Reborn As Noble

Javier’s eyes flickered, his mind racing for an answer.

Ugh... how am I supposed to explain this to her? It’s not that I can’t. More like Liana and Gloria already spent time putting this disguise on me. If I come back clean, they’ll start questioning me, asking why I ”intended” to clean it.

They’ll get jealous, especially Liana. She feels safer letting me go on missions with this disguise on, because she knows it hides my face and dulls my alluring aura.

He averted his eyes, his voice low and evasive.

”I just... I don’t want to. I feel comfortable like this. I hope you understand.”

Celine paused, her hand lowering slowly before she nodded with a soft smile.

”Oh... I see. Very well. I understand, my husband.”

A shiver ran down Javier’s spine at the way she said ”my husband.” He quickly turned his head away, clearing his throat.

”Right... umm... you have my permission to do as you wish without waiting for my approval on everyday matters. As long as it’s not reckless.”

Celine clasped her hands gracefully, her voice gentle but firm.

”I appreciate your kindness, but it is a wife’s duty to listen to her husband and seek his guidance in all things. A faithful wife does not act on her own will, but follows the path set by her husband. That is my duty, and I shall fulfill it with honor.”

Javier’s eye twitched as he processed her words.

Gihhh! She’s even worse than Liana!

I know Liana and the others don’t leave the estate without me around, but at least they don’t ask for permission for every little thing. They just trust me and do what they think is best, as long as it’s for the good of our family and our bond. They have that perfect balance of devotion and independence.

But this one? She’s on a whole other level.

He glanced over his shoulder, seeing Celine standing there with that gentle, obedient smile on her face.

Sigh...

I really feel lucky to have all my future wives, especially Liana. They all have that old-fashioned, faithful quality that any man would be blessed to have. Loyal, beautiful, devoted, protective of our bond. They trust me, support me, and give me space when I need it.

But this one...

He sighed inwardly.

She’s on a whole different level. She’s asking for permission for everything. If she keeps this up, I’ll have to approve every step she takes. I love that my future wives are devoted, but if she asks for permission for every little thing... I’m going to go crazy.

Javier glanced at her, his expression softening slightly as he spoke.

”If you truly honor the role of a devoted wife, you can do anything you want as long as it stays within reasonable boundaries. You don’t need my permission for every little thing. Only for important matters that affect our family or our future. That’s how all my future wives live, and I expect you to do the same.”

Celine clasped her hands in front of her, bowing her head gracefully with a gentle smile.

”I understand. I will do as you say.”

Javier exhaled, relieved, before turning to scan the area.

Now where is that damn elf?

Ugh! I’m not the one at fault here, and she said she was going to report this to Liana.

His eyes swept the market until they landed on Lyzia, who was standing a short distance away, her brow furrowed as she spoke into her mana talkie.

And beside her, two elven men who looked like high-ranking nobles.

Hmm?

Isn’t that Nyvorlas and Faelar?

He watched as they both quickly averted their eyes, pretending to inspect a nearby shop as if they hadn’t just been watching the entire scene unfold.

Giiihhh! I’m sure they’re both pretending nothing happened, just because they know I’m around with Celine. They know nothing dangerous will happen to her, so they’re just focusing on Lyzia instead.

He turned his gaze and noticed the elven children who had been shielded by the pekko were now floating in the air, Buddy’s wind magic gently lifting them as they laughed and squealed in delight. More children from the street gathered around, watching in awe as their friends floated above them.

Javier exhaled, a soft smile spreading across his face as he watched the joyful scene.

At least the kids are safe and happy.

His eyes then landed on the brown pekko, who was resting lazily on the ground, eyes half-lidded, a content smirk on his beak.

Javier pointed at him.

”Oi, Brownie!”

The brown pekko’s eyes snapped open in confusion before glancing at the other pekko.

”Cuquawked?” (Who?)

Buddy smirked, glancing down at the brown pekko.

”Cuquawked cuquawked~” (Who else? My master is pointing at you. You’re the only one with brown feathers.)

The brown pekko narrowed its eyes, letting out an indignant squawk.

”Cuquawked!” (My name is not Brownie! Ugh!)

The other two wild pekko burst into loud, seagull-like laughter.

”Cuquawked Cuquawked cuquawked~” (Hahahahaha~ Brownie~)

Buddy glanced down at the brown pekko with a smug smirk before bobbing his head teasingly.

”Cuquawked~ Cuquawked~” (Go on, Brownie~ My master is calling you~ Besides, you’re lucky to be called Brownie~)

The brown pekko frowned, reluctantly standing up and ruffling its feathers before walking over lazily.

”Cuquawked!” (At least give me a better name than a food! Like Brozie or something!)

The brown pekko stopped in front of Javier, glancing down at him with a flat, unimpressed look as Javier placed both hands on his hips.

”Cuquawked?” (What?)

Javier narrowed his eyes, looking up at the brown pekko. ”You. Make sure this princess is safe while I handle something personal.”

”Cuquawkedd!!” (Eehhh!?)

The brown pekko turned his head away, averting his eyes from Javier’s glare before continuing.

”Cuquawked cuquawked!” (I don’t want to babysit an adult girl!)

Javier hissed, his voice low and firm. ”Just accompany her for a moment! This won’t take long!”

”Cuquawked...” (Fine...)

The brown pekko exhaled heavily before glancing at Celine, whose eyes were already gleaming with excitement.

”Cuquawked, cuquawked!” (Ugh! Just by looking at her, I can already tell she’s going to be a pain in the ass.)

Celine’s eyes gleamed with excitement as she turned to Javier, fidgeting slightly.

”Umm... c-can I... ride this... bird?”

Javier’s expression eased as he nodded calmly. ”Yeah, don’t worry. This pekko won’t hurt you.”

”Thank you!!” Celine’s face lit up with joy as she rushed toward the brown pekko, her hands reaching out to touch his soft, fluffy feathers. She leaned in, pressing her cheek and body against his side, a blissful sigh escaping her lips.

”Wow... it’s so soft and warm... I’ve never felt anything like this before...”

The brown pekko narrowed his eyes at Javier, letting out a low, grumpy squawk.

”Cuquawked!” (You better prepare a food reward for me after babysitting this girl.)

”Yeah, yeah. I know. Don’t worry.”

Javier turned away, his eyes scanning the market.

Now... where is she?
