After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

”Actually, the base has something we need to seek your opinion on.” Even if Nina Jacobs hadn’t come today, he had planned to visit her in person.

Although Nina already had her suspicions, she still asked, ”What is it?”

Justin Lawson took out a document and a letter of appointment, placing them in front of her. ”This is a mission issued by the command center to all bases. Each base needs to select a number of outstanding Superpower Users to go to Arisdale Base for an assessment.

”A Tier Three Base needs to select at least six people,” Justin added. He didn’t know if Nina was willing to go, so he wanted to ask for her opinion first.

Nina looked down and carefully read through the document. It seemed this was indeed preparation for creating the combat power rankings.

”I actually think you should give it a try,” Adrian Paige strongly suggested from the side. With Nina’s strength, she would definitely make it onto the combat power rankings.

”If I participate, when will it be?” Nina asked. In this lifetime, she would strive to climb the combat power rankings.

”It’s tentatively scheduled for two months from now,” Justin replied. ”Though the exact date will depend on weather conditions and transportation.”

”If I participate, will it bring any benefits to the base?” Nina thought of Tomorrow Base, even though it still hadn’t been officially graded yet.

”There are naturally benefits, but it’s not convenient to disclose them at the moment,” Adrian said. Justin didn’t know the true purpose of this outstanding Superpower User assessment, but he did.

”Alright, I’ll participate,” Nina replied.

Justin’s expression relaxed. As long as Nina was willing to participate, this matter was practically a sure success.

Half an hour later, there was a knock on the door.

After Justin let them in, Nina was surprised to find Chelsea Walsh among the arrivals. Chelsea winked at Nina. There were two other people in front of her, one of whom was One-Eyed Buck, the man who had spoken to Nia that day.

”Commander Lawson, we already understand the situation,” said the other man, Wesley Sullivan, the director of the Weapons Research Institute. After introducing himself to Nina, he looked at Nia. ”Miss Nia, it is our honor to have you join the Weapons Research Institute.

”These two have been your fans for a long time.”

Although Wesley had a stern appearance, he was humorous and engaging in conversation. Nia quickly struck up a chat with the three of them.

”The Weapons Research Institute has now relocated inside the base and operates as a closed facility. I will also assign enough personnel to protect Nia’s safety, ensuring any suspicious individuals are spotted immediately,” Justin said. He didn’t dare underestimate Nia. Even the command center was willing to pay high prices for the weapons she crafted. Keeping Nia in City D Base would undoubtedly provide a significant boost to the base’s overall combat strength. Nina had made another massive contribution.

Walter also looked at Nia with excitement. ”Ms. Nia, we will definitely help you craft the best weapons!”

”I’d also like to learn more about your Weapons Research Institute.

”Please take care of me from now on,” Nia said with a smile. She hadn’t forgotten about commissioning City D Base to search for her mother’s whereabouts. In fact, Nina had already asked Daniel Hale to check the base’s personnel registration database a few days ago, but unfortunately, the name Nia mentioned wasn’t there.

After stepping out of the conference room, Chelsea finally activated her chatterbox mode. ”I never expected the Liaoyuan Crystal to play such a huge role this time! And oh my god, you actually know the genius girl Nia and brought her back! Do you have any idea how incredibly awesome Nia is?”

Seeing Chelsea’s excited expression, Nina couldn’t help but smile. ”Nia is amazing, but you’re amazing too.

”I’ll come visit you guys in a few days when I have some free time.”

Due to the confidentiality agreements inherent in the Weapons Research Institute’s work, the group had to come and go through a special designated channel in the parking lot beneath the office building. Nina could only walk them to the entrance of the channel. However, she still walked up to Nia and said, ”From now on, the Stellarys Team’s place is your home. You can move in whenever you want.”

”Okay.” Nia pursed her lips, looking a bit aggrieved and on the verge of tears. Nina was her very first friend, even though their acquaintance had started from a place of mutual distrust.

”Don’t worry, Nia! Everyone at the institute is super nice. Oh, right, you still don’t know how Nina rescued me back then...” Urged by Chelsea’s passionate chatter, Nia finally waved goodbye to Nina with a hint of reluctance.

The underground parking garage gradually quieted down.

Nina walked up the stairs. Just as she reached the landing, she heard a series of heavy pants. The sound was extremely intimate and suggestive. Shaking her head, she was about to leave when a familiar voice said, ”Then you have to promise me you’ll take me with you when the time comes.”

Nina wouldn’t mistake that voice. It was Renee Strong’s voice.

”Sure thing, you little temptress. I could never bear to leave you in a place like this.”

Another round of panting echoed. Nina wanted to leave, but realized the two were blocking the entrance of the stairwell. If she took just two more steps up, they would spot her.

”You aren’t just trying to go to Arisdale Base for that guy named Grant, are you? I heard he’s going too,” the man asked again.

”Don’t you believe me? I even broke up with him for you.” Renee seemed a little angry, and the man immediately began to coax her with sweet words.

Nina curled her lips into a smirk. Sounded like Liam Grant was getting cuckolded without even realizing it. However, she was also curious about who this man fooling around with Renee was. So, she took a step and continued walking up.

Renee was startled. Her eyes widened dramatically when she saw who it was. ”Who are you?! What are you doing here?”

The man immediately straightened his suit and glared at Nina with a warning look.

”Just passing by. Don’t mind me,” Nina said. She didn’t recognize this man.

Just as she was about to walk past them and leave, the man adjusted his tie with one hand and stretched out the other arm to block her path. ”Did I say you could leave?”

The man scrutinized Nina with an unfriendly gaze. He wasn’t about to let their affair get leaked just like that.

Nina found it amusing. ”What’s wrong? Can’t even afford to rent a room in the base? You sneak off to have an affair here but you’re scared of getting caught?”

These words completely proved that this woman had overheard everything between him and Renee just now.

”This area connects to the base’s exclusive channel. I’ve never seen you around here before. You wouldn’t happen to be a thief looking to steal something, would you?” As soon as the man spoke, the Superpower in his hand blasted toward Nina at point-blank range! ”I’ll do a good deed today and clean up the trash for City D Base!” As long as this woman died, no one would ever know he was fooling around here.

”Amelia Vance! Stop it, you’re no match for her!

”She’s Nina Jacobs!” Renee hadn’t expected Amelia Vance to attack so suddenly.

Amelia Vance? Nina’s gaze instantly flashed with realization. She remembered that in her previous life, this person had become a massive supply tycoon at Arisdale Base. She wondered how he could actually appear in City D Base right now.

Thinking of this, the killing move forming in Nina’s hand abruptly reversed. She couldn’t just kill this person outright right now.

Meanwhile, upon hearing the name Nina Jacobs, Amelia Vance instantly felt a deep sense of dread. The person who had held back the zombie horde alongside Adrian Paige these past few days was named Nina Jacobs. She was a Dual System Intermediate Superpower User.

However, even though Nina had pulled her punch, Amelia Vance’s body was still sent flying heavily into the wall behind him.

”You attacked first. You can’t blame me,” Nina said helplessly, standing in place.
