Master of Nine Stars

As Rong Yang broke the connection, Rong Taotao quickly pulled his phone from his pocket, muttering, ”Snow General Candle, Snow General Candle...”

”Hmm?” Gao Lingwei glanced over. The name wasn’t very familiar to her. It must be a relatively rare creature, not commonly seen in this Snow Realm.

But Rong Taotao was different. He knew the history of the Snow Realm well, so he was quite familiar with this type of general that appeared in the grand army.

If Xu Taiping’s... well, if the Ice Soul Guide’s role in the Snow Realm Army was that of a strategist, then the Snow General Candle’s role was that of a commander leading a major force.

Of course, the Snow Realm Army was composed of many different types of units, a motley mix of beast-form and Humanoid Soul Beasts. If you tried to make a Snow General Candle lead the Snowflake Wolves or the Snow Lion Tiger Corps, the packs wouldn’t listen, and it wouldn’t be able to communicate with them.

Besides, most Humanoid Soul Beasts were intelligent and had their own communities. If you tried to make a Snow General Candle command top-tier species like Frost Beauties or Snow Monks, it would probably get swatted back for its troubles.

But the Snow General Candle commanded a considerable number of troops. It could truly be called a great general of the army!

A Snow General Candle could have hundreds, even thousands, of Ghost Soldiers under its command. It could lead elite- and master-tier Snow Corpses and Snow Ghosts with perfect ease.

Last year, when Songjiang Soul Martial University was invaded by the Snow Realm Army, the force that arrived was an elite squad. It consisted of beings like Ice Soul Guides, Snow Monks, and Frost Beauties, which is why there were no Snow Ghosts or Snow Corpses to be seen.

If Rong Taotao had been guarding the Third Wall back then, he definitely would have seen Snow General Candles, Snow Ghosts, and Snow Corpses. They were the suicide squads that charged the walls.

”Why are you looking up the Snow General Candle?” Gao Lingwei asked curiously.

Rong Taotao explained quickly, ”My brother said elite-tier quality is too low, and elbow Soul Pearls at that level don’t have any particularly powerful Soul Skills. So, I was wondering if I could apply for a Soul Pet, and he told me that a few days ago, they seized a Snow General Candle cub from the Woxue Mian Organization.”

”The Woxue Mian Organization?” To Rong Taotao’s surprise, Gao Lingwei didn’t ask about the Snow General Candle, but about the Woxue Mian Organization.

”Yeah.” Rong Taotao nodded, looking curiously at Gao Lingwei.

Gao Lingwei pursed her lips. ”That person from the Woxue Mian Organization... did the Twelfth Squad catch them? What was their name?”

Rong Taotao scratched his head. ”I didn’t ask. Maybe I can ask now...”

Rong Taotao trailed off, suddenly realizing something.

’For her to have such a strong reaction and ask a question like that, it must be related to her somehow.’

He then recalled what he knew about her family background.

Rong Taotao asked cautiously, ”Your sister... uh?”

”I don’t have a sister.” Gao Lingwei shook her head, but then she nodded. ”She’s one of them. A member of the Woxue Mian Organization.”

”I’ll ask for you!” Rong Taotao put his phone down and re-established the mental link with Rong Yang.

A few seconds later, Rong Taotao opened his eyes and looked at Gao Lingwei. ”My brother didn’t say who the member of the Woxue Mian Organization was, just that they didn’t catch the culprit.”

”I see.” Gao Lingwei nodded lightly. She picked up the phone Rong Taotao had set aside, seemingly trying to change the subject. ”Let’s look up that Candle General.”

”Snow General Candle.”

”Right,” Gao Lingwei replied distractedly.

A few seconds later, she too was captivated by the image on Rong Taotao’s phone.

What an awe-inspiring general!

Its appearance was unmistakably that of an ancient Eastern general!

’The Creator truly is incredible,’ Gao Lingwei thought. A single glance at the image seemed to transport her back to ancient times, to an age of clashing armor and charging warhorses, of soldiers battling on dusty fields.

”Snow General Candle.” Rong Taotao pursed his lips, his face full of adoration. The picture showed an otherworldly creature.

It was clad in a full suit of armor, wore a helmet, and even had a cape!

The armor, the helmet, and the cape were all formed from frost and snow. As for its actual body...

’Hmm, does it even have a body? It looks more like it’s pieced together from frost and mist.’

Beneath the exquisite snow-made helmet, on a face outlined by layers of frost and mist, burned two Ice Candle eyes, looking utterly terrifying!

Rong Taotao scrolled through the data and opened a GIF. He couldn’t help but let out a soft sigh of amazement. ”Whoa... this is so damn cool...”

As Rong Taotao had expected, the Snow General Candle didn’t have a physical, corporeal body. The parts of it visible outside the armor and helmet were all composed of frost and mist.

The mist flickered in and out of existence, dispersing and coalescing, which caused an aura of frost and snow to envelop it, making its form seem ethereal and unpredictable.

The armor, helmet, and cape, however, were solid—firmly compressed and frozen. In this state, it could truly be called a ”Ghost General.”

Because at the moment its misty body shattered, all you could see was the hovering helmet, the suit of armor, and that pair of burning Ice Candle eyes.

Gao Lingwei asked, ”Your brother is going to apply for this kind of Soul Pet for you?”

”Yeah.” Rong Taotao nodded, overjoyed. ”A Snow General Candle cub... Man...”

Rong Taotao scrolled down, looking for its Soul Skills.

”1. Ice Candle Ashes: An Eye Soul Skill that burns an enemy’s Soul Power. 2. Ice Candle Array: A wrist Soul Skill that summons a sky full of Ice Candle Flames to rain down, inflicting frostbite on all creation...”

”Sheesh...” Rong Taotao sucked in a sharp breath and turned to Gao Lingwei. ”This thing is brutal!”

Gao Lingwei’s expression was grave as she pointed to the next few lines of text. ”It says: ’Appears both human and ghostly, with passable intelligence. Ferocious and tyrannical by nature, its temperament is recklessly brave yet blindly loyal. It feeds on the Soul Power of its prey and on living creatures. An uncommon high-Quality Soul Beast of the Snow Realm; extremely dangerous.’”
