Wizard: Scamming a Demon God

Chapter 5: Chapter 4: The 3 Cultivation Methods of a Legendary Mage

Feeling the power of the Flesh Transformation Magic, Isaac thoughtfully stroked his chin. ’This Witchcraft, I have to say, is a perfect match for the Demonized Heart Transplant Surgery. It instantly elevates the procedure’s practicality.’

Originally, the Demonized Heart Transplant Surgery was mainly used on humans. By transplanting the heart of a Demon, one could obtain Magic Power and an enhanced physique. The degree of enhancement varied slightly depending on the quality of the transplanted Demonized Heart. It was one of the methods Wizards used to cultivate servants.

However, this was a very ancient and primitive method. After the appearance of the Knight Breathing Technique, this form of Witchcraft was gradually phased out. In the current era, it has lost all practical meaning.

This was because far more efficient methods existed—methods that could also guarantee the loyalty of the modified subjects.

But with Flesh Conversion, its significance changed once again.

Isaac could enhance a Demon by implanting different hearts and limbs, and then use Flesh Conversion to replicate it!

It would make him a rather unorthodox type of Summoner!

’Of course, I still don’t know what the Casting speed is like, or how high the Magic Power consumption is...’

With this in mind, Isaac’s gaze fell upon the modified Demonized Rats. He watched them for a moment before looking away. ’They’re good subjects, but they’re the only two I have. I need to keep them for Observation. Besides, the surgical process can be optimized further. No need to rush.’

’Flesh Conversion requires devouring a sample to create a biological template. I’ll consider it once the technique is more mature.’

At his thought, the menacing Demon Claw moved before Isaac. Its fearsome palm made a grasping motion before opening, revealing three black-covered books. Isaac took one with great interest and opened it.

Just as he expected, it was completely blank.

Once these three books were filled with content and the period of Mana turbulence was completely over, he could begin his advancement to Grand Wizard.

Unlike the primal Witches and the wise Arcanists, the Cultivation of a Legendary Mage relied not on bloodline, nor on Meditation, but on Faith!

A Legendary Mage had only one way to increase their Magic Power: absorb the Power of Faith!

However, unlike a Deity, the Power of Faith a Legendary Mage drew upon was unique. The Power of Faith required by a Legendary Mage primarily stemmed from recognition. When people learned of a certain event or story, this special Power of Faith would be generated and absorbed by the Legendary Mage.

Thus, a Legendary Mage had two ways to increase their Magic Power. The first was to become famous; as long as one’s reputation was great enough and enough people knew of them and their deeds, they could obtain the Power of Faith. The second was to spread stories; as long as the stories you wrote were disseminated widely enough, you could also obtain the Power of Faith.

Furthermore, while acquiring the Power of Faith through these two methods, one could also condense a rather special Talent Witchcraft based on the content of the stories.

When a Legendary Mage had obtained three Talent Witchcrafts and the period of Mana turbulence had ended, they could begin arranging the ritual to advance to Grand Wizard.

Besides these two methods, a Legendary Mage had another way to acquire powerful Talent Witchcraft—a ritual!

Or rather, a gamble!

Through rituals, a Legendary Mage could communicate and trade with an Existence from beyond the world to obtain specific, powerful Talent Witchcrafts!

Of course, that was the ideal scenario.

The reality was that both the Legendary Mage and the Existence from beyond the world were extremely greedy. Both sides wanted to devour the other whole without paying any price themselves!

Thus, in most cases, the ritual itself was a gamble between two parties. Winner takes all.

The ritual Isaac performed to advance to Official Wizard had been the same. Otherwise, how could he have made so many mistakes during the process?

Wasn’t it all instigated by the Demon on the other side?

This method was extremely dangerous, and it could only grant Witchcraft, not increase one’s Magic Power.

Nevertheless, many exceptionally brilliant Legendary Mages used this method to ”trade” with extra-worldly Existences time and again, because the power plundered this way was indeed very strong.

In addition to these three methods, Legendary Mages could also research Magic like Arcanists, but they could not increase their Spiritual Power or Magic Power in the process.

The three methods were not mutually exclusive; they could be used simultaneously or one could be chosen alone. However, the vast majority of Legendary Mages would choose the first two, cultivating with a one-to-two ratio.

This was because the Magic Power from the first method, Self-Legend, was refined and easy to control, though it yielded little. The second method, Fantasy Legend, provided a larger, continuous supply of Magic Power, but it was difficult to control. This ratio allowed the two to neutralize each other’s weaknesses.

As for the third method, only a few madmen would choose it. However, the 1:1:1 ratio was also acknowledged as the strongest Path of the Legendary Mage!

Of course, its death rate was also the highest!

Isaac gently caressed the black book cover and smiled confidently. ’Of course I’ll choose the strongest path. With my Golden Finger, it’s impossible for me to lose this gamble!’

But first...

Isaac took a Magic Book, walked to his desk, and sat down. He spread it open on the table, picked up the nearby quill, dipped it in ink, and began to write a story on its pages.

’Well, to be precise, I’m copying it.’

The story for generating a Fantasy Legend didn’t have to be an original creation. As long as it wasn’t already bound to another Legendary Mage, it would work. For this reason, famous authors often went missing in this world.

Nine times out of ten, these authors had been abducted by Legendary Mages, locked in a dark room, and forced to churn out new works day and night...

Isaac didn’t need to go through such trouble. He could just copy stories from his past life!

’With so many classic masterpieces from my previous life, wouldn’t any one of them completely dominate here?’

For example, the story he was currently copying was a timeless classic fairytale from his past life—*Cinderella*!

He had chosen this story after careful consideration. After all, these were two different worlds, and many things were not the same. Stories couldn’t be blindly transplanted; they had to fit the social context.

First, this ”overbearing prince falls for me” plot was incredibly popular in his past life, both in the East and West, past and present. The only difference was that the Prince might become an overbearing CEO, and the fairy godmother a wealthy matron. He believed this world would be no exception.

Moreover, the fairytale’s moral was simple and carried no political undertones.

Finally, it contained elements of Magic. Whether it was the power of wishes or the power of transformation, they were both very practical forms of Magic Power, making it something to look forward to.

Isaac leaned over his desk, diligently copying. He had already recalled the entire plot of *Cinderella* and had even had someone polish the prose. Now, he just needed to transcribe it into the Magic Book.

Before long, Isaac had written it all down. He checked it for a moment, and seeing that the writing did not fade, a smile slowly spread across his face. ’It’s done. Now I just have to wait for the story to spread.’

For Isaac, who was born into the Nobility, this was not a problem. Although his branch of the family had already separated from the main house, there were no major conflicts of interest, and the split hadn’t been that absolute. Popularizing a story within his own territory was a simple matter.
