Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 2784: Chapter 2779: 13 Days’ Talk (36)

Climb through the window?

Wayne Falter’s movements were so straightforward that Fu Qian immediately understood.

Exactly, now this is more like sneaking in, the previous scene was rather too leisurely.

The double wooden window was both high and small, but at that moment Fu Qian did not hesitate at all and was already swiftly up.

Based on the real-time positioning adjustment, he was also very certain that Wayne Falter wasn’t lying; the stairs at the end of the corridor did indeed lead to the doctor’s office.

It must be said, this place was definitely quite familiar to him, strolling leisurely all the way and not encountering a single person.

As if he had walked through countless times in those many dark nights.

Thud!

In between his thoughts, Wayne Falter also landed steadily behind him.

”Don’t worry, there aren’t many people here usually, even the staff don’t like coming.”

He casually reminded them not to be too cautious.

”Is there any special reason for that?”

Fu Qian responded instantly, continuing to maintain the casual chatting posture from earlier.

...Aren’t you being too careless? I told you to relax, not to be so relaxed.

Wayne Falter was somewhat speechless at that moment.

”Actually, there’s nothing too special; it’s mainly because Servis seldom comes here.”

However, for Fu Qian’s query, he contemplated briefly before attempting to answer.

”Interesting, just because he rarely comes, everyone instead worries about occasionally encountering him while neglecting their duties?”

At first glance, Wayne Falter’s reasoning seemed somewhat illogical.

The leader rarely comes, logically it’s a good place for the lower employees to slack off, yet a group of people still prefer not to stay here?

But Fu Qian substituted briefly and related with a bit of empathy.

There’s a term called the Sword of Damocles, never present but always posing a threat, which can equally exert immense psychological pressure,

The core issue is the doctor’s exceedingly mysterious whereabouts, as Lady Trish said, they practically refresh at random coordinates.

To avoid getting caught slacking, it’s reasonable for the staff to prefer fieldwork.

...

”I’m increasingly thinking that you really fit in with this place.”

Having failed to sell the mystery from beginning to end, Wayne Falter’s reaction was particularly notable at that moment.

Rather than being surprised by the keen insight of the person before him, it was more about complex emotions, like seeing the demeanor of a seasoned patient.

”You exaggerate, which is why I said earlier that I like this place; coming here feels like coming home.”

Fu Qian, meanwhile, seemed entirely unaware of whether it was a compliment or insult, even savoring the quirky minds he encountered along the way.

”Very well... so who do you think is behind the door, would it be the situation you prefer?”

Wayne Falter appeared to finally struggle a bit, having no choice but to bring up the main business to deflect.

With their playful interactions, they had already arrived at the end of the corridor, and from the semi-buried window, one could even see people moving outside.

And finally stepping onto the stairs leading to the doctor’s office, as if walking into an abyss, he asked a question that Fu Qian should have been curious about.

”No one.”

And this supposedly difficult question, Fu Qian answered instantly.

...

”You hope that the room is empty behind the door?” ℯ

The impact was quite significant at that moment; Wayne Falter missed a step and almost fell.

The key was that the other party answered without hesitation, as if the answer had long been settled, making it hard to doubt it being a joke.

”Yes, otherwise it would ruin the atmosphere of this place.”

In comparison, Fu Qian’s pace remained leisurely, not only confirming but even offering a reason.

”I’m interested in this place because of the special ecosystem built around Lord Servis... if it changes just to welcome me, it would ruin the charm.”

The reason was simple yet abstract—precisely because there’s no one in the office, I’m more fascinated by the place.

If there is actually someone inside to welcome, regardless if it’s Servis himself, it feels less desirable.

”So you think I was joking with you earlier?”

Even though abstractness wasn’t the key, after spending some time comprehending the implications of Fu Qian’s words, Wayne Falter had discovered the exaggerated subtext within, his eyes filled with disbelief at that moment.

No one behind the door meant the previous mention of awaiting meetings was false, thus the saying ”game over” becomes untrustworthy.

”Is that not acceptable?”

Fu Qian seemed to find his surprise exaggerated, turning to stare at him and curiously asking.

...

Fixating straight on Fu Qian, Wayne Falter’s gaze was almost a bit dazed at that moment, long silent.

But the highly regarded Fu Qian didn’t think he genuinely crashed, leaning towards the possibility of massive calculations going on wildly, putting the display in screen saver mode.

Nor could he totally blame him; this erratic rhythm indeed made it difficult to keep pace.

[Is it not acceptable for there to be no one behind the door?]

This question once posed, hinted that he still didn’t wish to end, aiming to partake in more sessions with the director, leveraging another 180-degree turn—Wayne Falter was in fact righteous at heart, what he said before might not be a joke, but wasn’t true.

He was probing.

No matter his unclear identity, with little interaction, before expending resources to send himself away, probing the zen heart in this fashion was necessary.

If it didn’t meet the ideal standard, it needn’t be wasted.

In any case, the situation was again rewritten.

While Wayne Falter demonstrated competence all along, in prior evaluations, he was more inclined to consider himself as a capable lieutenant of the director.

For his disruptive rhythm driving, he was hastily thrust forward as an answer.

Despite commendable performance all the way, unless he himself was the ”director,” adapting randomly to such a big shift without instruction was evidently challenging.

”Is it that door?”

Fu Qian didn’t hurry, instead glancing downward while casually confirming.

Standing at that stairwell, part of the lower layout was already visible.

The ambiance was undeniably distinguished, whether it was the ground or the decor, markedly different from elsewhere.

Coupled with the wholly obstructed view, it exuded a laboratory-like atmosphere.

And at the doorway of the first room, an inconspicuous copper plate hung there.

Although the writing wasn’t visible, it was still eye-catching.

Hmm...

Unfortunately, Wayne Falter seemed under too much pressure.

Not even relaxing through idle chat, at one moment he seemed to recall something, reaching into his inner coat pocket to produce an object.

It was a light golden note, folded neatly, appearing never to have been opened—and now it was.

As Fu Qian instantly recognized it as identical to the note held by a female staff member, Wayne Falter didn’t hand it over but opened it himself to read.

”Indeed... the office is empty.”

After carefully scanning with his gaze twice, he looked up, genuinely agreeing with Fu Qian’s statement.
