Our Family Has Fallen

The orange-red and emerald ”Starlight” kept drawing closer. What gradually appeared before them were grotesquely shaped Giant Spiders, a rare sight even in the Mountains.

The red-patterned Webbing Spider arched its plump abdomen. Muscles squeezed its glands, ejecting a dense white liquid. Upon contact with the air, the white liquid instantly became viscous, stretching out like a torn spider web unfolding. This ability was precisely the origin of the Webbing Spider’s name—webbing!

Everyone knew not to touch this substance, but the problem was that it shot down like a milky rain, completely inundating them. Some Barbarian Tribe warriors swung their weapons. Their concentration was so intense they could even block incoming arrows. However, when their weapons touched the white liquid, they immediately became coated and could not be shaken off. Those who were only lightly touched were still alright, but if it stuck to a leg, they were instantly immobilized, unable to move.

One particularly unlucky individual had his face covered by the webs. He frantically clawed, trying to tear them off, but to no avail. Instead, he suffocated to death in his wild struggles. He made no sound, but his silent, frenzied struggle was all the more horrifying to witness.

But the terror brought by the Giant Spiders was far from over.

There were slightly fewer green-patterned Venomous Spiders, but this was only a relative difference. The glands of the Venomous Spiders secreted not webbing, but a type of poison. When they arched their abdomens as well, it wasn’t to web, but rather—to spray poison! Green liquid also shot out, blending in. In the dim surroundings, few noticed it at that moment. Not until the green poison landed on their skin, causing a severe burning sensation, did the Barbarian Tribe warriors take notice.

The poison sprayed by the Venomous Spiders wasn’t actually very potent. It didn’t cause excessive harm to these robust warriors, who had high physical resilience. According to gaming logic, at most, it was a minor corrosive DoT (damage over time).

But it wasn’t over yet; the real horror was just beginning. Once the green poison came into contact with the white, viscous liquid that made up the webs, the two substances reacted violently. The poison, as if boiling, merged with the webs, and its toxicity instantly surged to a terrifying level. The poison, initially unable to even penetrate skin, now exhibited horrifying power when enhanced by the white, viscous liquid.

The few Barbarian Tribe warriors ensnared by the webs became the primary targets of the Venomous Spiders. Their skin corroded, the poison seeping into their Flesh and bones… Horrific screams and moans echoed throughout the dense forest.

A more terrifying scene unfolded: those warriors previously trapped managed to break free from the web’s constraints. It turned out their skin had been eroded by the poison. In their violent struggles, they tore away their own remaining Flesh. Parts of their Flesh still adhered to the webs. What was exposed on these warriors was no longer skin but a gory mass of dissolving muscle—they were bloody figures with unrecognizable faces.

Death awaited in that moment of slight relaxation…

A Webbing Spider, unable to wait for its meal any longer, leapt from a tree directly onto one such bloodied figure, biting down voraciously. The glands in its abdomen weren’t poisonous, but the salivary glands connected to its mouthparts were—this was their tool for feeding. The venom injected by its fangs killed him instantly, but also ended his agony.

Such a sight became the final straw that broke their will.

”No! We are surrounded…”

”The Elder never told us about this!”

”We’re the prey!”

”Ah! My skin is burning…”

Not everyone could withstand the continuous onslaught. The Giant Spiders’ movements were too swift; chaos took over the Barbarian Tribe warriors almost immediately. Even Warwolf’s calls struggled to regain control of the situation.

”Run! I’ll hold them back.”

The team couldn’t bear any more losses. In the end, Warwolf truly became the pack leader. Choosing to wield his Battle Axe, he covered the retreat for his team, holding off the flood of Giant Spiders.

Warwolf let out a fierce roar, hefted his Battle Axe, and split a charging Giant Spider in half. With a backhand sweep, he cut down two more. Meanwhile, the One-Eyed Wolf King also went berserk. He crushed an approaching spider with a swipe of his paw; its plump abdomen burst like a water-filled balloon, splattering its messy contents everywhere. Vicious bites tore limbs from bodies and shattered the spiders’ carapaces. He killed them with relative ease.

These Giant Spiders looked frightening, but without their webs and poison spray, they were individually quite fragile. But this was only relative to Warwolf and his kin. Even if they could kill one with each strike, how many were there?

In the darkness, the points of ”Starlight” were innumerable…

The intelligence of the Giant Spiders was even lower than that of rats. They knew no fear and would not relent. Any creature that entered here was their prey.

Web—Stun—Spray Poison—Critical Hit—Near Death—Devouring Bite—Death.

At this moment, the Barbarian Tribe warriors were like piglets on a slaughterhouse assembly line, processed and dispatched as soon as they entered. Even as he swung his Battle Axe, more and more warriors fell—a sight that even Warwolf could hardly bear.

Warwolf’s spirit was being tested… Ferocity!!!

”The Wolf God craves your blood! Your blood!”

Berserk power surged forth. What strength would Warwolf, now free of constraints, unleash?

Wang Cai turned his head in response to the noise behind him, realizing they had already alarmed the Giant Spiders.
