I Died and Became a Noble's Heir

Chapter 530: Sarin Reborn

The response was deliberately vague, offering information without actually explaining anything substantive.

The masked figure’s attention shifted to Jack, and his tone changed.

”Commendable performance. The mental trauma you’re causing some of our members shows how strong you are at such a young age.”

He paused, his yellow eyes tracking Jack’s transformed appearance. A sly smile touched his lips.

”Most Soul Wardens we’ve hunted required years to develop psychological warfare techniques of this sophistication.”

Jack’s mismatched eyes narrowed fractionally, his stance shifting from relaxed to alert as he processed the masked figure’s presence with growing confusion.

”Who are you?” .... ”And why,” Jack continued, his yellow and orange eyes tracking the figure with intensity that made the air between them feel charged, ”because all I see when I look at you a void.”

The masked figure went perfectly still.

His yellow eyes visible through the mask’s slits widened fractionally. The only visible sign of surprise broke through otherwise perfect composure.

Behind the porcelain, calculations were clearly racing.

How much did Jack actually perceive? What level of sensory capability did this observation represent? And most importantly. What other hidden details had he noticed that remained unspoken?

”How long have you noticed?” The question emerged carefully measured.

Jack’s head tilted slightly, his mismatched gaze never wavering from the masked figure’s position. ”Since you’ve been standing in the shadows. Your physical form is visible, but where your presence should register, there’s nothing. Just empty space shaped like a person. Like staring at a hole in reality.”

The explanation was clinical, delivered without particular emotion or concern.

The masked figure’s laugh erupted suddenly.

A profound and authentic amusement, extending beyond mere courtesy to genuine appreciation.

The sound rolled across the battlefield, making several of the kneeling demons shift slightly in response to their leader’s obvious pleasure.

It was the kind of laugh that came from genuine delight.

”You are everything I hoped for,” he declared. ”Everything the reports suggested and more. You have a great destiny ahead of you, Jack Kaiser. Greater than you can currently comprehend.”

Jack’s expression remained neutral, his stance relaxed despite the obvious threat posed by the masked figure.

”Who are you?”

”I am the Leader of the Council,” the figure replied, offering title without name or additional context.

The statement carried weight beyond simple identification.

This wasn’t just a Council member or high-ranking operative; this was the apex of the organization that had hunted Soul Wardens for generations, the individual who commanded and coordinated their efforts across continents.

Jack’s mismatched eyes tracked the masked figure with renewed focus.

”What do you really want?” The question cut through diplomatic pretense with surgical precision. ”You have yet to attack. All you do is stand there watching. So what’s your goal here?”

Behind the masked figure, Warren and Mira exchanged glances.

Relief flooded through them in waves.

The Leader of the Council was engaging Jack in conversation rather than immediate combat, which meant potential escape routes might still exist if they could exploit whatever distraction this dialogue provided.

Warren’s water manipulation senses continued tracking the barrier’s structure, noting where Loryn’s dark mana flowed strongest and where potential weaknesses might be exploited.

His tactical mind was already formulating plans, calculating mana costs and success probabilities for breach attempts.

The masked figure’s yellow eyes gleamed with dark anticipation visible even through the porcelain’s narrow slits.

”I want to watch how you plan to kill Mira and Warren.”

The statement landed like a death sentence.

The relief that had been building in Warren and Mira evaporated instantly, replaced by confusion that bordered on horror.

Their leader. The person who commanded their loyalty and directed their missions was explicitly permitting their execution.

Not just allowing it, but expressing a desire to witness it personally.

Jack’s laugh emerged suddenly.

Genuine amusement, mixed with dark pleasure, made the sound deeply unsettling.

His blood-stained teeth became visible as his lips pulled back in a grin that transcended simple expression.

”I gave Mira her option,” Jack replied, his tone flat despite discussing murder with clinical detachment. ”But Warren’s death will not be done by my hands.”

The specification was intentional, highlighting the distinct destinies awaiting the two Council members.

Mira would die by demon, god, or dragon as she chose.

Warren would face something else entirely.

Confusion rippled through Warren and Mira simultaneously.

The Leader of the Council was supposed to protect them, to intervene on behalf of the organization he commanded.

Why would he permit, even encourage, their execution?

What possible benefit could their deaths serve to someone who’d spent centuries building the Council’s power?

Jack’s heterochromatic gaze meticulously analyzed the masked individual, his tactical intellect rapidly assessing angles and motivations, leading to conclusions Warren could not comprehend.

”Is this about the thirteenth throne?” Jack asked, his tone shifting from amusement to something more serious. ”Do you want me to take it?”

The masked figure’s yellow eyes blazed brighter behind the porcelain, and when he spoke, his voice carried a weight that made reality itself strain under the proximity of whatever truth he was revealing.

”No.” The word was absolute, brooking no misunderstanding. ”I want to witness Sarin be reborn. After all, you are the key.”

For the first time since stepping through the portal, Jack smiled.

Not the amused expression he’d worn when mocking Mira, not the neutral mask he’d maintained during conversation with Alaric.

This was something darker.

A profound sense of satisfaction, coupled with a heightened awareness and foresight, led to a fundamental transformation in his overall disposition.

Blood-soaked teeth became fully visible as his lips pulled back, the crimson staining making the expression deeply disturbing.

The contrast between white enamel and red blood created a grotesque display.

His heterochromatic eyes intensified, radiating a palpable heat that distorted the surrounding air.

The two hues appeared to synchronize with his heartbeat, creating a captivating and engrossing visual phenomenon.

In an instant, Jack vanished.

Golden lightning erupted behind Jack as he materialized directly in front of the masked figure, his entire right arm wreathed in crackling electrical energy, turning it into a weapon of devastating potential.

It coated his arm from shoulder to fingertips in layers of compressed power that distorted the air around the limb, making his appendage appear larger than its actual size through sheer density of accumulated energy.

The golden electricity crackled and snapped, arcs jumping between points on his arm. Each discharge released small amounts of lightning, cracking and shattering stone.

An explosion detonated behind Jack’s elbow. The detonation created a shockwave that rippled outward, sending pressure waves across the assembled demons who remained kneeling in perfect formation.

The blast was precisely timed and positioned, occurring at the exact moment when Jack’s arm needed maximum acceleration to drive through whatever defenses the masked figure might deploy.

Jack’s hand was extended like a spear blade, fingers pressed together to create a point.

Golden lightning concentrated at his fingertips, creating an edge that cut through air itself and left trails in the attack’s wake.

Jack’s hand drove into the masked figure’s stomach, penetrating fabric and flesh with force backed by explosive propulsion and elemental enhancement.

His arm buried itself up to the forearm, half his appendage disappearing into the Leader of the Council’s torso as golden lightning crackled around the point of impact.
