Reborn into the 70: Turning Adversity into Her Dazzling Path

The iron rice bowl—a lifelong pursuit that Wang Meili dreams of achieving.

Her biggest wish in this life is to get into the transformer factory and become a formal worker with an iron rice bowl, just like Gu Chunmei.

Speaking of Gu Chunmei, Wang Meili feels furious.

Just because she is literate and has a middle school education, she was sent by the transformer factory to study, and after completing her studies, she would return as a skilled worker with added prestige.

I’ve heard that her salary is going to multiply several times.

Thinking of this, Wang Meili gritted her teeth and said to Sister Zhou, ”Alright, I’ll go back and think of a way.”

”You’d better hurry, you know how many people are eyeing this position now,” Sister Zhou advised with a look that seemed to be for her own good.

Wang Meili anxiously went off to come up with a plan, while over on Gu Lingling’s side, she didn’t hold back her laugh upon hearing the news.

The reason she had Grandpa Yao help get Wang Meili into the transformer factory in the first place was to hold her with the temporary job, knowing Wang Meili’s lifelong desire.

So it was like dangling a carrot before her nose, just using this temporary job to keep Wang Meili hanging.

As long as Yao Zhenjiang is around, and as long as Wang Shuosheng is still the director of the transformer factory, Wang Meili’s temporary job can’t be made permanent.

As for later, when Wang Shuosheng is no longer the director, it wouldn’t matter if Wang Meili wants to become permanent.

Because in not too many years, the iron rice bowl and communal meal system will be broken as state-owned enterprises fall apart one by one.

To her knowledge, before her last life ended, before she died, the transformer factory here also shut down.

And those workers remaining in the factory, reliant on their iron rice bowls, were all laid off.

”You little imp,” Grandma Yao tapped her granddaughter’s nose, ”Wang Meili’s going to bleed a lot this time.”

More than that.

That supervisor, Gu Lingling knew him too, unless Wang Meili could get good liquor from the black market, she wouldn’t be able to catch his eye.

Zhao Si’en, helping Grandma Yao unravel yarn on the side, looked up and grinned.

Since moving into Grandma Yao’s house, the little girl’s smiles have become more frequent.

”Come, Grandma will measure my Enen’s size,” Grandma Yao stood up, pulling Zhao Si’en’s hand to stretch it out.

”This...is for me?” Zhao Si’en was stunned right there.

She never imagined that the yarn she was helping to wrap was for Grandma Yao to knit her a sweater.

Even though the yarn came from a batch of defective yarns that the department store was getting rid of a few days ago, and Grandma Yao brought it back, it still cost quite a bit of money.

And even Gu Lingling didn’t have one.

”No...Grandma, I can’t accept this,” Zhao Si’en shook her head anxiously.

”This child,” Grandma Yao’s heart ached even more, ”this yarn didn’t cost much, your Sister Lingling and the others all have it.”

Gu Lingling got a new sweater this year, though in the past, Grandma Yao wanted to knit for her, but she didn’t want it because of her odd temper back then.

Zhao Si’en’s tears started falling.

Her days at the Yao Family have been the happiest in her life.

Before at the Zhao Family, in all aspects, the conditions were good, but her parents were always busy with their careers, and the age gap with her brother was too big for them to play together; her only companion growing up was her doll.

Her material life was good, but she could never really feel happy.

And there wouldn’t be anyone willing to spend so much time knitting a sweater just for her.

Zhao Si’en turned her head, crying, and ran into the room. Just then, Yao Jingsong returned from outside and said, ”Gu Lingling, did you bully her?”

Gu Lingling rolled her eyes at him, not wanting to deal with this fool.

”Where have you been messing around? Look at your dirty clothes,” Grandma Yao frowned, reaching out with one hand to twist the fool’s ear, ”Were you fighting again?”

”Gran, I’m your dear grandson, easy…easy.”

Seeing Grandma Yao chasing Yao Jingsong around in the courtyard, Zhao Si’en, with tears on her face, couldn’t help but smile sweetly.

She couldn’t help but look towards the sky, believing that somewhere, her family was also holding onto hope with courage.

Just live, live well.
