Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 222: Chapter 190: Hamlet Does Not Need Trash_3

Walter’s body couldn’t help but tremble, though he didn’t know what had come to mind.

”Father!” Tiffany spoke up, breaking the awkward silence and completely shattering Walter’s illusion, forcing him to confront reality.

”Daughter!” Walter quickly stepped forward, supporting her shoulders and shaking them unconsciously. ”What’s happened to you? How did you end up here? How is everything at home...”

Walter had been trapped here for some time, cut off from the outside world, and he had too many questions.

But Tiffany also had countless questions she blurted out.

”What exactly happened back then? Why did you stay here? Why didn’t you come home!” At this moment, Tiffany finally dropped her feigned strength. The pressure that had built up over time gushed out with her tears, turning her into a sobbing mess.

Walter had no choice but to pacify his daughter, who had become a tearful mess, while also explaining the reasons for his entrapment and his current situation.

”How did you make it here? And what happened to make you like this? Was it that bastard Lance?” Walter’s voice was filled with anger. He recalled hearing that name from his daughter just moments before.

If anything had really happened to his daughter, he was prepared to fight back, not for the bread but for his pride!

It took a while for Tiffany to regain her composure. Then, she simply summarized what had happened, leaving Walter utterly dumbfounded.

”Ha! What? How could this have happened?”

Walter nearly choked when he heard his family business was almost ruined. When he learned it was those people causing the mayhem, anger consumed him.

”I treated them so well, and they dared to betray me? Once I get back, I’ll make them pay!” Walter gritted his teeth, his authority evident. His methods indeed gave him the confidence to make such claims.

Facing her father’s wrath, Tiffany seemed timid. Having nearly brought ruin upon the family business, there wasn’t much she could do, so she instinctively brought up Lance for support.

”They’ve been caught by Mr. Lance.”

”What does he have to do with it?”

”Father, wasn’t it you who sent him to help us?” Tiffany asked, seeing her father’s state and feeling compelled to press for answers.

”Why would I send him to find you? Those people are a pack of wolves, and he’s a hungry tiger!” Walter felt a chill run down his spine, muttering, ”It’s over... He’s going to devour our family without leaving a trace...”

Walter felt a bitter chill in his heart. Thankfully, he still had some business assets in Totnes, giving him a chance to turn things around.

However, upon hearing that all the trading group’s channels had been cut off, Walter knew his last trump card was gone. His gaze towards his daughter involuntarily held an indescribable emotion.

That access to Totnes... he had worked half his life to painstakingly secure it!

”Sigh... Perhaps this is just fate...”

Anger, frustration, powerlessness... All these emotions eventually dissolved into a single sigh, and he seemed to age in an instant.

”Father...” Tiffany trailed off, seeing him like this. She realized she might have made a terrible mistake and looked very frightened.

Now, it was Walter’s turn to comfort his daughter.

”He’s no ordinary man. It’s normal that you couldn’t outplay him. After all, he saved our family. Money lost can be earned again. As long as everyone is safe, that’s what matters.”

Walter saw the bigger picture. If the trading group was truly in trouble, his family would be in danger. The merchants with channels in Totnes would definitely skin him alive, so his reasoning was sound.

But this prompted another question from Tiffany.

”Mother and Brother haven’t returned yet?”

”What! Aren’t they in Ovando City?” Walter was stunned and quickly pressed for details.

When he heard his wife and son were returning with a caravan—a procession of thousands of refugees—he was aghast. How could they take such a risk?

Something’s wrong! Walter realized. This was a route he often traveled; it shouldn’t take more than ten days. ”No, where is Lance right now?” he asked urgently. His top priority was to determine his family’s situation.

”I don’t know. He left,” Tiffany said, somewhat panicked. She had assumed her mother and brother had already returned. Along the way, she had witnessed the chaos among the refugees and heard some unsettling things.

”I’ll go to Lord Balistan and ask him to send troops for a rescue.” Although Walter was somewhat frantic, his judgment wasn’t clouded by emotion. He was clear that sending troops was the only way to save them.

However, it was only when he found Lord Balistan that he learned Lance had already set out to meet them, having departed as soon as he returned. Though surprised, Walter couldn’t help but worry.

”What can he do alone? Send the soldiers out now!”

”The Lord has given no such orders. My responsibility is to guard Hamlet.”

”If anything happens to my family, I will never forgive any of you!” Walter, formerly a key financier of Hamlet and the owner of a trading group, could still adopt a tough stance on matters of core importance, despite the usual need for merchants to maintain a pleasant demeanor.

Not that it mattered much.

Who was Lord Balistan to be bluffed so easily? Moreover, he knew the Lord’s methods, so he showed little reaction to Walter’s threat, merely offering a reminder.

”You shouldn’t question the Lord’s decisions.”

Walter clenched his fists, his body tensing with anger, his muscles seemingly trembling.

Unbearable! I want to smash the Lord with one punch, smash Hamlet with one punch, smash everything...

”Report! A caravan has been spotted outside the town! The Lord has returned!”
