Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 104: Chapter 96: Lin Yi Gave Birth

Ever since the apocalypse began, the world’s living creatures were no longer just humans and animals.

Instead, there were humans, animals, and mutant beasts.

Mutant beasts looked a bit stranger than animals, but of course, some mutant beasts looked just like normal animals. The line between the two wasn’t very clear.

But humans didn’t need to make a special effort to tell them apart, because the most obvious difference was that mutant beasts actively attacked humans.

It was as if mutant beasts and humans were natural-born enemies, with no possibility of reconciliation.

That was why everyone who saw Tang Mo’s fox assumed it was just an animal, not a mutant beast.

The idea of Tang Mo forming a contract with a mutant beast seemed utterly absurd. She was just a Space System user, after all.

As for the truth—a mutant beast willingly approaching a human—that was a possibility they had never even considered.

And Tang Mo had no intention of explaining.

Soon, one evening, Lin Yi went into labor. All the best gynecologists in S Base gathered in the VIP ward of the base’s only hospital.

Because Lin Yi was having a high-risk pregnancy due to her age, Tang Mo and Wen Jianshu paced anxiously outside the room.

”You two, stop pacing around. It’s not like you can help in there.”

Zhou Ying sat outside the hospital room with five-year-old Wen Qi.

Because of her awkward position in the family, she always made an effort to be more considerate than Wen Jianli and his wife.

Zhou Ying had said that with Tang Mo being a young woman who had never had a child and Wen Jianshu being a man who had never had a child, she had to come and help put their minds at ease.

Regardless of her motives, both Wen Jianshu and Tang Mo were grateful for the gesture.

”Mama, when is my little brother coming out?” Children have limited patience, and Wen Qi was getting antsy.

”Oh, you even know it’s a little brother? It seems your wife really might give you a healthy baby boy, Second Brother.” Zhou Ying bantered, using her son’s words to naturally flatter Wen Jianshu a bit.

”That would be wonderful! Wen Qi, once your little brother is born, Uncle will give you a huge red envelope!”

He would have been happy with either a boy or a girl, but given Lin Yi’s age, this would clearly be their last child. If he could really have a healthy boy, he would finally have a successor!

The moment Wen Jianshu thought about it, he couldn’t stop a joyful smile from spreading across his face. But then he remembered his wife was still suffering in the delivery room, and his expression immediately turned serious again.

The rapid change from flushed to pale was quite amusing to see.

’No matter how sensible Wen Ze is, he’s still not my own flesh and blood,’ Wen Jianshu thought. ’What’s more, he inherited his father’s passive, non-competitive nature. He can’t possibly support the entire Wen Family on his own.’

To Tang Mo, it didn’t matter if it was a boy or a girl. ’I’m a grown woman now,’ she thought. ’All I want is for Mom to be safe and sound!’

She wasn’t usually at the base, so having a child to keep her mother company would be wonderful.

Besides, Tang Mo genuinely liked children.

”Leader, your wife has given birth! A boy, 9 pounds, 8 ounces. Mother and son are both safe and sound.”

The nurse came out first to deliver the good news. Lin Yi had a C-section, and since she was the leader’s wife, the entire medical staff had been holding their breath.

”Really? Wonderful! Wonderful!”

Wen Jianshu repeated the word twice, so excited he couldn’t stop wringing his hands.

”We’ll be moving the mother and child to the recovery room shortly. The family can see them then.”

Soon, Lin Yi was wheeled out, and Wen Jianshu and Tang Mo immediately crowded around her.

They helped push the gurney as they followed it to the room.

Meanwhile, Zhou Ying and Wen Qi were the only ones to follow the nurse who carried out the baby.

She remembered how, when she had given birth, Wen Jianming hadn’t even come home that night.

Seeing Wen Jianshu’s obvious devotion and concern for Lin Yi, she was filled with envy. It strengthened her resolve to build a good relationship with Lin Yi.

Perhaps it was nature’s way of balancing the population, but babies born after the apocalypse seemed healthier and more robust than newborns from before. Their cries were louder, too.

Tang Mo took after her mother, with slender, uniquely charming eyes, a small, delicate, and straight nose, and a well-defined jawline—all the classic features of a beauty.

But her newborn brother was the spitting image of Wen Jianshu, with his big eyes, big nose, and big mouth. Wen Jianshu was so overjoyed he didn’t know how to react.

Lin Yi woke up soon after. Once Tang Mo asked a few questions and confirmed her mother was alright, she gave her spot to Uncle Wen and went to hold the baby.

’Newborn babies are so soft.’ Tang Mo, whose hands were accustomed to the feel of a knife, was almost afraid to hold him.

When she finally managed to lift him, the baby stared up at her with his round eyes, his little tongue blowing bubbles. Tang Mo’s heart melted.

She had thought that, being in her twenties, it would take some mental adjustment to get used to having a new baby brother.

But holding him in her arms, seeing the dependent look in his eyes as he gazed up at her, she couldn’t help but marvel at the power of kinship.

Tang Mo had lived two lives and was already an adult. She was no longer a child seeking love from her parents, but had taken on the role of the family’s protector.

So at this time, having an additional family member didn’t make Tang Mo feel any sense of loss. Instead, she felt even more fulfilled, feeling that her bond with this world had deepened.

Lin Yi had to stay in the hospital for a week to recover from her C-section. Eager to see the baby, Mr. Wen Sr., Wen Jianli, and Wen Jianming all visited the hospital several times.

With his favorite second son finally having an heir, Mr. Wen Sr. was the happiest of them all.

He generously gifted Lin Yi many treasures. Tang Mo glanced at them and saw they were mostly precious items for restoring one’s health.

There were also two treasures with the Life Attribute: one for Lin Yi and one for his new grandson.

For someone like Lin Yi and a newborn baby, increasing their Life attribute value was ideal. It would reduce their chances of getting sick in this harsh environment and help them heal faster from injuries.

Mr. Wen Sr. made the final decision on the baby’s name: Wen Yang, with the nickname Yangyang.

Lin Yi was very pleased with the name.

Tang Mo stayed with Lin Yi through her month-long postpartum confinement. Seeing that her mother had fully recovered, she knew it was time for her to leave.

Tang Mo fastened a bracelet onto Yangyang’s wrist. ”Be a good boy, Yangyang. Your big sister has to go now. I’ll be back to see you again.”

In just one month, Tang Mo’s affection for her little brother had already grown very deep.

”Momo, you must be careful when you’re out there. Safety first.”

Lin Yi knew her daughter was leaving again and nagged worriedly, but unlike before, she didn’t try to make her stay.

When did Lin Yi’s way of thinking start to change?

It was from the moment she found out Tang Mo had reached number fifteen on the ranking list.

At that moment, Lin Yi truly understood what her daughter wanted and just how powerful she was.

She couldn’t keep a bird from flying, selfishly caging her by her side.

’As long as you’re strong enough, as long as you’re powerful enough, you can earn anyone’s respect.’

This was the truth Tang Mo had come to understand from this experience.
