Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 459: Chapter 459 Wasteland Part (21)_1 Chapter 459: Chapter 459 Wasteland Part (21)_1 In the midst of a sudden cry, Kelson and Sybil almost looked up at the same time.

Clearly, as demigods with keen perception, they had heard it too.

Yet the sound was strange, seemingly like the agonizing scream of the dying, but there was an indescribable sense of relief in it.

“It’s our people, the remaining group of three, still exploring another area,”

Sybil nodded slightly, making a judgment.

“Judging from the voice, they seem to have been killed, it looks like there are indeed some potential threats here.”

Across from her, Kelson also nodded, smiling.

“Let’s set off, to see what exactly happened.”

In the face of this highly probable casualty event, the demeanor and tone of the two demigods were as casual as discussing what to eat for dinner.

Of course, it wasn’t just them; after Kelson gave the order, the people around also nodded in agreement, their expressions serene.

Including Fu Qian.

Although he did not verbally echo the sentiment, Fu Qian could likewise sense the lack of ripples in his own heart.

It was a rather strange feeling, knowing that there was something wrong with his current state, yet still immersed in that casual ease, unable to break free.

At this moment, the team members had already taken up their respective duties and had started to act.

Some were responsible for taking care of the wounded, while others took out a specially made bag, carefully collecting the insect corpses.

Sybil and Kelson had already set off first, retracing the original route.

The rest of the group immediately followed suit, entering the passage explored by the other small team.

A different scene presented itself here.

Meandering downward to reach the bottom, the stone door that blocked the path at the end had been opened.

Unfortunately, before they could enter, an unpleasant odor already assailed the senses.

And after crossing the stone door, what they saw was even more unexpected.

This space was two to three times bigger than the previous hall they had seen.

Not only in area but also in height.

Because this place was essentially a giant sunken basin.

At this moment, everyone was standing on a ledge encircling the basin, below their feet was a dark green liquid with virtually zero visibility at a glance.

An indescribable stench hit their faces, almost tangible, assailing everyone’s senses.

Sybil and Kelson, who had arrived first, were now at the corner of this ledge.

There lay a corpse, half of its body already extending beyond the edge of the platform.

Judging by the attire, it was one of the members of the remaining team.

At this point, Kelson had already turned the body over, and to everyone’s surprise, not only did the surface of the corpse exhibit an enigmatic pale glow, but even the facial expression looked relaxed and natural, as if completely unaware of the pain of death.

But that wasn’t the most striking part; from this angle, it was clear that the corpse’s face and limbs were covered with dense feathers.

The feathers, along with Kelson’s movements, fell to the ground like snowflakes.

This…

Sybil bent down to pick up a feather and compared it with the fine ones from Montes.

They were obviously very similar, and if there had to be a difference noted, perhaps it was that the feathers on the corpse were a bit longer and seemed not as dull in color.

“There are two more people.”

Sybil raised her head and said to Kelson.

“Hmm.”

The latter nodded, leaning out to look into the pool below.

Not far from the corner, one could barely make out two clumps of feathers floating on the viscous, decayed matter.

It was obvious the remaining two met the same fate as this one, their bodies even thrown down after death.

Whoosh!

Amidst the rush of wind, Kelson’s body was lifted again, this time he floated straight toward the center of the basin.

Without hesitation, Electric Snakes converged on him, and in a blink of an eye, they emitted a glow even more dazzling than before.

The next moment, amid deafening roars, a Lightning Jungle descended from the sky, indiscriminately blanketing every area of the pool.

Under the ravage of lightning, the surface of the water, originally without a ripple, immediately surged tumultuously as chunks of dark green, viscous liquid were blasted into the air.

The choking stench instantly intensified tenfold, and even a layer of strangely colored mist seemed to rise.

For an instant, Fu Qian remembered the legend of setting off fireworks in a cesspit.

Unfortunately, after the display of divine might, the pool quickly returned to silence, and no particular entity emerged.

“Everyone together, retreat to the entrance of the entire ruin.”

Having returned on the wind, Kelson, showing not a hint of disappointment, immediately began issuing orders to everyone.

“Remember to stay alert and guard against letting anything out.”

“Clearly, there is something inside that holds hostility towards us, and it has considerable strength.”

“That means you can no longer carry out your task of exploring separately.”

Despite his negating words, his tone remained calm.

“You should take the wounded to the entrance and arrange for their evacuation and treatment.”

“Also… you stay.”

As the others turned to walk away, cooperatively, Kelson extended his hand, pointing at Fu Qian.

“You’ll continue to explore with me and Sybil.”

“Why?”

Fu Qian, puzzled by his special treatment, raised the question.

“Because I don’t trust you.”

Kelson’s reply was quite honest.

“So having you guard the door with them isn’t a good idea, you need to act with us.”

“I thought I had already been cleared of suspicion.”

Fu Qian pointed at the body around the corner.

His point was clear, he definitely wasn’t at the scene when this small squad was attacked.

Of course, Fu Qian’s response was not truly to defend himself.

He just found this special state of dialogue quite interesting and wanted to see how Kelson would react.

“There are many kinds of suspicion.”

Kelson responded unhurriedly to his comment, clearly not easily swayed.

“Alright then!”

Fu Qian responded with a cheery agreement, and questioned no further.

His original plan was to explore the ruin on his own after leaving the group.

Little did he expect that these two would insist on making him take the lead, so he accepted for the moment with good humor.

…

“How much of the underground ruin remains unexplored?”

Soon the others had left in accordance with the orders, leaving only Kelson, Sybil, and Fu Qian above the pool.

And Kelson, twice coming up empty-handed, turned his head to ask Sybil.

“That’s a stupid question with no reason!”

Unexpectedly, Sybil just huffed and gave a sharply worded response.

“How would I know how much is left if it hasn’t been explored?”

Indeed, a sharp retort, and logically sound, too.

Also, she seemed to have turned irritable again.

Reflecting on this, Fu Qian looked toward Kelson, expecting to see how he would react.

“No, you do know…”

Unexpectedly, the next moment came Kelson’s voice, brimming with killing intent.

“Because I want to know.”
