Beast Taming: I Can Add Points

Day three of the City League.

Arena 087, the round of sixteen.

”WHOOSH!”

An earthen wall rose. After a long stalemate, Yu Bao finally found an opening in the opposing Cyan Feathered Falcon’s defense and decisively unleashed Yellow Earth Wall.

The Cyan Feathered Falcon, which had been constantly kiting Yu Bao with its superior speed, panicked. By the time it came to its senses and tried to break out, the Yellow Earth Wall had sealed it in completely.

Immediately after, a sandstorm raged—

”WHOOSH!”

A stream of sand and dust shot out from the top of the Yellow Earth Wall ”Detention Room.”

Amidst the swirling sand, a dark, blurry shape could be seen getting blasted out along with it.

”GAAH...”

SPLAT.

The Cyan Feathered Falcon traced a graceful arc through the air before landing on the ground, unable to get back up.

As the opposing contestant stared in stunned disbelief, the timer froze: 00:23:31.

’We won!’

Su Zhi let out a long sigh of relief, a smile creeping into his eyes.

After shaking hands with his opponent, Su Zhi vigorously ruffled the fur on Yu Bao’s little head.

Starting yesterday, victories hadn’t come as easily as they did in the first two rounds.

Every opponent was skilled, and it was hard to just steamroll them without a solid strategy.

For example, this last opponent’s Cyan Feathered Falcon had been a real headache.

The opponent’s Beast Taming Talent was [Riding the Wind and Controlling Lightning], which allowed their Pet Beast to drastically reduce drag and stamina consumption during flight or high-speed movement.

The Cyan Feathered Falcon was already a high-mobility Pet Beast; paired with this talent, its endurance became even more formidable.

Su Zhi and Yu Bao had found themselves in an awkward situation where they couldn’t lose but also couldn’t win, completely helpless against the Cyan Feathered Falcon’s kiting tactics.

Ultimately, Su Zhi came up with a cage strategy: first, trap the Cyan Feathered Falcon, and then, with its mobility restricted, beat it senseless!

So, Yu Bao waited patiently, and after a long stalemate, the scene from just moments ago unfolded.

In reality, if the Cyan Feathered Falcon had remained cautious the entire time, it would have been very difficult for Yu Bao to find an opening.

This wasn’t just a contest of skill and tactics, but a battle of mental fortitude!

”You were amazing, Yu Bao! I’ll treat you to something delicious tonight.”

”Woof,” Yu Bao woofed, scratching his head bashfully.

’I’m not that amazing, really. I just did what I was supposed to do.’

”Oh? Then no treats, I guess.”

”Woof!”

Yu Bao patted Su Zhi with a solemn expression.

’How can we not eat? You must follow your heart! If you want to eat, then eat!’

’This is... youth!!!’

The tamer and his pet stared at each other for a moment before Su Zhi burst out laughing.

”You learned that from Cao Mingyu, didn’t you?”

”Hahh~”

”Let’s go. What do you want to eat?”

”Hahh hahh~~”

The duo walked off the arena stage, side by side.

In Livestream Channel 08701, the bullet comments were already flooding the screen—

[Frost Shadow Qtm: AHHH GOD SU IS A BEAST!]

[Annihilation: Honestly, this match had me on the edge of my seat. I really thought God Su was going to get kited to death.]

[Jade Balance 001: Yeah, and the last match too! God Su’s bracket luck is terrible. Every opponent he gets matched with is super strong.]

[A Scum White Hair: After so many matches, haven’t you guys gotten used to it? Just believe Su Zhi will win. No matter how much of a disadvantage he seems to be at, he always wins in the end!]

[Viewer877691: Fuck! Didn’t you guys say Su Zhi was total trash? I bet everything on the other guy!]

[Viewer865131: Damn it! Me too! This is organized fraud!]

[A Scum White Hair: /smug smile/ /finger point/]

[Jade Balance 001: /smug smile/ /finger point/]

[Annihilation: /smug smile/ /finger point/]

”This channel would like to gently remind everyone to stay away from Pet Beast gambling and embrace a healthy lifestyle~”

Lu Dongjie said this after confirming that his winnings had been deposited into his account.

[Jade Balance 001: This streamer is so devious~ Before the match, he was trashing Su Zhi left and right, tricking all the new viewers into betting on the other guy.]

[Annihilation: Weren’t you guys doing the same? A bunch of Sitting and Forgetting Dao practitioners.]

[Frost Shadow Qtm: Lu Yiji! You’re tricking the new viewers again!]

Lu Dongjie played along, coughing twice and even blushing furiously:

”It’s analysis, analysis... Can you really call what a commentator does ’tricking’?”

He then spouted a bunch of jargon the audience didn’t understand, like ”reasonable speculation” and ”tactical comparisons,” filling the stream with a jovial atmosphere.

[Frost Shadow Qtm: Seriously, I really love watching God Su’s matches now. The bond between him and Yu Bao is amazing! Not like some tamers and their pets who have no interaction and just act like superiors and subordinates.]

[Annihilation: To the person above, God Su’s approach actually goes against the mainstream philosophy of Beast Taming. A Beast Tamer and their Pet Beast shouldn’t get too emotionally close, or it could affect future roster updates.]

[Day after Day: That’s exactly why Su Zhi and Yu Bao are so great to watch... ]

[Butterfly Fan Bone: The so-called mainstream Beast Taming philosophy is only widely accepted in the modern era. In the Classical Era of Beast Taming, it was actually... ]

As the chat continued, the ”scholars” in the bullet comments began a grand debate on the topic of Beast Taming.

Watching the rapidly scrolling comments, the corners of Lu Dongjie’s mouth lifted into a slight smile.

To have such high viewer retention even after the match had ended was an honor for any commentator!

In fact, for the past three days, Lu Dongjie’s stream had consistently held the number one spot in the overall rankings.

—After all, viewer engagement was never directly proportional to a player’s skill level.

Some players were strong in a steady, predictable way, which audiences found boring.

This was a common criticism of modern Beast Taming tournaments: everything felt formulaic, lacking the spark of the Classical Era.

But Su Zhi’s fighting style seemed born to attract attention.

Every time you thought, ”How the hell is he gonna get out of this one?” Su Zhi would always make you shout, ”Holy hell, he can do *that*?!”

Before ending his stream, Lu Dongjie glanced at the schedule for the next day’s matches, only to raise an eyebrow slightly.

Su Zhi’s next opponent was the number three seed, Cao Mingyu, the student council president of No. 1 High School.

He knew this underclassman. An outstanding, upright, and disciplined person, he had always been a role model in the eyes of the first-year students.
