After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Seeing no greed on Nina Jacobs’s face, the man was actually the one who looked confused.

He thought she would kill him for his treasure.

After all, he was incredibly weak right now.

”I’ll give it to you, and you save my life. How about it?”

the man said.

”You’re afraid I’ll kill you, right?

But I accept your terms.”

Nina Jacobs bent down and picked up the gray cloth.

The cloth looked completely unremarkable. She tried unfolding it as the man had described and covered him with it.

A moment later, the man’s figure truly vanished from sight.

But if she reached out, she could still feel a person in that spot.

”Does this thing have a time limit?”

Nina Jacobs asked.

”It does. It’s called Cloud Concealing Silk. Its effect lasts for... forty-five minutes.”

’Forty-five minutes. It seemed a bit useless to her, but she could still keep it and use it if an opportunity arose in the future.’

Nina Jacobs kept her word, and the man soon received aid.

Some Healing Potion was added to the warm water he drank. Nina Jacobs also had Wayne Warner wrap him in a blanket and place him in the warm passenger seat of the armored vehicle.

MEOW.

With the sudden appearance of a chillingly cold human, Lexy seemed displeased and immediately leaped into the rear cargo area.

After reclining the passenger seat, all three of them got out of the vehicle.

They had parked the vehicle inside the first floor of a house, where Nina Jacobs decided they would spend the night.

On nights in this extreme cold, the roads easily became covered in ice, so they always stopped traveling as soon as it got dark.

The house they had chosen had a sizable fireplace, which Nina Jacobs instantly lit by conjuring a blazing flame.

She also coated the floor and walls with a layer of her Fire Element Superpower.

Gradually, the room no longer felt like an ice cellar.

Meanwhile, Wayne Warner had already set up a power source and a pot, and was cooking some steaming hot instant noodles.

Nina Jacobs took out several cold-proof sleeping bags from the cargo area. These sleeping bags had a built-in, fully charged heating layer and offered excellent insulation, capable of withstanding the severe cold of -40 degrees.

Combined with the rising temperature in the room, it was more than enough for them.

Of course, she had also prepared a sufficiently warm cat bed for Lexy.

”We can finally lie down to sleep tonight.”

Nia actually felt a sense of warmth in this temporary, abandoned room. She had never eaten something like instant noodles growing up, but now, just the smell was making her mouth water.

On top of that, Wayne Warner had added plenty of luncheon meat, dried tofu skin, and dried green beans, making it look even more tempting.

Nina Jacobs got up and went to open the vehicle’s door.

But when Nia saw the man’s condition inside, she jumped in fright.

Before, the man’s face was just deathly pale and bloodless.

But now, his body and face were severely swollen. Blood-red blisters had formed on some parts of his skin, and the subcutaneous bruising had turned black.

The man didn’t look like he was feeling any better, either; even moving a finger felt numb and painful.

Nina Jacobs, however, said calmly, ”This is a typical sign of the initial recovery from frostbite. He’ll be fine once he gets through this period.”

In her previous life, she had seen many rescued frostbite patients who were in even worse condition. Some people, after being frozen for too long, would suffer rapid organ failure and die even after receiving treatment.

Others needed amputations to survive.

This was all because frostbite leads to a series of conditions, including necrosis of the body’s internal and external tissues.

Without the Healing Potion, she couldn’t have guaranteed she could save him either.

”You... knew this?”

the man asked, his expression stoic despite the pain.

”I’ve just read a bit about basic medicine,”

Nina Jacobs said.

”Thank you. My name is Ethan Young.”

Hearing Nina Jacobs’s words, he also relaxed a little.

’Ethan Young?’

Nina Jacobs began to suspect that the Ethan Young before her might be the same person she had heard about in her past life.

In her past life, Ethan Young ranked tenth on Drakonia’s power rankings.

And she remembered he was a Dual Element Superpower User...

Wayne Warner was a good cook, and the room was soon filled with the aroma of food.

Nia brought Ethan Young a warm bowl of instant noodles. Ethan Young, no longer caring about his physical discomfort, immediately began to eat.

”You’re really lucky to have been saved by Nina Jacobs.

But then again, she saved me too.”

Nia looked at the miserable-looking Ethan Young and seemed to see her former self.

’So her name is Nina Jacobs.’

Ethan Young’s hand, holding the chopsticks, paused. He looked toward Nina Jacobs and saw her feeding her cat by the fireplace.

The firelight cast a warm glow on her figure, as if coating her in a soft light.

”Yeah. I’m not dead yet, and I can’t die.”

Ethan Young drank the last drop of soup and realized he seemed to be able to get up and walk.

This was probably because Nina Jacobs had made him drink a lot of Electrolyte Water.

”Still, thank you for saving me,”

Ethan Young said as he slowly managed to walk over to Nina Jacobs.

”Don’t mention it. It was just a transaction.”

Nina Jacobs stood up. Lexy was almost done eating.

”Where are you guys heading next?”

It was the first time Ethan Young had seen a survivor traveling with a cat, let alone feeding it.

Since the apocalypse began, cat and dog food had also become resources that humans fought over. In the eyes of survivors, pet food with nutritional content was more precious than simple grain.

’Maybe this Nina Jacobs really isn’t as cold-blooded as I first thought.’

But he also knew that if he hadn’t honestly revealed the existence of the Cloud Concealing Silk, she definitely wouldn’t have saved him.

”City D Base.”

Nina Jacobs answered truthfully.

”Can... can I come with you?”

It was still a long way to City D, the environment outside was harsh, and he had no more bargaining chips.

’It’s best to find a base and settle down.’

”You’ve never been to a base before? What’s your Superpower?”

Nina Jacobs asked.

Ethan Young shook his head. ”I’m a Water and Earth Dual Element user. I went to Riventon Base twice to procure supplies.

For certain reasons, my family and I settled in an uninhabited village... but later, they were all killed.”

”Was it because of the Cloud Concealing Silk?”

Nina Jacobs guessed. The Cloud Concealing Silk could be considered an unparalleled Exotic Treasure. If its existence were known, it would certainly attract people who would kill for it.

’A Water and Earth Dual Element user... it seems this Ethan Young really is that person.’

”Since I’ve already agreed to give it to you, I won’t ask for it back.

I just hope that no one else finds out about the Cloud Concealing Silk.”

The reason Ethan Young still wanted to live was for the chance to get revenge.

But the Cloud Concealing Silk was also something his family had died protecting; he didn’t want to see it destroyed.

”Since it’s mine now, I will definitely protect it.

As long as you don’t go around talking about it, it will be safe. But I want to know, who exactly were the people who tried to steal this Cloud Concealing Silk?”

Nina Jacobs asked.

Ethan Young, who was ranked 10th in her past life, had once achieved many military merits with the command headquarters. But later, a rumor spread that he had suddenly betrayed them and killed the entire family of one of the headquarters’ personnel.

After that, she never heard about Ethan Young again, and his name was removed from the power rankings.

’If the person in front of me is the same one, could his enemies be in the command headquarters?’

Ethan Young thought Nina Jacobs was worried that group would come back to fight for the Cloud Concealing Silk, so he explained:

”A fake Cloud Concealing Silk was burned in front of them, so they probably won’t come looking for it again. But I don’t know who those people were, only that they seemed to be a religious organization.”

’A religious organization?’

’Could it be the Mystic Sect?’

’In that case, it’s very likely that members of the Mystic Sect are in the command headquarters, and Ethan Young just doesn’t know it yet.’
