I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Chapter 186: Chapter 166: Magic Items

”Why did you stop?”

Gauss turned back and saw Aaliyah standing still, her expression shifting from pale to flushed, and asked curiously.

”Let’s be clear, I definitely won’t eat dirt.”

”Neither will I.” Gauss chuckled and shook his head, ”What are you thinking about all day?”

The two approached the pile of soil.

Upon closer inspection, this small mound of earth didn’t have much of an odor, merely exuding the slightly sour scent of fresh soil. The dirt was deep brown to almost black, appearing unusually fertile.

”This soil seems quite suitable for growing vegetables? It’s a pity we’re not farmers.”

Gauss said while extracting two small shovels from the toolset in his storage pouch.

Even though nothing valuable could be seen on the surface, since it was left by an elite demon, it was worth digging to see if there was anything special.

The two then began to search through the small mound of earth.

After just a few digs, they uncovered a crystal split in half emerging from the soil.

The crystal was clear, faintly glowing with a very subtle blue light, resembling both a gem and a piece of crystal.

”It should fetch a good price...”

Gauss cast an Identification Spell on it.

[Broken Clay Golem Magic Core]

Level: Common Magic Items (White Grade)

Description: This magic core was once the heart and power source of a golem. Even as wreckage, it still holds a certain value for magic research.

The weak earth-elemental magic power contained within can serve as auxiliary material for small-scale magical rituals or alchemy, especially suited for spells and applications involving earth, defense, or shaping.

Skilled craftsmen can also polish it into ordinary magical accessories.

The identification was successful.

If it had been in perfect condition, it might have been worth more.

However, Gauss wasn’t too regretful.

Low-tier elite demons generally only drop white-grade materials, selling for between 1 to 10 gold coins, and not all will drop materials. Therefore, any gain is a pleasant surprise.

In his judgment, this golem’s challenge level should be 2, theoretically requiring a party of Level 2 Professionals to defeat it.

This time, their relatively easy victory was largely thanks to Aaliyah’s Entanglement Technique, which happened to restrain the opponent.

Otherwise, with the golem’s thick ”health bar,” even Gauss would have found it troublesome.

”Gauss, can you identify this too?” Aaliyah’s voice came from the other side of the soil mound as Gauss was wiping the magic core crystal.

Ever since learning that Gauss could use the Identification Technique, she had become exceptionally attentive, frequently asking him to identify suspicious items, fearing they might miss valuable materials.

Gauss walked over and saw a lump of pure white clay lying in a pile of dark brown soil.

Under Aaliyah’s expectant gaze, Gauss cast an Identification Spell on it.

Soon, the clay also began to emit a white glow in his sight.

[Magic Soil]

Level: Common Magic Items (White Grade)

Description: A lump of magical clay separated from the massive wreckage of a golem, containing a weak yet pure trace of earth-elemental essence. It was transformed by long-term immersion and still retains energy essence even after the golem’s destruction.

It can serve as auxiliary material for alchemy or enchantment.

It can be used as casting material for earth-elemental spells.

When buried in soil, it can slowly improve soil quality, suitable for cultivating low-tier magical plants or herbs with specific soil requirements.

It can be shaped into containers or experimental apparatuses, possibly with special effects.

”It is indeed a magic item.”

Gauss conveyed the information derived from the Identification Spell to Aaliyah.

As he spoke, he was somewhat surprised.

Unexpectedly, a single demon yielded two magic items, which was not common.

For instance, during winter hunts, Gauss never got any magic items from the half-ogres he hunted; at best, he acquired some organs, weapons, or armor as ordinary materials.

Perhaps this was the unique aspect of the dungeon?

Adding on the silver brick they found earlier, today’s earnings would likely exceed the double-digit gold coin mark.

He was gradually beginning to understand the allure of the dungeon.

The two continued to dig around the soil mound for quite a while, continually identifying newly uncovered objects. Unfortunately, after finding the Magic Soil, there were no more unique magic items.

All they found were some branches, stones, bones, or severely rusted iron artifacts.

Gauss only took some regular soil, planning to use it as base soil for potted plants.

It was getting late, and the light was gradually fading.

After traveling by cart since morning, entering the dungeon at noon, and exploring all the way until now, having also dealt with a rampaging golem, the two felt quite exhausted.

They found a relatively sturdy building ruin, carefully checked the surroundings to ensure no demons were nearby, set up Warning Magic, and then lit a campfire and pitched their tent.

In the evening, by the campfire.

The flames flickered as Gauss focused on the map in his mind.

The illuminated area on the map formed a winding line.

It extended from the entrance staircase to the hall, then headed deeper along the eastern side of the hall.

They had been following the trail of small creatures without a clear goal, so their current location wasn’t far in a straight line from the hall; it would take just over an hour to walk back.

However, it seemed they hadn’t even reached the edge of the first floor of the dungeon. This place was even larger than Gauss had expected, and according to the guides, the dungeon continued to grow and develop...

What an incredible underground world.

Early the next morning, the two rose early.

The campfire had completely burned out.

After packing their gear, they set off again on their journey of exploration.

Gauss, referencing the map in his mind, tried to avoid the areas they had already explored to increase the likelihood of encountering monsters.

”The buildings seem to be getting denser around here?” Aaliyah remarked as she looked at the sprawling ruins in front of them.

”Perhaps it’s the remains of some kind of village?” Gauss said uncertainly.

The dungeon contained a special energy that could slow down the wear caused by time, preserving artifacts and structures from the Lost Realm.

Even though these buildings were now ruins, their preservation to this point was a testament to the dungeon’s incredible power.

”It looks like quite a few adventurers have visited here.” Gauss noticed several extinguished campfires outside nearby buildings, indicating multiple groups of adventurers had reached this spot.

”Ah, that’s a bit disappointing.” Aaliyah sighed.

When she saw this area of building ruins, she had been hoping they might find silver bricks or other treasures like before.

But if others had already been there, the chances of finding valuable items would be much lower.

”Let’s go in and have a look.”

Even though it might have been explored by many adventurers, there could still be overlooked treasures.

The two walked along the stone path into the ruined village.

As they traveled, the surrounding buildings were covered in all kinds of vines, branches, and roots, engulfed in a strong natural atmosphere.

”Be careful, it looks like someone was active around here recently.”

Gauss used a Communication Spell, and his voice sounded directly by Aaliyah’s ear as he pointed to the freshly crushed leaves on the ground.
