Reincarnated As a Fox With System

Chapter 507: Prey, Predator, and Apex Predator!

”Eh, what? A few phases of the situation? What does that mean?” Hei Yinghao and Bing Yi asked simultaneously in bewilderment.

Even Tang Li Xue with her knowledge of novels, animes, and games, still failed to understand Instructor Mei Lanʼs cryptic words.

”At first when you all enter that treasure island, you will be teleported to a random location. At that time, the slaughter festival would truly begin. This is the first phase that will divide all of you into two categories, predator and prey.” Instructor Mei Lan slowly explained.

But Tang Li Xue, Bing Yi, and Hei Yinghao became even more confused.

Tang Li Xue raised her hand again and asked again: ”Err... Should we find the precious treasures first before we fight with others to seize them?”.

Instructor Mei Lan shook her head and replied: ”It would be too late by then. What would happen if many weaker foxes cooperate to seize those treasures? Even stronger genius foxes would get overwhelmed if they wanted to seize those treasures from so many foxes alone.”

”That is the reason why the stronger genius foxes would immediately weed as many weaker foxes as they could the moment when they enter the treasure island.” Instructor Mei Lan paused a bit before she continued again.

”This is the most important phase where the stronger genius foxes would scramble to determine their own territory and become the predator for the weaker foxes.” Instructor Mei Lan stated clearer.

Tang Li Xue, Bing Yi, and Hei Yinghao nodded their head in understanding.

”After cleaning all of the weaker foxes from their territory, those genius foxes... or we should call them predators now, could leisurely take or even consume any precious treasures that appear in their territory. This is the end of the first phase, and it would also become your first safe point if you can survive until this step.” Instructor Mei Lan said as she stared at her students one by one.

Instructor Mei Lan told the next information with a calm tone: ”Then it will be the time to enter the second phase where those predators would clash against each other to determine the true king, we usually called it the apex predator!”

”The apex predator will not kill the predators from other territories, it will only beat them up. It is because the apex predator will not want to spend so much of its time collecting precious treasures from so many territories.”

”So, those defeated predators must become the apex predatorʼs vassals instead, and those vassals also must offer around 50% to 70% of the precious treasures they found in their territory to the apex predator.”

Instructor Mei Lan ended her explanation and to a few sips of tea to moisten her throat.

Tang Li Xue and the others were completely stunned by the information given by Instructor Mei Lan.

Instructor Mei Lan chuckled and asked Tang Li Xue and the others: ”Next, I will ask you. Which one do you think you will become later? Prey, predator, or apex predator?”

”That... we...” Tang Li Xue, Bing Yi, and Hei Yinghao started to hesitate and began to think about which one they would become.

ʼUmmm... I have obtained several new overpowered abilities now... After my cultivation breakthrough to Foundation Establishment Stage and increasing my level with royal jelly and honey from Sapphire Armored Wasps, I should at least be able to become the predator, right?ʼ Tang Li Xue considered carefully.

”Before you answer my question, you should know that the strongest team from our continent could only barely become the predator. Even Bingbingʼs older sister team could only become prey once they enter the treasure island.” Instructor Mei Lan commented while glancing at Bing Yi.

Tang Li Xue, Bing Yi, and Hei Yinghao fell silent for a few while as their expression turned gloomy.

”So... we can only become the prey too?” Hei Yinghao muttered with an unwilling tone.

Instructor Mei Lan smiled at Hei Yinghaoʼs question and replied with a light tone: ”That is why I said you all must hide first and patiently wait for the chance to grab or steal some precious treasures or resources to strengthen yourselves.”

”You all can also use this chance to observe those geniuses closer to widen your horizon and gain more experience. I, as your teacher, believe that the three of you will certainly surpass those geniuses someday in the future.” Instructor Mei Lan consoled them with her usual gentle tone.

Bing Yi and Hei Yinghao became less depressed as they heard Instructor Mei Lanʼs comfort.

As for Tang Li Xue?

Well... She has her system, so she actually did not need Instructor Mei Lanʼs comfort at all.

She believes that she will certainly surpass those geniuses faster than anyone!

No... Actually, Tang Li Xue felt that she only need to evolve one more time and reached the Beast Lord grade, the same grade as Silly Fox, Bingbing, and those geniuses, in order to surpass them all!

In Demonic Beast Grade or [Uncommon] Grade, she could already match those with Beast Lord grade or [Rare] Grade...

If she reached Beast Lord grade or [Rare] Grade later, didnʼt it mean she could even defeat those Spirit Beasts easily?!

ʼTsk, tsk, tsk... As I expect from the greatest genius such as myself! Even I was frightened by my own talent sometimes!ʼ Tang Li Xue thought smugly.

Instructor Mei Lan nodded in satisfaction when she saw that Tang Li Xue, Bing Yi, and Hei Yinghao toned down their arrogance now.

But if Instructor Mei Lan knew what Tang Li Xue was thinking right now, she would probably smack hard Tang Li Xueʼs head in annoyance.

She wasted so many words and saliva to break their arrogance, but Tang Li Xue only got more conceited instead.

Then Instructor Mei Lan continued her lesson again: ”All right, thatʼs it about the Foxes Hunting Festival. Now, we will discuss another matter. If you three, immature brats, are the prey, and the strongest foxes in each continent are the predators, then who do you think the apex predator is?”

Instructor Mei Lanʼs question clearly pulled the trioʼs curiosity once again.

”Old fox with a lot of experience?” Bing Yi guessed.

”It should be a peerless genius with the blood of an ancient holy beast, right?” Hei Yinghao randomly said.

”No, no, no... I think it must be a fox with the protagonist template and has a lot of lucky encounters!” Tang Li Xue answered while imagining the main character in novels or movies.
”Well, not bad. But all of your guess is only a little bit correct.” Instructor Mei Lan shook her head.

Instructor Mei Lanʼs expression turned more solemn as she muttered: ”It is the peerless genius foxes from Central Continent.”

Bing Yi and Hei Yinghao became dumbfounded by Instructor Mei Lanʼs answer.

However, Tang Li Xue was not as surprised as the other two.

Because Tang Li Xue had already heard some clues about how far the standard of the Central Continent compared to the other small continents such as their Lightwind Continent from the previous inheritances she got from Inheritance Ground Tablet before.

Both Evil Ghost Emperor and Heavenly Sword Immortal were also cultivators from the Central Continent.

They left their inheritance in a remote place such as Lightwind Continent because they were run away from the Central Continent for different reasons.

”Why?” Are the genius foxes from Central Continent really that strong?” Hei Yinghao asked again with an unconvinced tone.

Instructor Mei Lan shook her head and thought that her students were really still too tender and innocent.

Instructor Mei Lan began to patiently explain to her students: ”There are several reasons why all the creatures from Central Continent are much stronger than other continents.”

”First, their population is hundreds of times more than the other continents, so there would make sense if they have more geniuses, and the competition there would also be much fiercer than the other continents.”

”Second, there are constantly fierce battles and even tragic wars between the three races: Beast, Human, and Undead. So, they certainly will receive more tempering and experience in battles and wars.”

”Third, the spiritual energy there is also many times thicker compared to the other continents. So, breaking through in cultivation or evolving to higher grade are many times easier in Central Continent.”

”Fourth, this might be the most important reason above all. There are so many high-level treasures or resources there. Even legendary-level treasures or resources are available there. The top-rank powerhouses might even have mythical-level treasures or resources.”

Instructor Mei Lan took a deep breath and added one more shocking piece of information:

”Just so you know, there was an ordinary jungle boar who accidentally eat a mythical-level resource, Dragon Blood Fruit, and successfully evolve into Dragon Horned Boar there. Its strength is almost equal to the True Spirit Beast.”

This time, not only Bing Yi and Hei Yinghao, even Tang Li Xue almost dropped her jaw in shock.

That was the True Spirit Beast! Not the suppressed False Spirit Beast that Tang Li Xue had faced in Inheritance Ground Tablet!

Almost have equal strength to that kind of monster?! Are you kidding me?!

Instructor Mei Lan smiled in satisfaction when she saw her three students become speechless in an instant.

Of course, Instructor Mei Lan did not tell them that Mythical-level resources were actually very very rare like a phoenix feather or qilin horn.

Even every top-rank powerhouses in Central Continent probably only have two or three Mythical-level resources stored carefully in their deepest warehouse.

”In short, those genius foxes from the Central Continent have a lot of experience in fierce competition between their peer, bloody battles, and tragic wars against other races plus they should also already receive high-level resources or even above. So, how could you three compete with them?” Instructor Mei Lan said as she pushed down their confidence again.

For Instructor Mei Lan, it was all right to become a little bit cowardly rather than have excessive confidence. At least, the cowardly foxes usually lived much longer than the arrogant foxes.
