Our Family Has Fallen

Moreover, unlike the alpha wolf—who belonged to the flexible faction, believing ”if you can’t beat them, join them,” and thus chose to equip warriors with armor—Warwolf was an out-and-out purist of nature. He disliked wearing armor or similar equipment, believing these to be crutches for the weak. He also felt these things would affect his communion with the Wolf God.

This view caused a great stir in the Barbarian Tribes that worshipped the Wolf God. Moreover, because they didn’t know how to maintain and use such equipment, even if they did, it quickly became scrap and had to be abandoned.

This also led to the fact that even though they captured plenty of weapons and armor from caravans, they still looked like they were just wearing furs and carrying Spears.

Why couldn’t they defeat the Cavalry? It was an equipment issue. Their weapons couldn’t pierce the Cavalry’s fine armor. In contrast, a single charge and spear thrust from the Cavalry could take them down, leaving no opportunity for any tribal secret technique to come into play.

It could be said that the current heavy casualties of the Fang Tribe were, in the end, Warwolf’s fault. He had resources but didn’t know how to use them.

You are strong, but have you ever considered whether your companions need such things?

However, the Heretics they currently faced also lacked armor. This allowed the tribal warriors, who were tired of hacking at ”iron cans,” to enjoy the sensation of their blades slicing flesh.

Among them, one warrior wielded a Longsword, a trophy he had obtained from a Caravan Guard he had killed.

Facing the attacking Heretics, he swung his Longsword. When it clashed with an iron claw, sparks flew, highlighting the many notches on the Sword Blade—a testament to the enemies he had overcome.

But he soon realized that these enemies were not weak either. Yet, the Fang Tribe warriors were stronger because they never fought alone.

Fang Assault!

A white wolf had already closed in, fiercely biting into a Heretic’s calf and tearing at it vigorously, causing the Heretic to stumble.

And he, in perfect sync, forcefully swung his Longsword down. Even though the blade was no longer sharp, he relied on his strength to hack deep into flesh, and the blade struck bone.

Yet that was still not enough. With a strong pull, the notches on the Sword Blade’s edge acted like a saw, tearing away large chunks of flesh and leaving the wound a mangled mess.

Bloody Cut!

Such a severe injury would have incapacitated an ordinary person. Even without the massive blood loss, their Life Force would have been drained, and they would have lost the ability to fight.

Unfortunately, the Heretic’s only response to such a wound was a manic laugh, a deranged smile visible on his wide-open mouth.

But he did not stop his movements, forcefully stabbing towards the white wolf’s neck.

The white wolf, still madly tearing at the calf, never expected an iron claw to pierce its neck. Its spine was pierced through, instantly paralyzing it. Before even a yelp could escape, the fierce white wolf lost its ability to fight and loosened its jaw, revealing the bloodily mangled calf.

”ARGH!”

Seeing his white wolf injured, the Barbarian warrior let out a fierce cry and immediately thrust his Longsword into the enemy’s chest. The Longsword undoubtedly pierced through. He couldn’t help but feel a surge of vengeful satisfaction.

Just another corpse, that’s all...

However, what he considered a ”corpse” completely ignored the Longsword stuck in its chest. The exaggerated wounds all over its body hadn’t diminished its combat ability. On the contrary, it staggered forward with the Longsword still embedded and, with a swipe, directly chopped off the right hand wielding the sword.

For a second, he was stunned. He couldn’t understand why this person was more tenacious than a wild beast, able to fight even with such severe injuries.

But soon, excruciating pain surged to his brain, making him cry out involuntarily. He instinctively raised his other hand to clutch his severed arm.

”AAAGH!!!”

But he soon lost the chance to continue screaming, because the Heretic Warrior plunged a claw into his abdomen.

Am I returning to the Wolf God’s side...?

The warrior with the severed arm collapsed with a thud, like a pile of rotten meat, exuding the aura of death.

The Heretic raised its hand and pulled out the Longsword stuck in its chest. The severed hand was still tightly gripping the hilt. It casually tossed the sword and hand to the ground.

The blood from the recent fight had just splashed onto the Heretic, making him appear even more evil. His flesh was healing, and he felt as if his god was watching him, driving him to obtain more boons.

”For my lord!”

The Heretic raised his hands high and shouted. But before he could finish, an axe flew in from the side, directly cutting him in half at the waist.

Warwolf swung his axe backhand towards the still-writhing upper torso on the ground. Only when the head was severed from the body did it finally stop moving.

He had no time to rest. Raising his Battle Axe, he roared, ”You have to cut off their heads to kill them!”

This sentence reminded the Barbarian warriors, but it also attracted the attention of the Heretics.

The Heretics hiding in the darkness had finally completed their Sorcery. An evil power spread out, alarming Warwolf.

What was even more terrifying was that the power of death created in the battle amplified the Sorcery’s might. A large-scale Sorcery had been unleashed. Its eerie power eroded the Barbarian warriors. Even their tenacious wills, forged by the Mountains, found it somewhat difficult to resist. The white wolves fared even worse; they all began to whimper as if they had gone mad.

The Heretics, in contrast, showed a joyful reaction—ecstasy!

This was happening in the middle of a battle, where victory or defeat could be decided in an instant. Such a large opening was enough to get them killed twice over.

But it wasn’t just these Heretics who knew strange Supernatural Powers. Did they really think he, Warwolf, the Wolf God’s chosen, was a fake?

AOOOOOO~~

A wild howl, unlike any human cry, burst from Warwolf’s mouth. Behind him, the faint phantom of a colossal wolf’s head appeared.

Howl of the Wolf God!

Power spread with the sound, instantly dispelling the entangling evil energy and activating the latent Wolf God’s Power within the Barbarian warriors.

The Wolf God’s Sanctuary allowed them all to awaken from their pain. Conversely, the Heretics fell silent, as if stunned.

Warwolf paid no mind to those Heretics. Instead, he gripped his Battle Axe and charged into the darkness. The Wolf King, moving with him, also pounced forward.

The Priest posed too great a threat. When they attacked other tribes, their first target was always to kill the Priests who wielded mysterious powers.

This was the quickest way to break a tribe’s resistance. Otherwise, if those Priests didn’t die, the other tribe members wouldn’t submit, let alone use those strange Supernatural Powers to obstruct, resist, and even kill the invading enemies.

The other Barbarian warriors, even without Warwolf’s reminder, had also realized that ordinary injuries couldn’t kill these enemies. It was just that they had paid a considerable price for this information.

Now that they had reacted, they naturally wouldn’t waste this opportunity. Taking advantage of the fact that those individuals were stunned by the Wolf God, they immediately went up and beheaded them.

The battle quickly subsided. If one disregarded their flesh-healing ability, those Heretics were still somewhat inferior to the elite Barbarian warriors.

Then...

A slight sound came from the darkness, but the Barbarian warriors paid it little mind.

Because their leader would not lose. Once he made a move, he would only succeed.

Sure enough, Warwolf’s large figure appeared. In his hand, he carried a head with disheveled long hair. He casually tossed the head aside.

A warrior looked over curiously. The face on the head was stained with blood, but he could still make out that it was a young woman.

However, after witnessing the madness of these enemies, they had no such thoughts. Moreover, they had just finished a battle. Don’t think that activating the Wolf God’s Power came without a price. Now, they were completely overcome by fatigue, to the point where they didn’t even want to move.

Warwolf remained silent. He walked over to the severely injured warrior whose arm had been severed. The wound on his abdomen was so deep that his internal organs were visible. He was covered in wounds, with only a breath remaining...

”I will return to the Wolf God’s side, right...?”

”You will.” Warwolf gripped his hand tightly. But the warrior, having received his answer, had already closed his eyes.

Looking at the corpse in his arms, then at the exhausted warriors around him, and the white wolves licking their wounds.

The heart can only endure so much.

A wave of sorrow suddenly surged through Warwolf’s heart.

I’ve already done my best, but why did it still turn out like this? What exactly did I do wrong? Why am I being punished like this?
