Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 440: Chapter 440 Wasteland Part (Two)_1

This place is bigger than I imagined.

After tidying up briefly, Fu Qian followed the two men out of his dwelling and found himself in the midst of a vast steel and concrete jungle.

Buildings of various shapes, crooked streets; the planning seemed quite chaotic.

Under the dim morning light, not even a single tree could be seen.

If everyone living here were Transcendents, it could only mean that there were many people striving to get ahead.

At that moment, within this chaotic human stronghold, a towering building stabbed into the sky, stretching wantonly and looking down upon the teeming masses, forming a sharp contrast with its surroundings.

Only an organization with considerable strength could erect such a colossal structure in a place like this.

Fu Qian thought as he looked around.

This could also explain why the posture of the two gentlemen in front was so lofty, as their destination was that very place.

Then the question arose, what purpose would such an organization have to seek the help of idle Transcendents for exploration?

After much thought, apart from being cannon fodder, there seemed to be very little possibility.

This was probably why the two of them looked somewhat surprised when they saw him bouncing around and very much alive.

In their expectations, it wouldn’t have been a surprise at all if something had happened to him.

Of course, these were not the main points. What Fu Qian truly cared about was the mention of “going down” for exploration.

It’s well-known that his current mission target was quite specific—the Secret Angel Dungeon.

Putting aside how secretive it was for now, as the name ‘dungeon’ suggests, it should be located underground.

If the previous exploration was indeed the target area, then a lot of effort would have been saved.

…

Escorted by the two men, one in front and one behind, it didn’t take long for Fu Qian to arrive at the base of that colossal building.

Standing there and looking up, a huge trident symbol was strikingly visible.

Black with gold trim, it shared a certain resemblance to the overall style of the building.

Siren Group—the mark was familiar to Fu Qian.

It was one of the largest conglomerates in the world, controlling many resources, with business almost all over the globe.

It made sense for such a behemoth to appear in the wasteland.

Fu Qian thought for a moment, and then he promptly pulled out a mask and put it on his face.

“What are you doing?”

His odd behavior obviously caught the attention of the two men, with the shorter one immediately asking in a wary tone.

Not too shabby!

Fu Qian, however, paid no attention to him and used the glass curtain wall in front of him as a mirror to check his reflection.

A heavy black coat, paired with a silver-white mask, and the wooden expression on it, had an inexplicably harmonious feel.

At the same time, with the mask on, he could feel his presence was no different from that of an ordinary person.

Even though, due to their lack of strength, whether he wore the mask or not, they wouldn’t be able to tell that he was a Demigod.

But given the strength of the Siren Group, it was improbable that there were no powerful figures stationed in such a place.

Now he was about to enter their base; if it was discovered that someone who the Group had brought in as cannon fodder was actually a Demigod, it was hard to predict the reaction this would provoke.

“Keep a low profile, it’s for your own good,” Fu Qian casually replied to the question the next moment.

This wasn’t bluster; after all, if the two men were determined to prevent him from entering this way, then for the sake of avoiding trouble, Fu Qian would have to consider the necessity of knocking them out and proceeding on his own.

Regrettably, the two men didn’t seem to appreciate this, and upon hearing Fu Qian’s explanation, their veins visibly bulged with annoyance.

Obviously, they were not accustomed to the tone Fu Qian was using at the moment.

However, after some intense emotion, Gary, the shorter one referred to by his colleague, displayed commendable composure.

“Leave your weapons behind,” he finally said, choosing not to escalate the situation but approaching it from another angle.

It was apparent that though they wore an air of superiority, they were but nameless pawns within the Siren Group and didn’t really want to start a conflict right there.

Fu Qian naturally had no objections and handed over the pistol very crisply.

Gary took the pistol, glared at him, and left alone to report to someone.

After a while, Gary returned, asked his colleague to stay outside, verified Fu Qian’s identity, and then led him inside.

…

If this place also followed the rule that the higher the floor, the higher the status, then undoubtedly, the importance of this incident wasn’t enough.

As he stepped out of the elevator, Fu Qian silently thought to himself.

However, at the middle tier of the building, the two got off the elevator, passed through layers of security doors, and finally arrived at a room.

The room was quite spacious and currently there was only one person in it, sitting with their back to the door, leisurely looking out the window without any reaction to the entrance of the two.

This aura was on par with Chief Yuan!

Fu Qian felt impressed and was fairly certain there was no need to fight his way out.

The aura of the person before him was high, but it was only of the Middle Tier; even if he took off his mask and restrained himself a bit, the man wouldn’t be able to see anything.

A few breaths later, that person finally turned around, sized up Fu Qian from head to toe, and his gaze settled on Fu Qian’s face.

“Thank you for coming, I am Gerard. Your mask is quite interesting, may I take a look?”

“No.”

In response to Gerard’s polite request, Fu Qian’s refusal was equally crisp.

In the next moment, he took off his mask to reveal his face for five seconds, then put it back on.

What he said was euphemistic; he merely wanted to reconfirm that Fu Qian was indeed himself.

Fu Qian had no interest in actually handing over his mask for study.

“Alright, I understand that everyone has items they do not wish to share.”

Facing such a direct and efficient rejection, Gerard was clearly a bit stunned.

“Can you describe what happened after you went back yesterday?”

After adjusting his emotions slightly, Gerard changed the subject.

“I don’t know.”

Fu Qian still shook his head.

Hm?

This not only made Gary frown in anger, but Gerard also narrowed his eyes.

“Mr. Fu, I hope you value our courtesy.”

“I understand, but unfortunately, I really don’t know.”

Fu Qian pointed to his own head.

“I clearly suffered a mental influence, and the memories of what happened after I went back are completely lost.”

“So that’s how it is…”

Gerard’s brows furrowed, but before he could say anything, Fu Qian asked his own question.

“Actually, that’s why I’m here. I want to know, how did the others die?”

“Suicide, various forms of suicide,” Gerard said, glancing at Gary as he spoke.

“We initially judged it to be some sort of mental influence, so your experience does not surprise me.”

“Of course, it seems you were lucky and were not led to take that final step.”

It seemed for the moment that Gerard accepted Fu Qian’s explanation.

“I hope you can bring that luck into today’s exploration.”

The man even offered words of encouragement with a slight smile.

Unfortunately, the highly anticipated Fu Qian just waved his hand.

“Sorry, I’m not planning to participate in the subsequent exploration.”
