Celestial Night Emperor

Qin Tianxuan burst through the door of the Police Department Chief’s office.

“Everyone get out. I need to speak with your chief alone!”

Qin Tianxuan’s words carried a terrifying aura, and everyone scurried out in fear.

The door slammed shut.

Qin Tianxuan stared at the Police Department Chief. “Chen Shaohua’s case. Tell me everything you know, right now!”

The Police Department Chief seemed stunned.

Then, his body began to tremble.

He mumbled to himself, ‘Finally… is someone finally going to do something about this?’

Qin Tianxuan roared, “Speak clearly!”

The Police Department Chief gritted his teeth. “I know his story very well. Years ago, after retiring from the military, he came back to his hometown of Jianghua City to marry his fiancée. But her family had become rich. Their business grew, and they were moving to Shangdu.”

Qin Tianxuan gritted his teeth. “And then?”

The Police Department Chief shook his head. “Then he followed them to Shangdu City. Not long after, he was carried back, covered in injuries. He didn’t make it through the night. It was a tragedy! His parents wanted to find out what happened, so the old couple went to Shangdu as well, but they got into a car accident on the way…”

At this point, a glint appeared in the chief’s eyes. “There was something very suspicious about that accident. I insisted on investigating it thoroughly, but the Police Department in Shangdu suppressed it!”

BAM!

Qin Tianxuan slammed his fist down, shattering the large wooden desk in front of him!

“Tell me the truth! As an investigator for the Police Department, how much evidence have you actually gathered?”

The Police Department Chief flinched in fear, then gritted his teeth and turned to his own desk.

He glanced around cautiously before carefully pulling a thick, dust-covered stack of files from a hidden compartment under the floorboards.

“Sir! If you’re willing to get justice for the Chen Family, then I must be bold and ask: are you afraid of those powerful figures?”

‘The dark forces and powerful people behind Chen Shaohua’s case were absolutely shocking!’

By producing this hidden evidence, the Police Department Chief was betting his entire life and fortune.

That’s why he had to ask.

With a SWISH, Qin Tianxuan brandished a military dagger. “Shaohua was my brother. He has suffered this injustice for eight years! The entire Northern Domain Battle Department owes him a life debt. So, no matter who is behind the murder of his family, even if it’s the emperor himself, I will destroy them!”

His words were powerful and resolute.

With a WHOOSH, the dagger plunged into the floorboards, vibrating with a low hum.

The Police Department Chief held up the files with both hands, his eyes shining with a bright light. “I believe you, sir! You will definitely bring justice to everyone! Here is all the evidence!”

Qin Tianxuan snatched them and began reading through them quickly.

The Police Department Chief, however, slowly lit a cigarette. “Back then, while investigating their crimes, I lost three of my men. One of them… was my own son!”

Qin Tianxuan’s body jolted!

He looked at the white-haired Police Department Chief. “Why didn’t you report it sooner?”

Tears were already streaming down the chief’s face. “I started investigating secretly after my son died. Reporting it was useless. Their influence is too great. If I hadn’t spent all these years sucking up, giving gifts, and fighting to keep this position in the Police Department, I’m afraid I would have been killed long ago!”

He crushed the cigarette butt, straightened his back, and accused them in a hoarse voice.

“The primary culprit: Yuan Shanhe, Vice Governor of Shangdu, former Chief Inspector of the Imperial Capital, and son-in-law of the Daqin Royal Family!”

“The primary culprit: Song Hongjun, former boss of Wanhua Company in Jianghua City, now Chairman of Wanhe Group in Shangdu City!”

“The primary culprit: Du Jinrong, President of the Cyan Mountain Commerce Association in Shangdu!”

…

These were the three main culprits. The Song Family was the family of Shaohua’s former fiancée. When they couldn’t break the engagement, they secretly hired Yuan Shanhe and Du Jinrong, using forces from both the government and the underworld to murder Chen Shaohua’s entire family.

Not only that, under the control of their protectors and shadowy forces, they assassinated the Police Department personnel who participated in the investigation!

The Police Department Chief’s men and his son died during the second investigation!

The evidence the Police Department Chief held, though fragmented and incomplete, and not enough to bring them to justice directly, laid out the entire incident with perfect clarity!

After reporting all this, the Police Department Chief collapsed to the floor.

His hair had turned white over the years. Just like the Chen Family’s fellow villagers, all he wanted was justice!

But this justice was a full eight years late!

“Sir, I’m an old man now. After my son died, my wife cried until she went blind from grief, and eventually… she jumped from a building. I have nothing left. But a small fry like me can’t touch them!”

The Police Department Chief reached out, grasping feebly at the air. “I can’t sleep at night. I wish I could just take a gun to Shangdu and shoot them all dead!”

“But if I did that, the names of Chen Shaohua, my men, and my son would never be cleared!”

“So now, this nobody is asking you for one thing! Can justice still be served?”

Li Qingcheng, who had been standing at the door, was already in tears after hearing everything.

The suffering and injustice of the world were things she could never have known in the Prince’s Mansion in the Imperial Capital.

‘In that moment, she realized her own world was too perfect. How much of this kind of injustice existed in reality?’

At that moment, Qin Tianxuan slowly knelt before the Police Department Chief.

“For my brother, Shaohua, you upheld justice and sacrificed your entire family! Please accept my bow of respect!”

The Police Department Chief was shocked and reached out to help him up.

But Qin Tianxuan insisted on bowing three full times.

Then he looked up. “Shaohua’s justice, and everyone else’s! I will deliver it!”

「That night, the stars were dim.」

Qin Tianxuan felt no desire to sleep. He comforted the Police Department Chief and had Li Qingcheng collect the evidence.

Then, he followed Chen Shaohua’s uncle to his grave under the night sky.

Shaohua’s parents had been honest people their whole lives. They sent their son to the Northern Domain Battle Department to serve Da Xia, only to die under mysterious circumstances.

Their graves were right next to Chen Shaohua’s, silently watching over their son even in death.

This was the deepest love of a parent.

The cemetery was overgrown with weeds, and crows cawed mournfully from a large tree.

Suddenly, a sliver of moonlight broke through the clouds, casting its light upon Chen Shaohua’s tombstone.

There was no name on the tombstone, only a world-shaking sentence: “Northern Domain Battle Department, a humble soldier under the Night Emperor!”

Ten words, simple and pure!

Seeing those ten words, tears streamed down Qin Tianxuan’s face like rain!

He fell to his knees and kowtowed, the military dagger in his hand cutting into his palm.

“Brother, I’ve come to pay my respects on behalf of all our comrades in the Northern Domain. This is the blood of me, the Night Emperor!”

“We once swore an oath: to bleed together and die together!”

“I have failed you, brother. I will avenge you with my own hands!”

Li Qingcheng came over with a bottle of liquor. She knew this man needed the strong spirits of the Northern Domain.

Qin Tianxuan drank the entire bottle.

Getting to his feet, he looked up at the starry sky. “We leave tonight. Arrange for a private plane!”

Yuan Shanhe, Song Hongjun, Du Jinrong!

‘Do you really think there’s no one in this world who can stop you?’
