Reborn into the 70: Turning Adversity into Her Dazzling Path

Chapter 118: Chapter 118: Making Dumplings

Gu Lingling hung the unfinished chicken soup in the well with a basket, missing the refrigerator from her future life dearly.

Thankfully, the vegetables and meat sent by the troops weren’t given all at once; otherwise, despite it being almost September, the weather’s still quite hot, and they would surely spoil.

Grandma Yao’s backyard garden had lots of vegetables, all meant for their family’s consumption. Whenever Gu Lingling came by, she would bring some. In the morning, she would make vegetable porridge, steam some buns, or make some pancakes, paired with refreshing green side dishes that were quite appetizing.

The lunch was either stir-fried dishes with rice or noodles, and the meals were never repeated.

When Yang Yunhai asked about her cooking skills, Gu Lingling claimed she learned from Grandma Yao.

In fact, these days she truly was learning to make snacks from Grandma Yao.

According to Grandma Yao, their ancestors were all chefs, and these skills have been passed down by word of mouth.

No wonder it tastes so good.

Yang Yunhai touched his stomach, noticing he’d gained some weight recently from being fed by this girl.

Captain Yang, who always valued his physique, secretly started to exercise.

Why secretly? He’s still an injured man, and Gu Lingling kept a close watch on him every day, worried that any large movement might reopen his wounds.

Blame it on Zhao Yu, who came to change his dressing that day, who had to mention it, giving this girl an excuse to keep an eye on him.

Isn’t it just like getting a little housekeeper appointed to him?

Moreover, Yang Yunhai discovered that ever since Gu Lingling took on this task, her courage grew; she would even glare at him.

Busy in the kitchen making dumplings, Gu Lingling had no idea about Yang Yunhai’s complicated feelings. The fresh shepherd’s purse from her grandma’s garden made for the most delicious dumpling filling.

She hummed a little tune while wrapping the dumplings.

Recently, not to mention that Yang Yunhai had put on some weight, but she too had grown taller from eating well. If this development continued, she would definitely be taller in this life compared to her previous one, at least reaching 165 centimeters without a problem.

Especially her once dry and yellowed hair, which had become smooth under Grandma Yao’s secret formula.

”Gu Lingling, look at what I have here?” Yao Jingsong ran in mysteriously with something wrapped in clothes, and came close to Gu Lingling to say.

”Wild mushrooms, how are there so many?” Gu Lingling asked in surprise.

”All gathered by my little brothers and me,” Yao Jingsong said proudly, ”Let’s add a dish for lunch.”

Gu Lingling was good at cooking and often made him little snacks, and although she scolded him harder than his grandfather sometimes, their bond grew stronger.

”Off fooling around with those boys again?” Gu Lingling gave Yao Jingsong a glare, tempted to hit him with the rolling pin she was using to roll out dumpling dough. ”Haven’t I told you many times what’s going on outside? Why do you keep running out? Haven’t you learned from last time?”

”Let me tell you, remind your little brothers to be careful, because if you get caught, no one can save you,” she said.

”Got it, you said it so many times, aren’t you tired of nagging?” Yao Jingsong fiddled with his ear, ”Zhui Zi hasn’t found his family yet, we’re taking him back to the Capital City today, it’s on the way anyway...”

”Do you want these or not?”

”Of course I want them,” Gu Lingling quickly snatched the things over.

Fresh wild mushrooms in soup were simply delicious enough to make you bite your tongue.

When Yang Yunhai came in, Gu Lingling was earnestly teaching Yao Jingsong how to wrap dumplings.

”Oh dear, how can you be this clumsy?” ’Smack,’ went a slap on the back of Yao Jingsong’s head, ”The dumpling’s ripped open, are you planning to drink soup later?”

Yao Jingsong felt wronged, ”...”

Really! Is this even how you’re supposed to teach someone?

”You’re the clumsy one!” Your whole... well, just she alone is clumsy!

Yang Yunhai’s lips curled into a slight smile.

Every time she appeared clumsy, Yang Yunhai saw it, and Gu Lingling just gave up caring altogether.
