The Frail Guide Who Devoured an Entire Pollution Zone

Chapter 73: Chapter 73: A Hard-to-Voice Request

”What are you doing here? Why didn’t you go back and rest?”

Xu Qingsui had felt she was in the way earlier, so she found an excuse to leave on her own.

Lu Jingyu could tell she had done it on purpose. He had planned to check on Xu Qingsui after seeing Tian Teng, but he hadn’t expected to run into her in the infirmary.

”I ran into Meng Donghua on my way back just now. He said Tian Teng was awake, so I came over.”

Lu Jingyu nodded. ”I’ll go check on his condition first.”

As he spoke, Lu Jingyu started toward the ward, but Xu Qingsui pulled him back again.

”You’d better not go in. He was only conscious for a few minutes before he slipped back into a coma. His condition is too serious. We should let him rest as much as possible.”

Hearing Xu Qingsui’s words, Lu Jingyu frowned again. Just then, Meng Donghua also walked out, and Lu Jingyu hurriedly asked about the situation.

”Donghua, what’s really going on with Tian Teng? Why is he unconscious again?”

Meng Donghua, who had been looking anxious, relaxed slightly when he saw Lu Jingyu.

”Captain, I was just about to look for you. You’re right on time.”

”Tian Teng’s spirit body suffered a severe impact. The situation is quite serious, which is why he’s still unconscious. I just spoke with the doctor. To stabilize his condition, he needs an injection of a psychotropic drug. But since the big battle with the Mutants in the West District, the injuries were so severe that we’ve run out of many medications, including psychotropics, so...”

As he explained the situation, Meng Donghua looked at Lu Jingyu with some embarrassment.

Currently, Lu Jingyu was single-handedly supporting the Heiyu Alliance’s entire medical supply.

In this fractured society, that was undoubtedly the most difficult task.

He felt guilty for always putting all the pressure on Lu Jingyu.

As expected, after hearing Meng Donghua’s words, Lu Jingyu took a deep breath.

But that was all. He then said to Meng Donghua, ”Leave this to me. I’ll figure something out, but I’ll need time. Do your best to buy me as much time as you can on your end.”

Meng Donghua nodded joyfully. ”The doctor said that as long as we let Tian Teng rest in his comatose state, the condition will spread very slowly. He should be able to hold on for a while.”

With that said, there was no longer any need for Lu Jingyu to go inside.

After nodding, he glanced at Xu Qingsui, and the two of them left the infirmary together.

Walking side by side, Lu Jingyu’s eyes were deep in thought as he pondered something, and Xu Qingsui couldn’t bear to interrupt him.

Just as she was about to head back to her own quarters and let Lu Jingyu continue thinking, he called out to her.

”Do you remember when I told you there was something I wanted to ask for your help with?”

Xu Qingsui nodded. Of course she hadn’t forgotten about that.

His vagueness had caused a misunderstanding on her part, which was only cleared up after he returned.

He had been so hesitant and unclear about it, which made her all the more curious. What could possibly be so difficult for Lu Jingyu to talk about?

Seeing that Lu Jingyu was finally about to say it, Xu Qingsui felt a flicker of anticipation. ’What on earth does he want me to do?’

”Well, the situation is a bit complicated, and I’m not sure where to start...”

As soon as Lu Jingyu started speaking, Xu Qingsui’s hopes fell, but at the same time, her curiosity grew even stronger.

’What in the world could make the decisive, resolute Lu Jingyu so hesitant to speak?’

”I’d like to ask you to come with me somewhere first. I’ll do my best to explain on the way. As long as you accompany me, I’m confident I can bring back more medical supplies.”

’So it’s related to medical supplies. But what role do I play in all this?’

Xu Qingsui was itching with curiosity, more eager than ever to understand the situation.

And given the current circumstances, it seemed the only way to find out was to go on this trip with Lu Jingyu.

She didn’t hesitate any longer and immediately agreed.

”Let’s not waste any time, then. Tian Teng is still waiting for the medicine. We should set off quickly!”

Xu Qingsui was just too embarrassed to say it outright: she was dying to know what Lu Jingyu wanted her help with, and how they were going to get the medical supplies.

Lu Jingyu didn’t hesitate either and nodded. ”Alright, let me give a few instructions, and then we’ll leave.”

”If you need to pack anything, go back and get ready. I’ll come find you in a bit.”

Xu Qingsui wanted to say she had nothing to prepare, but then she considered that Lu Jingyu’s instructions might be something she wasn’t supposed to hear, so she kept quiet.

But just as the two were about to part ways, a team member ran over.

”Captain, Elder Qi Qin says he has something to tell you. He requests your presence in the assembly hall.”

Lu Jingyu’s brow tightened. ’Qi Qin has been showing up at the Alliance far too frequently lately. What does he want? And who is he here for this time?’

He was displeased, but he still had to show the man some respect.

He said to Xu Qingsui, ”Why don’t you go back and wait for me first. I’ll come find you as soon as I’ve handled this.”

Xu Qingsui nodded. Watching Lu Jingyu leave with a frown, she didn’t dwell on it, since she still didn’t know much about the inner workings of the Heiyu Alliance.

Arriving at the assembly hall, Lu Jingyu walked in with a dark expression on his face.

Qi Qin was already waiting for him. Seeing Lu Jingyu’s face, he couldn’t help but give a wry smile.

But he quickly forced a smile and said, ”Jing Yu, relax. I’m not here to trade on my old face and beg you for something this time. You don’t need to look so grim.”

Lu Jingyu’s expression didn’t change. ”I have urgent business to attend to. If you have something to say, just say it.”

Sensing Lu Jingyu’s attitude towards him, Qi Qin’s wry smile remained.

But the man had made his point quite clearly, so there was no need for him to beat around the bush.

”Here’s the thing. This time, I’m mainly here to pass on a message. For the sake of the Alliance’s development, those old fellows invited an S Level guide from the central city district. They couldn’t be bothered to come themselves, so they had me make the introductions.”

Lu Jingyu’s brows furrowed again. ’An S Level guide is coming here?’

’And those old guys are the ones who recruited them?’

He was deeply skeptical, feeling that there was some kind of conspiracy afoot.

”We are all elders of the Alliance. We’ve watched it grow from the beginning, so of course, we want what’s best for it and hope more outstanding people will join. Don’t overthink it.”

”How about this: let’s have the S Level guide come out first. I’ll introduce you two. You’ll be working together from now on, so you can get to know each other better over time.”

After Qi Qin finished speaking, the sound of footsteps came from behind the screen at the back of the assembly hall. Lu Jingyu looked up to see a graceful figure walking out from behind it.

When he got a clear look at the figure’s face, Lu Jingyu’s eyes widened in an instant.

”This is...”

”It’s you!”

Lu Jingyu’s exclamation cut off Qi Qin, who had been about to make the introduction.

The latter looked at Lu Jingyu, astonished. ”You two know each other?”
