Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 443: 443

Having a distinctive personality is a good thing, but being too distinctive makes you an easy target for a beating.

At this moment, Fu Qian’s unabashedly incendiary behavior left the audience agape and speechless.

Although most people only knew this newcomer’s name, Fu Qian’s words and actions were completely at odds with what they had imagined.

To say nothing else, his personality was downright nasty.

Could it be that Siren’s people simply couldn’t stand his personality, and that’s why they got rid of him?

Although it seemed unlikely, many couldn’t help but entertain the thought.

“Clueless fool!”

Under the watchful eyes of all, the leather-clad man was obviously unable to save face.

He had thought that this guy was a complete novice who knew nothing, intending to coax and intimidate some information out of him, but didn’t expect Fu Qian to be so impervious to persuasion.

“As a senior, I think it’s necessary to teach you some lessons about surviving in the wasteland.”

The leather-clad man was clearly no saint either, and as he spoke, a shiny knuckleduster appeared in his hand.

Far from concealing it, he even deliberately flaunted it in front of Fu Qian, followed by a sinister smile.

It was obvious that this man was well-versed in the art of brawl, and he came fully equipped.

Unfortunately, the next moment, the dark barrel of a gun was pointed at him.

…

Never in their wildest dreams had the audience expected Fu Qian to pull a gun out in such a place; the sudden escalation of the conflict set off a large reaction. They backed away, holding their drinks, making room for the two men.

“Lesson one, bluffing doesn’t work on veterans.”

The leather-clad man scoffed at Fu Qian’s move, looking quite disdainful.

“I bet you don’t dare—”

Click!

Before he could finish, Fu Qian pulled the trigger.

In that instant, the leather-clad man displayed unbelievable agility, darting to one side almost reflexively.

Clearly, while he was outwardly scornful, he had been keeping a close eye on Fu Qian’s movements to react in time.

Unfortunately, he realized a moment later that no flash had come from the gun’s muzzle, and his face turned extremely ugly.

“No—”

Fu Qian withdrew his hand and leisurely blew on the gun barrel.

“You didn’t dare to bet.”

…

The place fell silent, and the leather-clad man’s face had turned completely the color of liver.

If before it was a matter of pride, wanting to teach this ignorant youngster a lesson, now he was genuinely filled with murderous intent.

The experienced crowd around them could sense the change in the air, and the space given to the two men grew even larger.

“Felix, you know the consequences of fighting here!”

Just as the situation seemed to become unmanageable, Nora’s cold voice interjected from the side.

From the moment the leather-clad man had stepped forward, she hadn’t moved from her spot, indicating she wasn’t afraid of him.

Of course, she hadn’t interfered with the preceding conflict either, presumably thinking that it wasn’t unreasonable to teach this obnoxious young man a lesson.

It was only now, seeing that Felix had truly become murderous, that she finally spoke up.

…

Nora’s words seemed to have had some effect.

At the mention of consequences, the enraged Felix clearly hesitated for a moment, his surging murderous aura faltering.

“Are you trying to protect this kid?”

But for Felix to swallow his pride so easily was obviously difficult; he turned his wrath towards Nora the next moment.

“You’re overthinking it. I have no interest in protecting anyone; just a casual reminder, that’s all.”

Nora looked too uninterested to bother with a prolonged exchange and turned to glance at Fu Qian.

At this very moment, the guy was actually seriously fiddling with his handgun, paying no mind to the deadly threat before him.

It’s rare to see someone so oblivious to their own demise.

“Now that you’ve been warned, carry on.”

Nora didn’t say much, simply dropping a line and standing up to leave.

…

Nora left so decisively that Felix was left hanging again, his face alternating between red and white.

This person was clearly in a bad mood, with no interest in giving Felix an easy way out.

But now that his initial rage had subsided, Felix started to reconsider the consequences of killing someone here and began to have second thoughts.

Critical was the fact that the guy opposite him was earnestly fiddling with his weapon, not even glancing at Felix.

Such a dismissive attitude, if Felix made harsh threats and then just left, it would really look cowardly.

“Alright.”

In the midst of the awkwardness, a resonant voice came from the direction of the bar.

The speaker was an older man with pronounced crow’s feet and neatly trimmed salt-and-pepper hair, dressed in impeccably tidy clothes.

“Don’t disturb everyone’s rare relaxation time.”

This man’s voice wasn’t very loud, but it was exceptionally clear, with an inexplicable authority that made one unconsciously want to comply.

“Tieer!”

Felix clearly recognized him.

“Since you said so…”

The next moment, he huffed, acting as if he was giving Tieer a bit of face, and turned around to leave.

An instinctual intuition made Felix deliberately vague in his parting words, avoiding those common phrases like, “I’ll let this little guy off for now.”

Because he had a sneaking suspicion that if he said that, the seated young man might very likely respond with something like, “No need to let up, just fight to the death.”

That would undoubtedly make for a very stiff scene.

…

Felix’s dejected departure brought an unexpected show to an abrupt end.

It was clear that the onlookers were quite disappointed.

But Tieer, who had the last word, seemed to hold considerable esteem here, and no one approached him with complaints.

At this point, Fu Qian also finally finished tinkering with his weapon.

The empty chamber in the cylinder wasn’t something he hastily created.

After initially discovering that his gun blast had shattered a skull, he had not filled that chamber, instead leaving it empty on purpose.

This was a method he had learned from cowboys, because old-fashioned revolvers lacked a safety, and if the gun were fully loaded, an accidental discharge could easily send a bullet through one’s thigh.

If luck was particularly bad and it hit a more vital spot, the tragedy would be even greater.

Perhaps it wasn’t a tragedy, as the chances of survival might actually be higher?

“Quite a nice weapon!”

At that moment, a shadow fell across Fu Qian, and it was Old Master Tieer who had finished his drink and sat down, now examining the gun in Fu Qian’s hand.

“You flatter me.”

Fu Qian nodded in acknowledgment, understanding why Tieer might say this.

Because firearms were very special in this world.

Their manufacture and usage were under the extremely strict control of the Night Watchmen.

Aside from a few authorized organizations, private manufacturing was a serious crime, which made the prices prohibitively expensive.

It was said that many people had protested in the early days, arguing that this left ordinary people even more powerless against the Transcendents, but the Night Watchmen were unmoved and implemented the policy with almost iron-fisted determination.

“Thanks for intervening just now.”

As he pondered, Fu Qian took the opportunity to thank Tieer for his earlier intervention.

“There’s no need for that.”

Tieer, however, waved his hand with an indifferent expression, looking at Fu Qian’s face.

“I was merely preventing Felix from committing suicide.”
