Our Family Has Fallen

The white wolf, without ceremony, fiercely tore open the thick pig belly. The moment the rank organs spilled out, their scent was an irresistible aroma of food to the wolf pack.

These wild pigs had little fat, especially since it wasn’t winter. Beneath their skin lay mostly muscle, making their innards the most nutritious part.

The other wolves, witnessing this, couldn’t help but draw closer. However, the white wolf suddenly lifted its head, its fierce gaze sweeping over the surrounding gray wolves. All of them immediately prostrated themselves in submission.

This was its prey. Only after it had finished eating would the others have their turn.

This was the privilege of the Wolf King, and also a symbol of strength.

Before long, the white wolf finished eating and left the tattered corpse. The remaining wolves then surged forward, tearing and scrambling for the scraps.

The piglets were also devoured by the wolves. To them, all flesh was meat, with no distinction.

As for the two injured wolves, gored by the wild boar and trampled, their chances of survival were virtually nil. Now incapable even of standing, they could only utter painful howls.

The other injured wolf was in slightly better shape. The bleeding from its wounds had stopped, and it was now trying to consume as much food as possible—the energy it needed to survive.

However, it was still missing a piece of flesh and skin. Besides the risk of infection, whether it could keep up with the pack was also uncertain.

The fate of these two wolves was thus sealed—such was the mercilessness of the wilderness.

The white wolf went straight to the one that couldn’t stand, bit through its neck, and killed it outright, but spared the other. Nature would make its choice, but not yet…

Sated, the white wolf lay leisurely to one side, licking bloodstains from its paws, appearing somewhat languid.

But the ferocity it had displayed during the hunt was far more intense than during its time in Hamlet.

Indeed, this white wolf was Wang Cai, who had escaped from Hamlet. It was now embarking on a new life after inadvertently becoming the Wolf King by a twist of fate.

Naturally intelligent, it quickly adapted to the life of the pack.

These days, it either led the pack on hunts, expanded its territory, or fought with other wolf packs.

A typical wolf pack might have only three to five members; ten was more or less the limit.

But Wang Cai, relying on its sheer strength, had forcibly merged other packs by defeating their Wolf Kings.

In a very short time, it had expanded the pack to thirty wolves, and all the female wolves became its harem.

The continuous hunting, challenging other Wolf Kings, and fending off rivals who sought to usurp its position all contributed. No wonder Wang Cai’s combat abilities had undergone such rapid Strengthening. However, these days of life in the wilderness had also eroded its former memories.

The life of a Wolf King—free, unrestrained, and attended by so many female wolves—had completely erased the last vestiges of rationality from Wang Cai’s mind, its animalistic instincts taking full control.

I, the Wolf King, born between Heaven and Earth! How could I long remain subservient to humans?

Yet, whenever it recalled that particular figure, an inexplicable sense of panic would wash over it, as if it had done something wrong.

At the same time, an irrepressible yearning for closeness would stir in its heart, an urge to return.

For a moment, a conflicted expression—something truly unusual for a wolf—appeared on its face.

Suddenly, Wang Cai sensed something and sharply lifted its head, gazing into the distance.

That strange sensation again!

Wang Cai’s languid expression was replaced by solemnity as it quickly stood up.

Its sudden movement also alerted the feeding wolves. They too grew vigilant, temporarily halting their meal and turning their gazes in the same direction.

This wasn’t the first time Wang Cai had experienced this inexplicable sensation. It had started faintly, then gradually intensified.

The sensation had vanished for a few days, and just as Wang Cai was starting to forget it, it abruptly returned, this time even stronger than before.

It didn’t know what this was, but it sensed something drawing it in...
