” Lance gave her some hope, offering some consolation.

”Three days and then another three days, Boss, you won’t deceive me, will you?”

Boudica tilted her head as she looked over, showing a hint of suspicion on her face when it came to matters involving alcohol.

Why did she remember him saying this also back in the Beast Lair?

”Looks like you need a good smack~” Lance raised his hand and tapped her head, ”When have I ever fooled you?”

Boudica’s thick skin felt nothing. Her intelligence seemed to increase, but not by much.

”But three days is so hard to endure~”

”Who told you to get injured and sick? I even said I’d get you armor, but you refused.”

Lance had earlier considered equipping her with armor. He hadn’t expected Boudica’s rejection after he brought it up.

Because according to their tribe’s tradition, an exile must die in battle to atone for their sins, and in this process, they cannot wear armor.

Lance sniffed at this; in this day and age, why still cling to that?

But since Boudica didn’t like it, he didn’t force her.

However, her repeated injuries already highlighted the issue; it wasn’t possible for Lance to be around every time, and many situations could actually be avoided.

This topic inevitably came up again.

Listening to Lance’s complaints, Boudica fell silent. She said nothing, but her body involuntarily curled, leaning on the pillow, and her feelings were evident with her face full of dismay.

Lance also realized his words might have been a little harsh, so he softened his tone, sitting by her bedside, gently brushing through her wine-red hair to comfort her:

”You are not an exile. Your home is right here in Hamlet, and I will never abandon you because we are family, we are companions…”

...

Leaving Boudica’s room, Lance didn’t stop his steps but instead headed to inspect the project he currently valued the most, which was the artillery development.

In this feudal era where capital was budding, knights were the noblest troop, and only the nobility could afford the resources to train one.

Riding skills were also a noble technique, with a high threshold.

At its simplest, the cost of a horse was higher than a person, and a selected and trained warhorse was even more exaggerated.

To this day, cavalry remained a precious troop, a consistent trend throughout millennia of military history.

Even Lance had to admit, building a cavalry force involved enormous costs in military expansion.

But this didn’t mean Lance was fixated on cavalry; muskets and cannons were the protagonists of future warfare.

Previously, artillery development was hindered by the lack of cannon supply, but Lance never stinted on investing; on the contrary, he always paid much attention to artillery accumulation.

The reason was simple: the professional competence required for an artilleryman was very high.

Artillerymen also followed a whole set of operational procedures, with each member of an artillery crew having their own duties.

The operators didn’t need much, but the main gunners needed to learn how to calculate the fall point of bombs, which was the most technical task. Training a qualified gunner was even more difficult than training a cavalryman.
