Reborn into the 70: Turning Adversity into Her Dazzling Path

Chapter 70: Chapter 70: Nightmare

”Gu Lingling, where did you go this morning?” Returning home after school, Gu Juan blocked Gu Lingling at the door.

”None of your business.” Gu Lingling didn’t even look at her, sidestepping into the house, ”Grandpa, I’m back.”

”Grandpa, look what I brought you today?” Gu Lingling placed a sour fruit in Old Man Gu’s hand and said softly, ”I’ll bring you some tasty treats in a few days.”

”Went up the mountain?” Old Man Gu glanced outside and said with a smile.

”The classroom was too chaotic, it’s peaceful up the mountain.” Gu Lingling placed her backpack with Old Man Gu, ”Grandpa, I’ll go check if dinner’s ready.”

After saying that, she dashed off to the back.

In the main room, Gu Juan was complaining to Old Mrs. Gu, ”I don’t know where she went running off to, only coming back in the afternoon. When I asked her, she snapped at me.”

”Gu Juan, we’re not even in the same class, right?” Gu Lingling leaned against the doorframe, looking at her with a half-smile, ”Why do you seem to know my whereabouts better than your own?”

”Lingling, Juanzi is just concerned about you.” Wang Meili chimed in with a smile, ”You both share the same surname, after all, you’re sisters.”

Gu Lingling smiled faintly, not saying a word.

Everyone knew if it was concern or surveillance.

”Juanzi, don’t bother with her. People like her just take others’ kindness for granted.” Old Mrs. Gu patted Gu Juan’s hand to comfort her, ”Tomorrow morning, have your mom boil two eggs for you to take to school.”

Gu Lingling acted as if she couldn’t hear, took some pickles, grabbed three cornbreads, and took her meal to the side room for Old Man Gu.

Gu Chunhai said in the morning he’d be back late tonight, told them not to wait for him for dinner.

Gu Lingling couldn’t be bothered to look at the faces of those three.

As for Old Mrs. Gu, she didn’t even need to lift a finger; the wicked will deal with the wicked. She’d leave it to Wang Meili and Gu Juan. Once she was of no use, it would be a wonder if Wang Meili and Gu Juan treated her well.

”This damn girl, forget her, let’s eat.” Old Mrs. Gu felt like she’d punched a cotton ball, angrily dusting off her clothes as she stood up.

At night, Gu Lingling had another nightmare.

It was still that dream of being raped, the girl was still the same, but she didn’t recognize her, and just as she was trying to get a clear look at the man, her arm suddenly ached.

Damn, it hurt so much it was unbearable, tears were about to fall.

Was someone trying to murder her?

”You were having a nightmare, I... I couldn’t wake you no matter how I tried.” Gu Juan was startled when she met Gu Lingling’s cold eyes.

”Why... why are you looking at me like that?” Seeing Gu Lingling staring at her unblinking, Gu Juan felt her hair stand on end.

Gu Lingling still didn’t say a word, just kept staring at Gu Juan.

Suddenly, Gu Lingling sprang up and straddled Gu Juan, pressing her knee hard into Gu Juan’s stomach.

With that leap and hard press, Gu Juan felt like all her insides were being crushed.

Cough, cough... a fit of coughing.

When she finally caught her breath and looked again, Gu Lingling was already lying down.

Was she seeing things just now?

But her stomach hurt so much.

Gu Juan glared resentfully at Gu Lingling, who was sleeping soundly, clutching her stomach as she lay down too.

Her earlier injuries hadn’t healed yet, and now her stomach hurt even more.

She couldn’t forget that Gu Chunhai was still at home, and if she kept this up, Gu Chunhai would only grow more displeased with her.

All because of this damn girl.

Just wait, when that person returns, she’ll make sure she pays.

Gu Lingling’s lips curled slightly; she’d used quite some force just now, Gu Juan’s stomach would probably hurt for days.

Unknowingly, she fell asleep again.
