My Youth Began With Him

Around Qin Chu’s right knee was a giant scar of an injury… No wonder he seemed to walk slower than usual… she could imagine how severely he was injured…

Huo Mian cried as she reached out and gently touched his wound. Her voice was raspy as she asked, “How many surgeries did you undergo for the scar to be like this?”

“I only underwent four surgeries, but they weren’t curative… There are seven nails in it, and because the knee cap doesn’t regenerate, I had no choice but to try all the technology there was in the States. Even so, my knee still couldn’t fully recover… Because there wasn’t a lot of similar cases, I was basically a lab rat…” Qin Chu said as he smiled nonchalantly. He didn’t go into specific details because he didn’t want Huo Mian to worry too much.

But Huo Mian’s heart throbbed… As a doctor herself, she knew that no matter how easy Qin Chu made the process sound, it must have felt like hell.

He underwent four reconstructive surgeries that all failed… All because knee caps could not regenerate.

Not everyone had that degree of determination.

Most importantly, Qin Chu’s surgeries didn’t affect his ability to walk at all. She really couldn’t tell, aside from the fact that he walked slower than usual. What kind of dark and painful era did he go through to get to where he was today?

“Mian, don’t cry, my heart will ache.” Qin Chu couldn’t bear to see Huo Mian cry; in the past, whenever she did something bad, he would wave his white flag as soon as she cried, whether or not she was faking it.

“It must have really hurt…” Huo Mian gently grazed his knee, her voice cracking up.

“It’s okay… It’s all in the past now.”

“You got this injury during the plane crash?” Huo Mian looked up.

“Yeah…”

“I’m going to gut Huo Siqian…” At that moment, Huo Mian felt a fury rushed over her, and she immediately got up to run away.

Qin Chu, however, grabbed her and hugged her, as tight as he could. “Don’t be rash, Mian…”

“I’m going to kill him… how can he still be alive after all he’s done in the past? Why is God so unfair, why do bad people get good endings?” Huo Mian wailed.

Qin Chu whispered gently in her ear, “I’ll deal with Huo Siqian, I promise. You’ll never have to shoulder anything for me again, Mian. You’ve been through so much over the last few years. In the future, no matter what happens, just stand behind me, okay?”

“Honey…” Huo Mian looked up at Qin Chu, who smiled. “I’m really fine, dummy, stop crying and don’t worry about me…”

“Honey, I’m going to cure your leg. I’m going to make sure you’re completely cured,” Huo Mian said with determination, and he nodded. “Mhm, I believe you. After all, my wife is a genius doctor, right?”

Upon hearing this, a laugh broke out from the tears.

After they showered and got into bed, Huo Mian rested her head on Qin Chu’s chest, quietly listening to the sound of his heartbeat. She hadn’t felt this content and safe in years…

“Tell me what happened on the day of the plane crash… What really happened that day?” she gently said.
