Apocalypse Villainess? Nah, I'm Nice

News that hundreds of zombies had appeared outside the barracks and attacked the soldiers of the First Division finally reached Leo Joyce.

The report came from one of Victor Caldwell’s men.

He was one of the men left behind to guard the Second Division’s camp.

The First and Second Division camps were a good distance apart, but the zombies’ roars were piercing. He had snuck over to investigate, never expecting to find such a shocking scene. Fortunately, he was a fast runner, or he surely would have been attacked by the zombies.

Upon hearing the news, Victor Caldwell didn’t dare delay for a moment and immediately reported it to Leo Joyce.

As for Leo Joyce, who was waiting on the outskirts of The Citadel to observe the attack’s progress, he had been the City Lord for several years. Though his mind was in turmoil, he wouldn’t lose his composure in front of Victor Caldwell.

Seeing the poorly concealed fear on the man’s face, he said sternly, ”Continue your command! I need time to devise a countermeasure!”

”...Yes, City Lord.”

Victor Caldwell’s body went rigid.

’Hundreds of zombies... Can the First Division hold them off?’ He had no confidence whatsoever. Right now, he actually wished he could release Keith Preston to command the battle against the zombies. ’After all, if even the First Division is defeated, then all of Southreach is probably doomed! But I also know that if I release Keith Preston, the first person he’ll want to kill is me.’

Victor Caldwell left Leo Joyce’s car with a bitter smile.

Only now did he truly see his own incompetence and cowardice. He didn’t even dare suggest to Leo Joyce that they should concentrate all their forces and deal with the zombies before doing anything else.

’And how on earth did so many zombies suddenly appear in the city?!’

Leo Joyce was wondering the same thing.

Unlike Victor Caldwell, however, he wasn’t completely clueless.

He only had to think for a moment to guess that the appearance of these zombies was likely connected to Peter and his group!

For a moment, Leo Joyce couldn’t quite describe the feeling in his heart.

’So I was the one who let the wolf in the house!’

’They came under the guise of helping me reclaim the City Lord’s seat, but they used some unknown method to secretly transport so many zombies into the city. This is a prelude to the city’s annihilation!’

’What should I do?’

’Let it happen, or find another way?’

Leo Joyce looked up at the Second Division soldiers fiercely attacking The Citadel’s defensive walls and battling the guards. Because a significant number of men had been dispatched to The Southern Front, the Second Division’s numbers were greatly reduced; those who remained were not nearly enough to completely control the factions within the city. That was why he had accepted Peter’s offer of help, but he never imagined it would backfire so spectacularly.

Peter had taken his men to the Hunting Party’s gathering area. ’Before, I thought that if they controlled that place, it would be the same as me controlling it. Now, however, I don’t think that way anymore!’

’But I’m not willing to let Maisie Joyce and Keith Preston off the hook either!’

After some thought, Leo Joyce straightened his spine.

He had Ivan Warren tell Victor Caldwell to take The Citadel as quickly as possible, while he himself took a team and drove toward the Southreach City Guard’s headquarters.

But before he had even left the outskirts of The Citadel, the car he was in was suddenly attacked!

It was as if countless glinting blades rushed toward his car, shredding the door in an instant and exposing him. Those Flying Knives, thin as a cicada’s wings, hovered in the air, eager for action, seeming ready to pounce on him at any moment!

”Leo Joyce! So you’re not dead!”

Claire Chapman approached from a distance, his expression a mixture of surprise and disgust.

He had actually entered Southreach a few days ago, but he hadn’t contacted Maisie Joyce.

He was here to focus all his efforts on finding Paige Summers. He figured that if he let Maisie Joyce know he was here, he’d just get bogged down with other matters, so he had decided to operate covertly.

After several days of searching, he had finally gotten a lead this morning.

One of his subordinates reported that a woman from a civilian residential area said her employer’s family had a mistress who was far along in her pregnancy. The woman’s description of her matched Paige Summers, and the supposed master of the house was very likely Shawn Monroe.

He immediately took his men and rushed over, only to find that the pair had already left without a trace.

Originally, he had planned to find more people to ask around.

But just then, the chaos in the city escalated. There were reports that the zombie had escaped to this area.

People began to evacuate, and the scene was utter chaos.

He knew it would be impossible to question anyone under these conditions, so he could only turn his search to more stable districts. After all, if Shawn Monroe was evacuating with Paige Summers, he would definitely head for a more remote area.

Unexpectedly, as he was passing nearby, he discovered that The Citadel was under siege, and the commander, Victor Caldwell, was clearly taking orders from the person in this very car.
