My Youth Began With Him

Before Su Yu could respond, the young woman stood up shyly and smiled. “Hi, my name is Meng Wanying.”

Su Yu didn’t reply; he just stared sternly at the young woman, who avoided his gaze awkwardly.

Just then, Mrs. Su walked out of the kitchen. She smiled. “You’re back! An’s here as well? Nice to see you again.”

“Good evening, Mrs. Su,” An replied quietly.

“Come and have a seat, I’ll get us some fruit. Oh right, Yu, I bet you don’t remember her, do you? I couldn’t either! Do you remember Uncle Meng? His father was in the army with your grandpa and this is his daughter. I remember that she used to come to visit when she was younger and often brought you toy shotguns.”

“Oh… I don’t remember her.” Su Yu shook his head.

Your memory is as awful as mine! Anyways, she’s Uncle Meng’s daughter. Wanying, this is Su Yu, my son. He’s more handsome in person, isn’t he?” Mrs. Su walked up and put her hand on the young woman’s shoulder.

Yes, he looks much younger in person.” Meng Wanying smiled, and Su Yu looked down awkwardly.

“Perfect timing, Yu, dinner is ready.”

Before Su Yu could say anything, Mrs. Su grabbed Meng Wanying by the wrist and ushered the three of them into the dining room.

An was a man who knew his place; upon realizing Mrs. Su’s intentions, he murmured quietly behind Su Yu. “President Su, I’ll be heading home now.”

“I will break your leg if you leave.”

An:”… but you have a houseguest.”

Su Yu: “Even so. Sit down and eat, we’ll leave together afterward.”

Finally, An understood why Su Yu asked him to come to the Su Family Mansion for dinner – the latter was using him as a shield!

“Get over here and eat.” Su Yu ordered under his breath, and An immediately sat down next to him without saying another word.

“Mom, where’s Dad?”

“He’s out with a few government officials.”

“Oh, what about Grandpa?” Su Yu asked without looking up.

“He’s still at a conference in Jing City and won’t be back for another week.”

“Interesting. If neither of them is home, who brought her here?” Su Yu asked, and Meng Wanying’s face immediately turned rosy from embarrassment.

“What do you know? Do you know what Wanying does for a living?” Mrs. Su asked mysteriously.

“How could I know? I’m not a fortune teller!”

“Wanying’s an army doctor who graduated from Jing Medical University, the best medical school in our country! She’s working at the First Army Hospital, she’s actually colleagues with Dr. Luo! Isn’t she amazing?”

“Oh,” Su Yu replied calmly.

“I was asking you a question, isn’t she amazing?” Mrs. Su asked.

“I guess.” To be honest, Su Yu wasn’t impressed. Meng Wanying went to the best schools, of course she would be working at one of the best hospitals. But Huo Mian was different; she became an amazing doctor all on her own.

“Wanying’s here to operate on an official at the army hospital. I asked her to come for dinner after hearing about this.”

“Oh, I see. She seems busy. I can get 汪 driver to take you back to the army hospital after dinner.” Su Yu said to Meng Wanying.

“I…” She bit down on her lips and didn’t seem to know how to reply.
